  • This Oasis bashing is stupid. They were paying homage to the video while putting their own spin on it. That's what art is. You take what already exists and you take it somewhere. Do you think the Kinks came up with all those hits in a vacuum? It's blues music by way of Muswell Hill. "Nothing is original."-- Jim Jarmusch

  • oasis banalised everything, they ruined british music, they had no art or originality, they just wanted to sell record. that's it!

  • CLASSIC!!!!

  • park white mother fucker after dark

  • Also I don't think Noel or Liam Gallagher would decide what the video is to be honest

  • accumulate material goods and someone else will enjoy these. Why not go for a tour of Earths goddies, and learn that nothing lasts for ever, we will all eventually arrive to The dead end street... `-<

  • Some of you kids need to do some research. Oasis made the song as a tribute to the kinks not to steal.

  • Yeaaa i love Kinks

  • another thing to add to the stolen list for oasis... "cold and frosy morning"- oasis stole to use in "dont go away" and they copied this video for "the importance of being idle" swtill love both bands though :)

  • lol I love good company slow music candle lights

  • Oasis ripped it off but it's the same as Tarantino with Italian movies - as long as they don't shit on the original it's tolerable imo (although the original will always rule!)

  • Kinks are so cool. Song & video are so brilliant ! Brilliant ! Brilliant ! Great stuff and it was done in 1966. Kinks forever.

  • It is true that the video and that of oasis they look alike but so well they do not want to accept that the version of oasis is the best

  • The last bits of this video reminded me of a sketch I saw, now I don't remember on what show, where these four blokes carry a coffin with another inside, and once in awhile, the one inside comes out and switches places with one of the four, as pedestrians are walking past wondering what the blazes all of this is about. May've been trigger happy tv...

  • @icygood101 or were there three men carrying the coffin lopsidedly? huh..

  • @icygood101

Oh, it's Monty Python!!I love that sketch :D

  • @xXgorillazboosh11Xx Yea, right! I need to watch some Python. That can't ever be a bad idea =P

  • Why do people slag off Oasis?! They hired a director for making the music video. Plus The Importance Of Being Idle is quite a different song than this (both songs are great in my opinion)

  • @akara86 People slag off Oasis because they made the same album seven times over a fourteen year period. They should have wrapped it up in 1995 after they released Morning Glory and done something else, like release a clothing line called Pretty Green or something.

  • @checkoutgirl what the fuck are you on about you slut? now im not much of an Oasis fan but i couldn't ignore this idiotic and unfounded comment. Oasis ranges from Britpop, Anthem rock, Indie, Psychedelic rock and Alternate. The reason for their mid decline in popularity was because they didn't write any other wonderwalls you cunt. Actually learn the history of bands before you start bad mouthing something or i'll rip your cock off and make you eat it.

  • @Jackonsinit Could I trouble you for a kiss please ? I'm a bit lonely. Sorry about my comment, I now realise that Oasis have a varied repertoire and are the best band ever. I like Anthem rock but I prefer Alternate. Alternate is probably my favourite made-up genre of music, although I sometimes prefer to make up my own genres.

I'm glad you haven't perpetuated the heinous myth that Oasis fans are slack jawed morons by threatening to rip my genitals off.

    Oh wait, you have !

  • @checkoutgirl yeah i believe i said i wasn't much of an oasis fan, or is absorbing information just elusive for your shitty little mind. If you also hadn't realised, all music is "made up" at some point, so your retarded argument just fell flat. Who said anything about the best band ever? that title is for the beatles. So can you kindly crawl up into a ball, and roll off some hill and undo the mistake of your mothers cunt?

  • @Jackonsinit "all music is "made up" at some point"

Really ? That's very insightful and informative.

"i said i wasn't much of an oasis fan"

You're not much of anything by the looks of it.

    "your shitty little mind"

    Wow, praise from Caesar !

"that title is for the beatles."

Maybe, but I think Wings are the band the Beatles could have been.

