Köstlinger could have made a really good career if he had not returned to Salzburg... I heard him a lot at the Salzburger Landestheater when I was a child.
Well, he returned to Salzburg (as far as I know, even Bergman regarded that as a huge mistake) and kept on singing at the Salzburger Landestheater... I remember fx seeing him as the witch in "Hänsel und Gretel" when I was three and as Basilio in "Figaro". I think he also did Turandot's father.
He was/is(?) married to a Swedish woman and their daughter Maria Köstlinger is a well-known actress in Austria. She is married to the famous Austrian actor Karl-Heinz Hackl.
Thank you for the upload!! I grew up with this, and it's what made me love and start my opera education :)

nice voice, I assume a singer is young and will get even better with time.

good German=), I am not much older right now,
my students might benefit if they watch this video here in US. It's pretty hard to find someone who speaks a good German here.

LilliVanessi,
I have for many years wondered what happened to Josef Köstlinger. Do you know?
