I was a teenager and worked in this movie as background in the mall scene ah great fun and memories to see this and me at that age ! Helen and Christian were so cool.
Funny how they go from the Sunrise mall then the parking garage. The parking garage is actually accoss the city in downtown Corpus. That is the Bank of America parking garage. The building in the background at 4:50-4:56 is the Bayfront Plaza Hotel, it's still open to this day and is now a Historical Landmark building. =D
I visited this mall a few weeks ago. It's the Staples Mall in Corpus Cristi TX. It really went to hell. There's only like 3 stores open and they were closing down. I feel special for visiting an obscure filming location. Also, the day I went, they had an Elvis Impersinator for live entertainment.
@JulioCHernandez Padre Staples was made before Sunrise. Sunrise mall was made roughly in the early 80's as the new mall. It was the place to be while Padre staples was the Shit mall. But now N days Padre staples has had some SERIOUS Modern Renovations with making the origional main entrance into an outdoor strip section and a more modern entrance for the brand new food court. They renamed it "La Palmera". While sunrise is now the run down one with 80% shops closed. But still nice to visitattimes
that parking garage wasnt at that mall. that mall didnt have a parking garage connected to the building. the parking garage used was in the downtown area. way across town.
zombieumbrella you should make movies if you noticed that.
I've noticed that for the last 20 years ...the bit you mention coupled with the editing and the fact that it's all shown without any dialogue is genius...the zoom shot from the perspective of the 2 cops on the upper level down to Peter Coyote's ending...it's all so underrated...sad that a movie today wouldn't put so much thought into camera movement, score...etc..the people who made this film really cared to make it as well as theycould
I was always curious about the music in this part of the film about 19 seconds to about 1 minute and 20 seconds. The guitar riff 45 seconds in I really liked. I always thought it was flattering for this part of the film that they used such savvy music for that era since Billy Idol and Steve Stephens really knew how to get down in the 80s.
25 years later and this mall is like a morgue. Gone are Joske's, Benjamins, Aladdin's Castle, the American Chocolate, Chip Cookie Company, Games People Play, The Record Bar, Video Concepts, and scores of other retailers. They stopped running the fountains and escalators to cut down on expenses. The mall has really been hit hard, just like the guy who gets racked by Billie Jean.
Who remembers the Diamond Jim's by the Frost Bros.?
