This is probably the gayest thing I've ever seen. Classical beast, but yeah.... He should stick to it. And the people laughing while he was half-valving and growling? WTF?
I saw the title and I thought "I didn't think he played jazz!" this confirms it...too bad. Awesome player though I wish I could do half the stuff he does.
this guy is playing at our jazz festival at Newberry College with us in SC!!! We rehearsed with him last night and it was so awesome! This man has serious talent!
Hey I was there too! I was the solo trumpet in the All-State Jazz band. Our conductor was Jim Ketch... Vizzutti was cool but we only heard the first song with the Flugel before our student band had to leave for lunch.
you just made yourself look like a fucking idiot... C4 is middle C. this is because there are 8 keys that are a C on a piano, and its called middle C because its the fourth one, in the middle. dont mislead people and give them wrong information if your not sure. you could screw up like you just did and then screw them over in turn.
lol dude music is music... it doesn't change. middle c is middle c! music theory is music theory! it isn't relative and it doesn't change with the instrument!
Middle c for a trumpet should be a B flat 5 on a piano, if I figured it right. So yes it does change mogekyou. Different instruments are usually in different keys.
I think this solo is great, he starts with something that ties into the song, then does something that doesn't fit that well into the song, but it doesn't matter because their is no chord backing, and then he finishes with something that fits into the song again for the end.
the middle part is good technically but doesn't have to fit with the song because of no backing which is fine. And i was meant to say 'there' instead of 'their' in the previous comment.
I saw Allen Vizzutti in Manchester about five or six years ago, in a jazz and a "classical" music setting and I have to say it was the most enthralling performance I have ever witnessed. Okay, have you ever played out of one of his books? Obviously not. The stuff he does is crazy hard, and about 2 steps above arcans. Even my trumpet teacher was awed by how hard it was. Come back when you actually know what you are talking about.
Pretty sure I've seen him play very different solos on the same tune more than once. He is basically outlining the chords but when you are playing that speed it's a little hard to play melodiously. Pretty sure he can play any style, he just chooses to show his virtuosity at concerts because that is exactly what most people pay for. I'm not saying he is a jazz player, or classical player. He's in a category of his own.
"it really shouldn't be criticized", but if that's your opinion, okay. He is a composer though himself and has written a few pieces. But as to being a square, his audience didn't care and quite frankly, he's an awesome and accomplished player. MrDeride, if you could, please post a video showing us the true art of playing (non-sarcastically). My talents are nothing in comparison to his, Wynton Marsalis, nor Dizzy Galespie...so I have very little criticism.
everyone has their own style of playing... and for someone whose technique is on as much of a virtuoso level as Vizzuti's, it really shouldn't be criticized.

Having amazing technique... how does that make someone a "virtuoso," which, in my opinion is a really retarded label for someone who's SQUARE.
Another thing: not that him playing this straight is a "rude" thing to do, but I thought classical musicians/conductors always harped on people if they played any composition differently than the composer intended it to be played.
Lastly... IT'S BEBOP, IT'S DIZZY, DON'T PERFORM IT IF YOU CAN'T PLAY IT CORRECTLY!
since when does being a Square mean you can't be a virtuoso. I didn't say he could swing, but in the AREA of TECHNIQUE, he is undenyably a virtuoso. Listen to The Carnival of Venus (not venice) by vizuutti, its a perfect example.
Only a ignorant immature musican like yourself (if you even are one) would say something like that. You're just jealous because you can't play ANY of that. And second of all, I'm guessing you are one of those dick head trumpets who think that you know everything and can play higher and better than everyone you see or hear..well guess what faggot, Vizzutti will knock your playing in the dirt. You might as well give yourself a swift kick to the nugget pouch.
all i have to say is that he was tits when i saw him, whether you like the guy or not you can't deny he is technically a virtuoso. Musically, it's debatable because everyone has their own preferences, but the crowd seemed to enjoy him. I don't have video of this but he did a rendition of Over the Rainbow on flugel horn that probably is one of the most beautifully flugel ballads i've ever heard, tone-wise, phrasing, everything.
The visual stuff is great. I mean, I didn't even watch this the first time I saw this video, and I had to watch it again. Allen Vizzutti is flat-out amazing.
Vizutti has a really amazing jazz-classical fusion style. The Boss and Vizzutti are different players and approach the same piece in different ways - you can't compare them to each other as they have their own styles.
This is really more a classical show off but he pulls it off so who am i to say this is anything other than great. (p.s. this was with a symphony orchestra - not a jazz band!)
well actually, most trumpet players I have been around refer to their high notes in the high, double high, and triple high octaves because groups such as the International Trumpet Guild have given the notes those names. Sometimes you hear trumpet players say c1,c2,c3, etc but not as often than you hear high, double high, or triple high. (a double high C is an octave above the C above the staff)
I think Vizzutti is a quite good composer as well as player. His books of beginner/intermediate stuff like the dances for trumpet are really great for middle school and high schoolers.
