He tires here due the throat rising. The throat must be relaxed/at rest for anyone to sing such an aria, especially a tenor. The upper throat is closed here which accounts for the sound at the top. There is potential here though. Good luck to him.

It is not possible to sing at an international level with a closed throat. The sound is a bit throaty, but then, you can find that with Kaufmann or Wunderlich as well.

@Pollione88 Incorrect. Check out "The Audition." They pointed out the guy from Jersey as having amazing talent but issues with tension in his upper register. Those problems aren't fixed as of right now, but if I recall correctly, there was something about him and La Scala . . . even international-level singers have technique issues. Some more than others, but no one has none.

The version of his singing this at Covent Garden is better in my opinion. It's funny what a year can do to a voice. In the other performance he just has more overall control... and ironically enough, he has more control lying down? Funny if you think about it. Regardless, such a pleasant voice to listen to. Lehtipuu sings the aria exquistely...agreed..I personally love Lehtipuu's Ferrando..but don't think we will ever be able to say that Trost doesn;t measure up...one of the ,or perhaps THE definitive Ferrando of our generation..

The way he throws away the "da (speme)", the g sharp, is not nice. "Unnnnn dolce (ristoro)" and the Glottis is typical German. It makes me angry, if a singer cannot study this. It's not so difficult, or?
