I have the micro adjustment for the powder RCBS powder thrower. I agree that it isn't the best thing but, it makes finding the depth of the plunger in the charge cylinder much easier. i.e. 52gr of h4350 is at 435 on the micro adjustment. You can document that so the next time you spend less time looking for that sweet spot. The appropriate setting It may vary +/- 5-10 depending on powder compactoin and humidity and lot. I do suggest them for someone that works with a wide range of powders.

It can be. If you're using a full density charge it'll save you some case capacity so you're not going to bulge the case seating a bullet on a overly compressed charge.

i have a .270 wsm, would a drop tube be beneficial?
