if I was really sick and the doctor prescribed a poison taht would help me survive I would take it, can I have another anollogy please as to why they cant eat despite being told by a doctor that they need to?
@MrMasticater also to make it more appropriate if the docotor told me that the posion wasnt a poison and that I have a mental illness so that I think its a poison and I need it to survive I would still take it
@MrMasticater So if a doctor told you that swallowing bleach would cure your ulcer, and told you that it's not actually bleach and you only see it as such because you have a mental illness, you would drink it? I have a hard time believing that. You really have no idea what a mental illness does to your mind if you think it's as simple as "do what the doctor says".
@MrMasticater To add on to that, even a mentally healthy person wouldn't put that much faith in what a doctor says. If a doctor told me to take something that would kill me, I'd get a second opinion at least.
@MrMasticater Again, you're missing the point. Having a mental illness messes with your mind. You wouldn't be able to think "well, my family wants what's best for me" because your mental illness would not allow you to. It would lead you to think that they're trying to hurt you for some reason. Jealously? Revenge? You don't know. All you know is that you can't trust anyone. That is why it's so hard for people with mental illnesses to recover.
@MrMasticater To add on to that, even a mentally healthy person wouldn't put that much faith in what a doctor says. If a doctor told me to take something that would kill me, I'd get a second opinion at least.

@videomanmolusque Hi, I have a hard time with almost the same thing. I'm diagnosed anorexic with binge/bulimic tendencies. All my family is so focused on being sure that I eat, but my binge sessions go un-noticed. I try to tell them I need help with eating too much too, but they don't think that me eating too much is possible -__- no amount of food is too much to them. I'm such a fat failure!
no your not! trust me. i know what you're going through i was anorexic for about a year and all i could do was blame myself for EVERYTHING! if there was a dead bird on the road it was somehow my fault in my head. part of the healing prosses is learning to shed some of that blame. even if the don't mean to hurt u your family is to blame for part of this. you need to talk to them and if you have a therapist i recommend asking them to help you talk to your family and explain
this is all so true, no one knows that i have and ED. And they would not understand at all. today I binged, entire box of mandarin oranges 9 donuts, 4 english muffins, 8 nonfat yogurts(go figure), 3 containers of jelly sours, large bag of Tera chips, cake, beef jerky, and then had to go and eat supper at my family's house where i have to eat in front of everyone and it kills me.I have no control in my life at all. THANK YOU for uploading this.
wow, you did an amazing job on this video. you explained everything so well. especially when you explained how you can't just put a burger infront of a person with anorexia and expect them to say " oh after all these months and years I will just eat this burger b/c you told me to, I'm cured!" People just don't understand. Great job!
I love this video, I suffered from ana and now have Mia because people made me eat. Also the comment about binge and overeatting is right. My therapist explained to me that you can eat 400 or less cals and he bulimic. It's about the loss of control and the feelings of guilt. Then no it's not for attention no one knew about my Ed for years, I was ashamed I did not want people to know how horrible it was.
Thanks for making this I wish my friends would see this because they seem to not believe me when I say all this stuff to them >.< I wonder where these dumb stereotypes came from anyways!
THANK YOU!! MY GOD I HATE PEOPLE THAT WHEN I WAS....well looking hidious or whatever...i mean they were like why doesnt she just eat....I WAS LIKE I WANT THEM TO DIE DIE DIE
You have a beautiful voice, it's very lovely to listen to! :) Thank you for posting this video. I'm hoping to help educate people about EDs...it's hard for me not to feel angry when people make these assumptions, but I have to get over it and realize that they have a hard time empathizing because they don't know what it's like to have one. You rock.
On the Dr. Phil show "Deadly Thin" (I think that was the one) the woman was anorexic and bulimic because her father blamed her for being molested as a young girl. All Dr. Phil could talk about was how the media served as a bad role model, making kids want to be thin. Thank you for setting the record straight on eating disorders; you really did your homework! It's refreshing to get the facts separated from the sea of misinformation.
this is all the way back in 2008........i wish there was a proper youtube goodbye video so i wouldnt get worried ...kat inspired me when i was at one of my weakest points of my disorder i like to believe that i will never return to that mindset
My friend is suffering from an eating disorder right now, she has since she was 15 and she got better for a year but had a relapse. I wanted to understand this more so I watched this video and its been very helpful. Thank you.
im getting better tho...well trying...it's really hard sometimes
some days i wake up and say to myelf screw this im eating today..then i have a hardtime getting myself to actually go over 500 calories... that's normal eating to me :( i know thats pathetic
I am recovered...well recovering, but doing very very well. I appreciate this video very much. I believe you are correct in that education is the way to go.
