These are the guys who respond to hostage chrisis's and other situations that require a quick response assault team. They spent there lives training and sacirficing everything to try to do some good. I am sure before there deaths they had done many great things. I hope there is a god to take them in.

    SEMPER FI.

  • I remember when that happened. I was a Marine for 8 years, and actually that happens more than you think.

  • My youngest son wants to lead Marines as an officer. I'm scared but also very proud of him. Rest easy Marines.

  • I remember that day. I was part of hmm 166. sad...

  • Ok, that was a awesome memorial!

  • REST IN PEACE.

    SEMPER FI.

  • very moving.

  • stupid pilot..they think that only people with college degrees can fly.well, here's what ya get..a degree in psychology really helped him "land"!

  • Fuck you!! you fucking dick. Have you no respect.

  • wow i didn't know that a person could sink so low. many people died that day and you have the down right disrespect to mock the pilot!?! i hope that you were not raised by humans because if so, they did a piss poor job of teaching you respect. i hope that one day you truly see the audacity of the words you wrote.

  • As rude as you sound, you speak the truth. RIP to him though and many other "stupid" of us who died.... We are all stupid at times.

  • People just don't know what we do every day to protect their freedom. Once A Marine, Always A Marine, You will never be forgoten, Semper FI my brothers!!!!!!

"It is the soldier, not the reporter, Who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, Who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, Who salutes the flag, Who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protestor to burn the flag." Father Denis Edward O'Brien/USMC

  • RIP MARINES

  • sorry-just saw the date. my d.i (force recon) burned our bodies that, day in boot. he was pissed off- he served in the gulf war with some of those marines.

    fuck!

    rest in peace, brothers

  • this was around dec of 1999, right?

  • I was there that day on helo 3. One of the Dragons/trailer. It definately was a shitty day. I think about this all the time. The shitty part was the new idea that someone came up with of not putting our gear on until we reached a safe hover. I almost dropped my m-203 out of the hell hole the second time thru the repeat SOC quals. If the hm-166 would utilize a few more feet of a 60 ft fast rope. I recall a time on a goplat not even using the rope because they were too low.

    Semper fi.

  • damn it.. That's just a shame. I bet that pilot is a fucking drunk zombie by now, unless he's somewhere at psychiatric clinic.. What a shame and huge loss... My very deepest sympathy.

  • So this is what this video was, i saw this a while back and thought it was just some dumb navy operation gone bad...

Pilot was a fucking idiot if this was supposed to be a fast rope insertion...

  • Way back in the very late 80s when 1st got the green light for GOPLAT and MIO which all fell under the heading MSPF it was a real hard learning curve. Because back at that time, the individuals who were liaison were not the most forthcoming with a wealth of knowledge. For all involved in present-day OPS. It is not a factor, and I hope this is truly a rare occurrence. Their families have my deepest sympathy. Even this far down the road Semper Fi for ever

  • Shit thats horrible to watch, watching that Crew Chief (I think thats the correct title?) trying to climb out of the side door as the bird started to flip was horrible. It was not long after this that they started to introduce releaseable armour systems, because a lot of FR Marines died due to being dragged under by their armour. Terrible tradgedy.

  • man the wheel got stuck, were there any survivors .

  • Dang that sucks! Being former marine myself I can relate to how easy it is to forget how strong these machines are. We are around them so much that we forget about the "safety" Factor.

  • you moorons, if they were ready to absail down the rope why did it come in to land at an angle not even from above as if it was an emergency.

  • Because the pilot came in way to fast and steep. It was suppose to be a fast rope insertion, you can even see some ones legs comming out of the hell hole in the middle of the helicopters floor as it rolls into the ocean.

  • omg that made me cry omg how many ppl were in there

  • HOW WERE THEY GOING TO Fast rope from the hell hole when it landed on the deck

  • damn i would of never thought that safety net would be that strong. damn shame.

  • Damn that sucks. I didn't notice the wheel get caught up the first time I watched it.

  • Thanks Sweede for posting the facts relating to this terible crash. For those who may be interested there is a series of three vidieos posted by ei2232 with more fact from one of the surivors.I served in CH-46 squadrons during my eight years in the Corps.

    Semper fi

  • Sad movie, at the end, but how did the Seals manage to emerge with all that stuf on them????

  • i doubt they did considering there were no SEALs on board.

  • The SEALs was in the boats, not the chopper!

  • Actually the guys in the boats were SBU's.

  • Yes the drivers and crewmen, but the passengers was SEALs!

  • your right. you said you were there, who were you with. i was with A CO 1/4 at the time.

  • 1st Force Reconnaissance Company!

  • holy sh1t :/

  • that happen cuz the pilot got high

  • total Pilot error and the Crew chief wasnt doing his damn job either.

Im glad that more were not lost

the Gysgt that was killed was aircrew the word we got was he tried to help out as many as he could from the plane

No helo dunker will prepare you for that crash. To fast to low and then when the idiot at the controls felt he hit something he pulled power he should have just crashed it to the deck would have saved lives

He knew he was in trouble at the end as well.

