  • Great video

  • First of all...someone please bring back neon signage as trendy. Secondly - bring back Van de Kamp's bakery and that massive sign.

  • This is wonderful.

    Thanks for sharing.

See you at Vintage Los Angeles on Facebook.

  • Mind blowing. The film quality is cinematic, you can feel Wilshire at night... in its heyday!

I had a bit of trouble identifying it - they're traveling at about 25mph west on Wilshire. The Mutual of Omaha building gave me a clue as to where on Wilshire, the building is on La Brea... and at 2:39 you can see on your left, the El Rey Theater. I'm amazed at the many department stores and financial institutions that lined the streets. Must of been really pedestrian heavy then, very bustling.

  • Fabulous peek at the old Four Star theater marqee! Wish it were still there -- sigh...

  • A very clean copy. Hard to believe that such an old piece of film was preserved in this condition. Well done!!

  • Whoever made this film did a good job of keeping the camera from bumping about (it's much smoother than other night view films) and the blue tint really adds a distinctive mood to it. Nice ending too, the way the lights and other traffic recede into the far background.

  • sweet!

  • The wonderful movie marquee just stole my heart.

  • Were these clips used as background footage for driving scenes on TV shows and in films?

  • You can see more vides from this era and thousands of photos on a facebook group called : VINTAGE LOS ANGELES

    See you there!
