tracer rounds are to "trace" the path of the bullet. the millitary doesnt like ud guessing if we are shooting in the right space, more accuracy, less casualities for the good ghuys. think of it as a laser scope, that can kill you... that isnt a laser.

Good thing those aren't gatling guns. We stopped using those in ww1. Gatling guns are hand cranked. What you see in this video is a mix of miniguns(vehicle mounted, man operated) and chainguns(hard mounted). It's true that every 5th round is a tracer otherwise you would have quite a hard time cleaning that weapon.

Tracers are those little flare type things see see flying out with the bullets. They allow you to easily see where your bullet stream is heading.

tracers are bullets with the tip composed of basicly a match, the usual setting it 7 normal bullets behind a tracer, so if it looks like a laser beam, imagine how many bullets you dont see behind those tracers. =0