"undo the mistake of your mothers cunt"

Phew ! Considered advice from an insightful mind. Are you an angry 15 year old who hates his parents ?

  • @checkoutgirl i dont see why the fuck you're making a point out of me saying genres of music are made up. Has pop music always been around? no it fucking hasn't, someone made it up. I'm actually a big fan of the kinks and other 60's groups which is why i paid attention to Oasis as the "borrowed" from this period. No, no band is bigger or better than the beatles. Wings could suck my cock for all i care. No i'm angry at people who assume things of bands they know so little of you irish cunt

  • @Jackonsinit irish cunt ? It say a lot that this is your least abusive post. The Gallaghers are of Irish descent and you defended them, are they Irish cunts as well ? The Wings comment was a joke that I lifted from Alan Partridge, I'm not surprised you didn't spot the reference. I became aware of Oasis when they released Whatever in 1994, which I liked but I quickly bored of them, I'd say I know more about them than you. Neil Innes sued them and got a co-writing credit because he

  • @checkoutgirl hahahah irish descent but born and raised in england you cunt. I for one follow nurture over nature in that philosophical battle. Yeah i know Oasis have been sued for other song like "shakemaker" being the same as "i'd like to teach the world to sing". You reckn you know more? big fucking deal, but if you cant tell the difference between SOTSOG and DOYS and WTSMG then your ears must be wrecked from too much cock being shoved up them.

  • @checkoutgirl one more thing. If your feeling stressed like you appear in these comments, go fuck a sheep like the rest of your family probably do and relieve that tension.

  • @Jackonsinit That's me put in my place. I bow before your inarguable logic and fair-mindedness. There is a myth the Australians are pig-ignorant, foul-mouthed roustabouts but I can see from your posts that these myths are clearly wide of the mark. I believe there are five sheep for every one person in Australia and you're calling me a sheep-shagger ? I'm sure the irony in that is lost on you.

  • @checkoutgirl hahahahahahahahahah, first off, im from switzerland, secondly that hseep population is actually in new zealand hahaha you fucking dumb cunt. And are you fucking using the same "myth" joke that you used on me before? holey shit have i just found the extent of your fucking arguments. So you actually should bow before me because your last comment being "wide of the mark" would be a fucking understatement. Go home and get a fucking life you ignorant self centered piece of shit

  • @Jackonsinit lmao i felt the anger

  • @checkoutgirl made you piss cunt.

  • @Jackonsinit believed that they had ripped off his song "How Sweet To Be An Idiot" but I'm sure you knew that because your so much more informed than me and I'm just a thick Irish cunt, right ? If you debated a bit more with people rather than just calling people names, you might realise that they know more than you. You seem to enjoy ranting at people and being abusive, good luck with that. Form an orderly queue girls.....

  • I think, at most, Noel was influenced by this video. They are not, by any means, identical.

  • Oasis are a talentless joke.

  • Not sure why everyone gets on Noels back... he's not the only one who ripped it off, take a look at the La's.

  • after dark

  • I love The Kinks.

  • oasis rules!!!

    and this song is amazing!

  • I love how everyone came to this video because of Oasis and to talk about oasis

If it weren't for Oasis, this video wouldve gotten no views and this song would have been long forgoten

    are you mad ferrit??

  • @buellerferris It hasn`t anything to do with Oasis how do you think the other Kinks videos get so many views it`s cause Kinks are avsome and Ray Davies is genius

  • PWHITE

  • hm Made of secrets

  • Oasis were essentially a non-specific tribute band. I'm not sure that Noel's had an original thought in his life.

  • What a fantastic song and (clip, banned back in 66 - whether it was because of the ghoulish theme or Ray in drag or both, I don't know, but apart from anything else it's spectacularly edited and directed combining comedy and tragedy, as does the song, and is way ahead of its time.) Clip credits are wrong: it was a non-album single, til included on CD reissues of 'Face to Face'. The most underrated 60's brit band, just as they were hitting their straps.

