Ever since "Pirates of the Carribean" came out I have seen several productions of G&S Pirates where I had to endure Jack Sparrow as the Pirate King. Ok, it's not clever any more - enough already. Johnny Depp is brilliant - the rest of you - come up with an original interpretation - pleaseeeeee!!!!

@MelficeSilesius - Perhaps... for a while. Until he is no longer current - which may happen sooner now than later. But no one does Capt.Jack like Johnny Depp. This guy is pretty good - better than most - so your point is well taken here. But the others I have seen have been poor and I'm not sure a bad imitation of Johnny Depp will be much of a draw.

This is a great performance, I just posted some old Gilbert & Sullivan 78 rpm records of the musical depicted here. I wish my high school class could have done this performance into a high school play production, it would have been awesome!!...Lloyd.

@lizilizi1 I never quite understood that. Jack Sparrow is sort of flighty, rather high strung,definintely chatty and Richards is stoic and grim.Would somebody xplain what parts of Richards personality he based the Sparrow character ?

OMG I saw this live and it was amazing! Opera Australia does the best G&S and Anthony was incredible as always with his spectacular Pirate King, and David Hobson makes me fall in love every time. The rest of the cast was amazing and you just want to go right back and watch it again. There were four encores for one song so it wasn't just me who loved it!
