i am doing the same thing to my geo metro... but i have a few questions like what did you get your turbo off of? what is a manual boost controller? and did you get get stronger parts for your engine so it can handle 6.5 psi and what psi do you think is best to run these engines at?
i started working on cars at 10 and took out my first trans at 13 mate lol.. ANYWAYS this is a very fine video.. im curious as to know how much boost its running?
Im only in auto 11 and plan on auto 12, What bouts the brakes power booster? Cause I know that some take low pressure from intake manifold. But now there high pressure. Just curious and would like to know.
@akon10136 Ford is decent? Are you serious? Your fucking with me right? Ive seen more Fords blow up, break down. sit in back yards, fall apart and lose races than anything dude. My buddy's cavalier with a fart can smoked my other friends 1995 gt 5.0L with bolt ons. Get real.
@RadOne83 The stang driver obviously couldnt handle the shift throw, because that is absolutely obsurd... Coming from a guy with a v8 BMW X5 that tore a 92' 5.0 up in every aspect.. They were slow, yes. I think you need to get real, Ford has come a long fucking way in the past 5 years. If its anyone, chevy deserves to be shit on, billions of $ from the fed and they still produce more lemons then gems. Seriously, what kind of a manufacture doesnt measure inconsistencies in parts?
Why do people talk shit. F all you morons that are watching this waiting to say some stupid. I admire this guy for taking the time to build something different. Hats off to you sir. Tell all the haters to bug off!
yea, i actually own one of these little punch bugs too. I have a '98 Chevy Metro Hatchback 3 cyl. Mine has bad rings in it, so Im about to pull the motor on it. Let me ask you a quick question. Would it be a hassle to try to pull the pistons from the bottom without removing the crank? Would the crank have to be removed as well? I hate to pull the motor, but if need be, I'll do it.
I know, suzuki made all flavors of this car. The turbo 1L had port fuel injection, not throttle body injection. It had a tiny RHB31/32 turbo. Mine was not turbo, I just needed to merge onto interstate safely :>)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
might as well have turbo'd ur moms vibrator while you were at it....it'd probably be a close race. this car is blasphemy. sorry. im sure you do good work and you seem to have a firm grasp of basic mechanics which is why i dont understand why you would boost a geo. im a volkswagen guy and i hate hondas but i'd much rather see a turbo civic then some whack geo turbo that still runs 16's
"firm grasp of basic mechanics" lol, more like extensive grasp. The reason I turbocharged the tiny 1L 3 cylinder is because this was a steeping stone to the next engine I am building now, a 16v 1.3 turbo motor. I also turbo d the geo because you never see a turbo geo, plain and simple. There are turbo hondas and VWs all over the place, it is quite played out. bottom line, when you can take a 1L and halve the 0-60 time and give most cars a run on their money, you have something nice
@southwest82 I'm just curious what engine are you using for the 1.3 turbo. Toyota makes a 1.3 turbo 4efte you can just swap that in and your good to go or are you custom building it. I'm probably going to turbo my stock engine with 167000miles to 5.5psi and use it until it blows then swap it for 4efte maybe. I just want something that stands outside the crowd like your turbo geo metro good job. Anyone can buy a Evo or subaru. It just feels better winning a race on something built.
you can buy a manafold from turbine tech that will let the exaust flow a little better... good going on the 365/222 cam and you probably got the +10 deg cam advance gear as well... 3 tech is some good stuff!
Hey awesome job! everything looks really good. I like how you cleaned up the manifold welds. look forward to other products you may have down the road.
lol! I just installed a 365/222 cam which dropped the 0-60 time even more. The irony is that I drove it 200 miles on the interstate yesterday and still got 41 mpg. It is nice to have a lot of go at my beck and call and still get great mpg when I stay off the boost,
Next step is to install a factory 5-speed, you'll be putting down nearly all the flywheel power to the wheels, best bang for the buck and it'll be a lot more fun to drive. My Metro is a 5-speed, I don't see how it would have enough power to move itself with an auto.
haha, the stock G10 with an auto is pretty miserable to drive. I am not going to convert this one to a manual, I have a 95 with a 5 speed that I am building up now.
Fair enough, i'd like to see how it's going. Mine i'm just getting it ready to get me to and from work this winter. I already welded up all the exhaust leaks, gave it a full tune up including advancing the timing so it runs smoother and idles a bit higher. All I have left is a new back window and i'm set.
The whole car is rusted out and probably not safe to drive, i'm sure a control arm will snap and the whole car will fall apart as i'm driving which is why I don't plan on driving on the highway, no faster than 55. It's just a winter beater to save gas and save my truck from collecting winter mileage and salt, truck needs a full tuneup.
I like 6.5, I would like to crank it up, but it is a good bit of work every time you have to redo the head gasket :>) With an o ringed block 15psi in not out of the question provided that proper fuel management is used, ie Megasquirt.
Well, the stock G10 3 banger has a 9.5:1 compression ratio, the T3(engines that came from the factory with turbo) has 8.5:1. What this means to me is that I can not run too much boost with FelPro gaskets, 10psi is sketchy and I cooked two playing around. 6.5-7.5 seems fine, still pulls like a demon. The only limiting factor is fueling, the stock system can only deliver enough fuel for 5-6psi of boost, so I was running boost lean and cooking the gaskets that way. 6.5+high compression = fun!
Hey, just checked your channel, my second metro looks just like yours! At least for now..... I have a 95 metro hatch with 3 cylinder 5 speed that I will be overhauling when I move to PA, I plan to have a LONG series of videos on that build.
No, have not taken it to the dyno, as for mpg change I have lost a little, due to keeping my foot into it, lol. The last tank I drove real conservative with minimal boost(only when getting to highway speed) and it seems to maintain 35+. The WORST I have gotten out of the car is 30. Think about that for a minute, a topped out turbo vehicle that you can drive like a nut and still get better mileage that 80% of the cars on the road. That is the beauty of boosting small engines.
Thats cool! lol yeah thats the beauty of small engines. The stock 3cyl metros are still up there with the prius in MPG. Amazing that a hybrid car cant shake off 10+ year old car when it comes to MPG.
Think Suzuki's thing was 'Think Small' or something like that.
So have you been buying used engines for each version, or are you just junking the car each time? Are you using the same manifold that yall had up on Facebook?
Same engine each time, i just had the head shaved to get the mating surface clean and smooth. I have a spare engine in case something lets loose, but that has not been an issue. This is a new manifold that I just made, the old one was for a Mitsu. TD04 turbo, the new manifold it set up for the Garrett T-25 flange. Plus, the old one looked bad, I did not do a good welding job, so I took my time with the new one and ground the welds down then hit the whole manifold with a stone grinder.
that is looking sweet! i have a couple of questions though, was was that whine when you revved it? that didn't sound normal, or at least it didn;t to me, lol! and what kind of piping did you use for the intercooler? also what kind of cam are you running? i am curious! lol.
I am not really sure what the whine was, the turbo had oil in it. Whatever it was, it is not there now. I am using the stock cam on this engine and the piping is 2 inch exhaust pipe welded to the various shapes and bends.
I can't stand ricers! I decide to spend the money on the engine where real power is made, not on wings and fart can "mufflers". Hope to put up a video of the performance, but I am going easy on the engine for the first couple hundred miles to allow a proper break in period.