  • @MrRobMull - Oasis didn't rip the video off, the whole tune/video of theirs was done in respect to The Kinks. Does the phrase "pay homage" mean nothing to you?

  • Love the Kinks, Wish i was a 60s guy, but then again i dont, coz i would be nearer death.Hmm, pros and cons, pros and cons. 60s has kinks beatles, i had aqua, boyzone, london boys.

  • The Kinks again can do no wrong. Another great melody! Way to go Ray & Dave

  • Great Kinks, love them,( Please check out a band called KRY, Miles Away) have got all Kinks songs, saw them live in Tunbridge Wells Kent a few years ago, the Kinks

    mean so much to me.

    atb Terry!!

  • Love this

  • importance of being idle?

  • this song reminds me of the house i grew up in

  • This is the first time I have heard this (believe it or not). which is odd as it is a such a great song a great composition.

  • The crackly, higher-pitched quality of this version makes it sound like it could almost be an old 20s/30s number. Especially with the black and white cockney London of the video.

A great song from a truly greater songwriter, and often unfairly overlooked in favour of other 60s acts. Makes me think of sitting around in my flat the last winter in Shadwell, with no job, in a two-roomed apartment on the second floor. Luckily I had the chance to emigrate, and write this from Spain. Thank you Ray.

  • Oasis ripped off this video,BASTARDS,get your own ideas!!!

  • @MrRobmull

    you speak words of truth

  • @MrRobmull I posted a similar comment and was told that Oasis made their video as a deliberate tribute to this......(although I still think they probably just copied it).

  • @MrRobmull Ellos admitieron que el video de " the importance of being idle " es muy similar en el estilo y su concepto con el de "Dead End Street" de the kinks ... asi que no le veo por que son bastardos por eso ...

  • @MrRobmull "ripped off"? they thought it was a good music video and decided to make a modern remake of it. there is nothing wrong with that. besides i don't think anyone cares about the video as long as the music is good

  • @MrRobmull OMG, SUCH DICKS FOR MAKING A TRIBUTE! THE MONSTERS!!!

  • @MrRobmull ripped? it´s a tribute

  • @MrRobmull It was a tribute, do you really think Oasis would attempt ripping of one of the great British bands that they themselves list as one of their major influences.

  • @marffy21 I think we can think of worse bands to emulate!

  • @MrRobmull how exactly did they they rip it off? just because they made a video with guy and coffin? both "dead end street" and "importance of being idle" are songs with working-class theme, both talk about hard life and death. however "death end street" is more about despair while "importance of being idle" is about laziness. In fact they got pretty much in common concerning theme and also visual material. But anyway, I would say it was more an inspiration than a rip-off.

  • @MrRobmull haha I've always thought that

  • @MrRobmull oasis didn't steal ideas from anybody. they were just inspired by the kinks and they provide respect for them...its a good thing cuz they know how good music sounds like

  • @MrRobmull Why is this the top-rated comment? Wait, why is this a comment?

  • @MrRobmull Eh, it was a nice tribute. I'm sure they didn't intend harm. Besides, if people didn't take influence from each other, we would still be punching rocks in order to make music.

  • @MrRobmull Oasis is just a fucking band of usupators : shall they die in hell's pop !

  • @MrRobmull like the guy under u says kinks were massive influence to oasis myeh

  • @MrRobmull I don't care for Oasis but the Kinks didn't come up with this in a vacuum. If you picked Ray and Dave's brains, you'd be able to find out all the inspirations here. All art is derivative.

  • @MrRobmull

    any problem with Oasis ?

  • 22 people are stuck in the coffin

  • Great!

  • lovely!

  • and again noel used this song as an inspiration, just listen to "the death of you and me": watch?v=kFx_IniNjfE

  • This video was banned by the BBC at the time! They would not show it on Top Of The Pops. Showing dead people in coffins was not in the BBC's agenda.

