it was also about ideology rather than musicianship and bands like L7, Babes in Toyland, and Lunachicks particularly have been plagued ever since by being associated with something that they were never a part of . Riotgrrrl as an idea/movement/whatever, was cute and kitschy but riotgrrrl bands overwhelmingly sucked. What's referred to as riotgrrrl nowadays anyway is just a retrospective labeling campaign because the whole 'movement' was DIY and homegrown. It's for lazy writers.

The thing is that you can't scream like Kat and sing at the same time. A lot of vocalists are great at soulful singing. Others can mix singing with screaming. But Kat does one thing to the max and does it better than anyone else. She is a screamer - the best I've ever heard. A person has to decide which way to go with this screaming vs singing thing.