    SSgt Powers

  • Semper Fi to all of them.

  • why

  • Semper Fi...

  • the movie made it seem more hilarious than it was..i didn't realize people actually died untill the end. then i felt bad for thinking that.

  • good you should have but i for give you

  • The pilot obviously came in too low.

    Duh!

  • nicely done

  • God Bless.

  • Why was the Chinook so close to the deck of the boat if they were going to fast rope?

  • It wasnt a chinook it was a CH-46 and they were getting ready to fast rope onto the flight deck, the pilot came in to low to hot and got caught, I hated him for a while for it but he survived and I can only imagine what he has to live with. It was a bad day for all of us, everyone is missed.

  • i too am an ex-jarhead, and i have to say that if they were fixing to to do a fastrope expiditiously out of the bird then either the fuckin pilot was an idiot or they had troubles. i have never seen a fastrope at ground zero!!

  • No margin for error with those damned things.

  • "God will be with you." So where was God when this happened? If it seems insensitive to ask that, it should seem even more insensitive for a loving god to allow that to happen. I certainly wouldn't have, and I'm just a human.

  • looked like the landing gear got caught on the side of the ship

  • Herre gud. Det var allt utom skickligt utav heli-piloten. Hade inte kunnat leva med att ha dödat en annan människa på ett sådant sätt om jag var han.

  • umm, did they drown? coudln't get out?

  • Correct!

  • Ive heard and read several different versions of this accident now.

  • Well Bro, this is the true one. I was there!

  • wtf. you can see that the pilot tryes to get out of the helicopter because you can see his hands. i think the pilot has survievd becaus he had a big window and they have got divers with protectingclothes against the cold water

  • This is very sad Vid I hope the families and buddies of these killed in the accident..can recuperate from this accident.. GB You all. .

Cross trainned sniper 29 palmas 92

    RLTW!!!!!

  • i was there, the water was really cold <3

  • Thanks for posting

  • Thank god the seals were there as the asfety swimmers.

  • Thats all their good for any way, Semper-FI!!!!!

  • Isn't there a survivor who was or is doing Ironman triathlons to raise money for the families of the fallen here? Come to think of it, is that person you Swede?

  • Don't know anything about the Ironman triathlons, but I can assure you it's not me!

  • I think it's a Captain. I saw an expose on him in the Hawaii Ironman.

  • His name is Butler, he used to be my plt commander, i was there this day, Baca was a good friend of mine and had just had a baby, this video still turns my stomach.

  • Mike Butler? A sgt with me in 1st force before he went "O" on us

Funnny shit .... 88-94 first force

  • taht is not funny

  • Yeah, Mike was on board, but the guy that you are thinking about was someone else. I can't remeber the PLTCMDR for 5th plt at that time. I think it was Capt K who does run triathlons and is out now.

  • It was Capt K (or Capt. America) I remember him doing runs with his armor on. I was one of the Trailers from Dragons at the time.

  • frightening to think about that guy in the side windows POV...did he make it?

  • Sad, very sad...

    Let god bless them all

    Semper Fi

  • Shit this is the story behind this vid, people are ALWAYS commenting on this like they were there or something.

  • sad

  • R.I.P

  • Heros. Each and Every One of them.

  • it didnt look so bad how did they died (drowned).

  • Yes.

  • yea ive seen this video alot, flying over water always made me think about this when i was 11th MEU(9 months in iraq... YAY MEU!)TRAP Force

  • God Bless

  • Rip Brothers. Semper Fi

  • RIP bros, Semper Fi

  • i was in plt 2004 hotel company. from oct.99 to jan 2000

D.I ssgt tomlinson (force recon), came in to the squad bay- while we polished our boots- pissed off as fuck! told us what had happened to his buddies. (at the time we didnt get much news (outside world- or in the corps) he burned our bodies. and pulled all the future grunts to the side- and beat our bodies.

    semper fi, ssgt tomlinson

  • I was in plt. 2001 during that time...I remember the Drill Instructor you are talkin' about!

  • you guys were honor platoon- segura is my buddy- he was one of your squad leaders. you had a hard core DI- DI SSGT Synavic, right?

  • OMG! Gunny Synavic(now 1st Sgt) was a major killer in OIF2

  • Damn, talk about tough luck. If the helicopters wheel didn't stick to the fence-thing it would probably have turned out just fine. :(

    RIP guys.

  • "due to heavy . . ." - fog (forgot to finish the sentence).

  • 1992 22 MEU (I think it was), we lost a helo and crew, I believe in the Adriatic Sea due to heavy.

I think it was 1993 (24 MEU?) we lost another helo and crew due to mechanical failure.

These accidents aren't that rare. I remember hearing that every deployment lost a helo - it was expected.

And this was in peace time.

    The sacrifices are many.

  • Sad shit

  • TRUELY SAD

  • RIP BROTHERS KEEP CHARGING.SEMPER FI