    First video nasty, maybe..........................

  • This is being played at the wrong speed at about 50% above the normal speed? It sounds much too fast compared to rthe original. Even Ray Davis's vocals sound far too high pitched.

  • @m06een00 He sounds high on speed!

  • Here, OASIS took inspiration for their 'The Importance Of Being Idle', isn't it?

  • @MultiTyrannosaurus Yeah, Noel was very honest about it. Always thought Oasis sounded more like The Kinks than the Beatles

  • 0:30 - 0:32

    Need I say more?

  • I think given the technology of the 60s. Dead End Street is an excellent video for the 60s. The black and white adds to the effect.

  • This video reminds me of Importance of Being Idle by Oasis.

  • @tabitha501 i always thought Sunny Afternoon was the influence, but perhaps this is the one he nicked :)

  • victoriana....im growin my hair sholder length.....wot a rebel...and polo necks.....i just dont give a damn...

  • START MIDDLE AND END,LETS HAVE FUN THEN!!!!!DON,T WASTE IT!!!!!

  • This song and video, really hits home the sad type of living conditions, that some Brits endured for so long, and didn't really do anything about. No bathroom, no inside toilet, the old tin bath in front of the fire, etc.

  • Birdman3120 claims to have owned 7 different cars. Since the legal age of driving is just before 17, it shows that birdman3120 owns a car on average, once every year. Take into account he also claims to own a bar, but having taken a masters degree at university as well, how could he have funded a bar by being a full time students for many years, gain a deposit from a bank with seemingly no assets. I put it to you that birdman3120 has faked his own personal profile

  • @birdshitonmyhead Ah, jackbone99, I was wondering when my favourite YouTube troll would pop up again. How have you been? Still pretending to be the disabled activist Jody McIntyre? I see you still haven't got a life yet :D

  • @birdshitonmyhead Thumbed your own comments up now jackbone99? Your hilarious :D

  • To paraphrase Damon Albarn, the Stones were pornographic, the kinks were geographic.

  • Why is the audio speeded up?

  • Sorry people for taking this whole comments up with our banter, it seems it is over and the comments can return back to normal. :) The Kinks = one of the greatest bands ever :)

  • Noting your comment that his age has no relevance to the other stuff lacks credibility since you failed to challenge it at the time, and your ability to copy and paste that comment but not your alleged claim that I told you to fuck off, proves you to be a troll deliberately polluting the thread as originally stated, I for one have no further purpose here and I will therefore withdraw after allowing myself one final round of reply to your inevitable reply before leaving the last word to you.

  • @Orgelsausen- but so too did every great rock n roll band, from the 60's t the present day. It started with THE BLUES, you see.

  • Oasis did nothing else than rip offs :-)

  • If calling a 59yo is insulting would calling him 49, 58 or 60 be ok. You assume what Mad Andy finds insulting. He can fight his own battles. Yours is the hang up over age as you lifted his age from his profile to stereotype him, something you could have done without mentioning his age BTW! You may want an apology but it would b ecompromised by your asking for it and quite frankly, i haven't a clue what I said that bothered you and if it was said way back it is a bit late to take offence.

  • @abelseeman I knew you would reply, I should have bet some money on it. Wow, less than a day to reply to me. I thought you were grabbing a life?!?! Which 59 year old are you calling?!?! Why would calling a 59 year old be insulting?!?! I was winding you up when I said Andy would find it insulting, hence the wink after it, but like everything I say you have taken it to heart. I simply said he was 59, his age had nothing to do with rest of the stuff I wrote, so I don't see that as stereotyping.

  • @birdman3120 SIGH!!!! You said because he was 59 he probably supported the bankers,fox-hunting, read the Daily Mail etc...... So he's intelligent in your eyes. Cool, maybe you learnt off him to prove that. Ragarding the things I called you, come on, have a good look at yourself and as for telling you to fuck off, copy and paste and give the number of hours/days previous to confirm or withdraw that statement. Better say you won't be told what to do after you fail to find it.

