Dorset and Somerset fire service said it had seen a sharp increase in lantern fires in the past year. Farmers say cows suffer stomach damage from eating the wire of fallen lanterns.

Flying lanterns can't cause forest fires. They keep floating up until the flame runs out, and then they fall. Once they land, they're biodegradable, so you never find them after the ceremonies.

Never heard of a sky lantern starting a forest fire, not ever.

um there in a balloon and heat rizes so if you ever see one falling get it on camera and post here I have never ever seen one come down

These things look absolutely lethal...flying incendiary devices.... imagine them coming down near oil or gas storage or forested areas or simply on peoples homes.

I suppose I'll be called a killjoy for saying these things are a real hazard...personally I hope that if they make it to the UK they're banned pretty damned quick.

Someone over here must be releasing hundreds of these so called lanterns every week without being seen. And all over the world. They must of spent a bomb on them and enabled them to vanish and reappear in different places. And also travel fast and change directions.

Sky lanterns would stay in a formation and move in orders beside each other like a UFO would. So anyone who says that UFO are mistaken for sky lantern is an idiot.
