coyotes are a problem ANYWHERE... i live in rural Ohio, and one night i was out having a cigarette at about 2am, and listened as a coyote ripped a neighbor's dog to shreds.. dog was out on a leash; no chance :( it happened about 600 meters from my porch; i was unable to shoot because of trees and another neighbor's house in between.. but i heard the whole thing (lasted about 2 minutes), and saw what was left the next day :( fuck coyotes; they are scavengers and a problem ANYWHERE rural
@311paris I'm in AL too. We need to get some hunting regs changed so that we can hunt Coyotes and feral hogs(aka pests) at night w/ Night Vision and Suppressed (hearing safe) Rifles. Currently, the game wardens act like everyone's a potential deer poacher. Any help in opening their eyes is appreciated.
i have a 5mW 850 nm laser but im unsure what kinf of battery to hook it up to since i cannot haul around a power supply all the time, also i need to wire an on/off switch to it can anyone help?
Why woulkd you want to shoot a Coyote. Well here is a few answers for you dumb ass. Coyotes kill your cat, dog, child, livestock, and even humans. I live out West and the damn things are a 100% anoyance. So if anyone sees a nasty furry coyote put a slug in it. Same goes for those horse and cow leg breaking pararie dogs. We have huge p dog shoots out west come out and help us clean up the over breading mess.
where in the west do you live? ive lived in a few different parts of montana and i agree with you on the coyotes being a pest, and shooting gophers is just plain ol fun, they destroy crops and tear up yards, but ive never heard of a horse or cow breaking a leg in a hole.
...not to mention situations where your child is standing in an open garage and a coyote is comfortable being in your front yard, less than a hundred feet away...in the midwest, anyway, coyotes number as cockroaches in New York City...
@todbig you get too many P dogs when you kill off all their predators... I shoot the coyotes with a pellet gun. That seems to deter them without killing them. But they still keep the Prairie dogs few and far between. They even have a go at a young hog once and a while, but usually lose that battle...
He's using a gen III d-740. I highly recommend this scope or a d-760 which is a fixed 6x scope. You can get them from Victor at tacticalnight vision or Michael at optics hq. Both are great to deal with and you get a quality product. You'll need a good IR illuminator for the nights without good ambient light.
Ive had a lot of fun here in Australia with my rifle and the laser on it. Line up an emu and hit with the laser. They jump when they see it flash past their eyes. lol. Seeing an Emu jump is quite humerus
The laser is a quick eye detector when scanning for coyotes in darker conditions. The standard IR light used in Night vision burns batteries too fast compair to lasers. Cost effective and better performance period. No ranging laser is being used in this application, but a laser range finder is used prior to calling in coyotes to get property ranging by hitting trees bushes etc....to get an estimated range. It's hard to range a coyote while running full blast at you when calling,
Laser test on the coyotes eyes"eye flash" at different yardages for laser scanning on darker nights scanning for coyotes at farther distances with IR lasers while calling coyotes. It's just more advanced ways in spotting coyotes quicker by getting set up for running coyotes in to your set up. The faster you can spot a coyote, the faster you can set up for them to get a better shot with out spooking them at close distances. Any more questions thehiddenpart?
mj20003, I'm a rancher with cattle. If you don't know...coyotes eat baby calves during the spring. Enough said, This one was lucky because of research purposes.
@gburlin I have worked for ranchers protecting the caves at night. We used IR Chem Light sticks to mark ranges, and we marked a few caves with IR strobes and placed them in a protective cage made of deer fencing.
@mj20003 1.) they are the only wild animal who's population has increased with the encroachment of humans (population control). 2.) they feed on an alarming number of house pets every year. 3.) they attack, and have even killed a two or three, humans (and i'm not talking about rabid coyote). 4.) they kill domestic beef and sheep in relatively large numbers. / disclosure: i'm against sport hunting. for the safety of my family and my animals i have no problem making an exception for coyote.
a6a6, Try ebay, I got my 3rd gen pvs-7 goggles for $1400.00. That's cheap compair to $2500.00. Ebay would be the best bet finding 3rd gen scopes that are not alfa select. Alfa select are the best to buy and cost the most. I only chose alfa because of video purposes"less blimishes in scope". happy shopping. type in D-740 night scope in ebay and start shopping.
could you tell me what the yardage was when you lasered him,. im thinking of buying a night vision scope or monocular but am unsure of the actual range of effectiveness...
ide like to find the predator then mark i with laser and finallhy shoot with reguklar scoped rifle... unless i just buy a rifle scope and use then but otherwise ill be using the monocular.... so, what was the range and did u use low moon light or infer red.. ???
The dog was lazered at 200 yards at the first time, then 500 yards the second. If you wanna get good clarity, you better save some money. This scope ran me about $4000.00. D-740 alfa select 3rd Gen scope. 1st and second gens just don't cut it. I've tried them all. 10 years of experience hunting with night vision. If your gonna play, your gonna pay bud.
You were obviously a waste of a teachers time cause you never learned to read. It said at the beginning that it was not shot with ammo but with a laser.
this is a day in camera green mode :)

you're acting as the "spotter" part of a sniper, giving the shooter realtime information about distance, did i get it right?
My initial question has been made since i thought it was some new "ecomental-friendly coyote control"..