  • @abelseeman Have you grabbed that life yet, if you have it wasn't much to grab. You act as though you are tired of this convo and yet you keep coming back. Admit it, your living for this ;D. Me? I'm just bored and killing some time. If you go back and read what I wrote; "your 59, very probably a Tory and a Daily Mail reader, fox hunting supporter and a supporter of the bankers". Where am I saying that because he is 59 he is all those?

  • @birdman3120 If 59 has no relevance nor does your age stereotyping him as a Tory Daily Mail reader etc. Since you are posting to kill time out of boredom (lacking a life) and posted stuff of no relevance; you admission; clearly he was right to suggest you were polluting the thread rhen as you boast now that you do and therefore trolling too. My intelligence and his have proved nothing. Your stupidity has dug the hole and now fills it from the inside.

  • @abelseeman I said he was a Tory, Daily Mail reader from the views he was giving. Nothing to do with his age, just thought I would mention it. He wasn't right that I was polluting the thread, but thanks for your concern. My original comment came from the heart. I haven't trolled until recently on this video, after I apologised to Andy, i.e. I am just trolling you now, as you love it so much :), you keep coming back for more.

  • @birdman3120 Been offline since but yes, your apology to me seems sincere but do not want to get back into this now having got clear so, in the words of those who make us all look like losers, "I'm out."

  • @MadAndyBeckman That's ok, have a good life :)

  • @MadAndyBeckman

He's known to troll. His own profile is faked

  • @birdshitonmyhead I think it's hilarious that you call me a troll jackbone99, when you have created an account with a name that is in reference to me and that it is unavailable to view. :D Not to mention your countless fake Jody McIntyre accounts and other fake accounts :D You are one funny guy jackbone99 :D

  • @birdman3120 You say "I am just trolling you now, as you love it so much." i.e. STILL polluting the thread with you irrelevancies... it was not about his current political views or how they should be interpreted nor is it now about whether i love you trolling or not even if you believe I am coming back for more. You keep polluting and you keep trolling and I don't care if you have the last word because from now on you're on your own bud.

  • @abelseeman Yeah, I may be polluting the thread now, but I am giving you to live for. I bet you check to see if I have written to you, just to validate your life. :D I wasn't polluting or trolling before Andy accepted my apology, I'm just giving you some of your own medicine because when it comes to trolling, you my son are the best troll there is. I just really wanna be like you so much :D.

  • @abelseeman .... I see the whole thing on the age issue has finally sunk in, I knew if we kept at it you would get it eventually. If I am own my own now, then this is adios, but I have a feeling you won't be able to resist coming back ;) Cheerio

  • Comment removed

  • @abelseeman ... I simply pointed out he is 59, it had no real relevance, just though I would mention it. Once again you put words in my mouth. I've apologised for the rest of it, so I fail to see what you are fighting for again?!?! He is clearly intelligent, but I haven't learnt anything of him unfortuately. I mentioned his intelligent to allude to someone's lack of it, but you failed to pick up on it. Whoops! :D Looking forward to your next installment. :)

  • @abelseeman ..... As I have said before Andy and I have settled our differences, as you intention to join this convo was to stick up for him, which he didn't need you to as he is an intellegent bloke, clear from the way he writes, what are you fighting for anymore.?!?!

  • @abelseeman ..... Some of the things you called me; loser, pathetic, ignorant, childish, a troll and told me to fuck off. You don't have to apologise but it says a lot about you. Next time address your reply to me so I know you have replied, wouldn't want to miss some more nuggets of your inspirational banter. :)

  • Given that you see my typo aging him as 69 as an insult to him you clearly do have a problem with age having now dissed 69. Making the point that somene who is 59 can fight his own battles also show his age is an issue. Why not just say he can fight his wn battles without raising his age? Am I being patronising? Probably because you do, or did need advice.

  • Comment removed

  • Ok, I've seen your response apologising to him. I cannot speak for him but to you I would give one piece of advice. When you rrespond to someone you disagree in conflict, never relate to anything in their profile. On many sites looking at profiles leaves a track and I have astrict rule never to look at other peoples profiles before the dust has settled so I cannot be accused of getting personal or tempted to. If HE posted his age on the thread, fair game, go for it, but he did not.

  • @abelseeman Ok, now you are just being patronising. I don't need your piece of advice, thanks very much mate. Can't you just let it lie without having to say something to me?

  • @birdman3120 Your asking me for an apology is bizarre so long after the event. I have a rule of never asking for apologies or issuing canned apologies - an apology is worthless if not contrite and accepting a demanded apology is akin to accepting something as a gift from the person who stole it from you. Your apology to him was spontaneous and public and therefore very worth, sincerey and gracious in my opinion. See how he takes it. We are crossing posts and I have to grab some life for now.

  • @abelseeman I never said 69 was an insult. I was simply pointing out it was insulting of you to make him 10 years older than he is. You have a real hang up over the whole age issue. I shall say it again, as you obviously have a problem understanding. There is nothing wrong with being 59, 69 or any age. I still want an apology as you have been more offensive to me then I have to Mad Andy. My point still stands, he can fight his own battles. You say you need to grab a life but I expect a reply.

  • @abelseeman Can I offer you some words of wisdom. Someone who is 59 years old can fight their own battles on YouTube ;)

  • A apology on behalf of my myself and the two lunatics, but I have tried to get them to private message me, but they continue to ruin this video's comment page by continuing the arguement and rather pathetically talking about me in front of me.

No one send me messages tell me to stop publically argueing, as I have told them what to do and they refuse to listen :)

  • @birdman3120 So have have hypocrisy as well as paranoia and naivety. NOBODY SHOULD PRIVATE MESSAGE YOU BECAUSE (1) This debate is public, not private, and to go private is a form of censorship which by it's nature appeals to one with something to hide; and (2) Having dissed someone through a profile hardly worth of addressing personally. If it say he's 59 or whatever in his profile and you use that for gratuitous public abuse it he'd be nuts to talk to you privately.

  • @abelseeman What do you not understand about the words private message me? I shall now take a reading from the gospel of abelseeman; "Let's be kind to him and let him have the last word." I see you couldn't stick to that for more than a day. I will continue to discuss the topic with Mad Andy publically, as it was intially between him and me. I will only speak to the organ grinder not the monkey. I expect a public reply from you as you seem to have to have the last word. :)

  • @birdman3120 If you want to talk privately it is your responsibility to message them. Your continued posturing that they should open is cowardly. You just don't get appreciate the difference between public and private. MadAndy will not talk to you privately quite rightly because you have a problem with him personally being 69 and I would, but not until a reasonable period of time has lapsed after this public discussion. It is irrational to expect someone you abuse personally in public to chat.

  • @abelseeman He's 59 mate, don't insult him by adding an extra 10 years ;). I am amazed that you don't "get it" either. I want an apology from you for getting abusive towards me in your first comment towards me. I have apologised to Mad Andy for my behaviour, so what are you even fighting for anymore? Or do you just like to argue the toss? I think Mad Andy can talk for himself, he is a grown up. He doesn't need someone to fight his corner for him.

  • @abelseeman Oh, by the way I don't have a problem with him being 59. I don't know why you keep saying that, it seems you are just trying to stir things up.

  • @birdman3120 Your falure to "get it" never ceases to amaze. You call us lunatics. You are beng childishly offensive or you sincerely believe that. If the former do you seriously expect those you insult and abuse to chat privately, if the latter why would you want to talk to lunatics? If those imaginary fans wanted you to stop posting publicly they would post on here telling us all to shut up.

  • Comment removed

  • I would like to say a big sorry on behalf of myself and the other two, to anyone who is having to read this tedious discussion and is possibly hacked off by it. Many apologies and thanks to the 37 people who thumbed up my comment, much appreciated. :)

  • @birdman3120/madandy&all Having started the discussion he now finds it tedious and still does not get it by assuming a right to impose his apology on the behalf of others. Some people never learn clinging on desperately with his 37 thumbs. Seems like he wants to abandon making a public fool of himself at last so showing some respect here by at last relating to the Kinks, let's end it with their words:- "La La La La La La La La La La La, Let's All Drink To The Death Of A Clown."

  • @MadAndyBeckman Thanks for your childish reply to me but as I said to the other guy, you're avid follower, private message me.

  • So everyone over 59 years old reads the Mail, supports fox-hunting and the bankers including Tony Benn. Your arrogance assumptions are the method of those who hijack cultural contributions to promote naive political propoganda and when outed you distort innocent personal statements like age to character assassinate those who counter you asthe Daily Mail does. it is clear from your saying so much about me, speculative or true or not, that with nothing to say for yourself you need to get a life.

  • blootmens, COUNT ME IN BRO, BEST TIMES, NOT SO NOW !!!!!!

  • i like the video in B/W rathar than colour....it give it more of an old-tyme 'Kinky' feeling.

  • Hippie Punk like theSlacks

  • @daddyslackful Exactly man. The Kinks are so punk rock and I love it.

  • 22 people live at a dead end street.

  • 22 people live at a dead end street

  • Ray Davies is than your ignorant negativity any day. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

  • I am ignoring previous. right wing statements on this amazing song. I have lived in

squalor like this. I can't believe your little minded opinions the greatest art.

  • Well, this is the very video i ever come across. It is deep to the hardship of society.

Pure art, with a good old english irony on society. Soap Opera and the Village Green

Preservation Society included. have fun. This is the very first video ever. THANKS

  • Well, this is the very video i ever come across. It is deep to the hardship of society.

Pure art, with a good old english irony on society. Soap Opera and the Village Green

    Preservation Society included. have fun

  • So good.

  • Topical song that is timeless. Thanks for the video!!!!!!

  • how people from this generation can be another shit generation nowadays, they required peace and stuff to the goverments of the 60'..... now they are the wolrd, they have the botton, nad everything sucks as always

if they fail with that ideals, what its going to happend with our generation, we dont have any ideals, our generation is whimsical

  • I knew Oasis ripped this one off for "The Importance of Being Idle", but it wasn't until i read some of the comments that i realised The Clash also borrowed heavily from this for "London Calling". The Kinks never get the credt they deserve for influencing so many bands, particulary the Brit Pop band of the mid 90's.

  • Oasis fully ripped this off in the importance of being idle video

  • People are dyin' in dead end street..

  • 00:33 thats a haircut :)

  • Don't like The Kinks too much? Not to worry love, I love The Kinks myself but I'm sure you'll find something that's right up your street. Life is a pick and mix after all, innit blud???

  • The Kinks and The Beatles and The Stones and

The Who made it all possible. I like my hiperbolies. Maybe Beethoven had something to do with it)

  • if the damned didnt cover this gem...they should of it had the dark sound the damned did....long live the kinks...cheers

  • Yes, the Kinks were great social commentators of the 60's - it was tough, weverywhere by train or bus, no central heating, cold and wet and being warned every Monday night by Panorama that the Russians were coming and you kept thinking: "why the 'ell would they want to come here?!" . . .

  • Ray Davies is not only a musical genius, but also a hottie!

  • @KellyGreen5555 who gives great hugs!

  • Remember being carried home in a coffin most weekends in the 60's. No wait, it was a bus.

  • Very cool, one of my fave Kinks songs.

  • @Murilopepler,Dude the Beatles were playing since 1957,in 62 the Beatles were already the biggest band around,i really doubt the Kinks would have even formed without the impact of the Beatles around.

  • I've had this song stuck in my head for a week. Great week!!!

  • i will go to england and find that place