Excellent for those without eating disorders for info, and excellent for those who may be suffering to know they are not alone, and also understand more. Good job.
Thank you, this video was very well put together and explained the misconceptions so well. There's alot of prejudice against it out there, maybe if people knew the truth, the real facts then it would be better. Thanks again.
Did you know that Doctors are self-important? So self-important in fact that they tell people things to feel more important. They try to convince a large group of people that they're right, this makes them "experts" in whatever field they are specializing in. People who don't eat and throw up to stay thin do it for attention. I don't care what you are convinced is the reason for these activities, but anorexics just want attention. They want acclaim.
@chade1983 I've had anorexia for nine years and I have only told one person about it. I don't go around proclaiming that I have an eating disorder. I don't flaunt it in people's faces or brag about it. You are extremely ignorant to think that every single person with anorexia does it for attention. Attention to me is embarrassing. I would rather blend into the background than to have everyone focus on me. Stop trying to sound like a know it all when you don't know anything about EDs, ok?
@TeaPartyParade Whatever. Eating disorders are nothing but a growing niche industry. The more people that start to say they have a certain problem the more money there is to be exchanged. Every issue gets a day and a group fighting for acknowledgement and funding. This issue is no different. Don't you think it's funny that in the country that has the most obese children there are other children who fear becoming obese? Do you think this is a coincidence? Do you know anything about human nature?
@TeaPartyParade I suggest you start to see yourself as a human and stop thinking you are not a human. Humans eat food. They consume and reproduce. Due to the creation and success of the "society" expectations have been created for genders, races, religious people, and every other label you can attach to people. The society does this through selling products. The issuance of currency to the populace and the freedom of discretionary spending fuels the production of these expectations.
@TeaPartyParade If you have anorexia you failed to realize any of this. You fell victim to it. Then after you realized it you probably felt worse because you missed it, which probably made you worse. People who are control freaks that become victimized by something beyond their reasoning ability have varied responses to the realization that they have in fact been led into something, all the while thinking they were leading the way.
@TeaPartyParade How did you respond, did you realize any of this yet? Do you see life this way? Can you even imagine a life that does not involve carrying the burdens of yesterday? Are you able let your failures go and become a new person that doesn't just want to dissappear? When you physically do not have any power it is difficult to feel empowered. This whole issue is the byproduct of commercialism, which is only possible through the creation of societies and money. Everything else is static.
@TeaPartyParade Did you know that the average cost of in-patient care for anorexics isaround $1,000/day. And most treatment centers recommend patients say for 3-6months. With an average of 30 days per month the care centers will get a revenue of between $90-$180,000 per patient.Has the little light clicked on in your head yet? Here are some old adages for you to ponder, "The squeeky wheel gets the grease" and this one is very fitting, "Any publicity, even bad publicity, is good publicity."
Thank you soo much for this :). I was diagnosed when I was 15, and it was such a struggle at first for my parents and people I knew to understand. Misconceptions 2, 8 and 10 are the most disturbing for me--in my experience, it has never really been about looking prettier or skinnier or anything like that, and I very strongly abhor it when I hear people make fun of those w/EDs as if we're just stuck-up people obsessed with our looks.
This video is SOOOOOO true!!!! VERY VERY good video!! The world definitely needs to see this vid about this topic! Thanks for posting!! :D (I'm going to post your video to my Eating Disorders Awareness group on Facebook because this video is awesome!! :) )
THANK YOU!!! I am so happy I found this! I made the mistake of telling one of my friends....She tells me how stupid I am, all the time. I try to explain it to her, but it never works. I'm giving her the link to this video. Hopefully she'll listen to you.
omg that just cleared up alot of things for me! my mum had ana so i was predisposed to it and ive had ana mindstate all me life and ive even starved and lost a lil weight but i didnt think i could be considered anorexic since im not really underweight :( im about 5'5" and 116 lbs. can i get help?
I know of A LOT of people who would benefit from watching this video. I've been told to "snap out of it" and "pull myself together" so many times by people who are meant to care. You articulated this very well... I'll show this video to certain people in the future I think. xx
Amazing! Your video is better than ANY documentary I've ever seen about eating disorders. Even my therapist doesnt understand most of this. The information in this video needs to be made into a prime time documentary!

I totally agree with what you had to say about putting a burger in front of someone with and ED and expecting them to eat it and then miraculously be cured... because of the excessive restriction of food (mostly with anorexics) a large amount of food at one time can actually hurt them, not only mentally but physically. I know that when i havent eaten all day, if i eat a large meal my stomach hurts immediately after and i end up getting sick.
so true... most ppl with EDs are normal weights doesnt mean thy need help any less then people who are underweight.... im a Healty 115 lbs standing at 5' 3" but i starved myself and lost so much weight iv lost my period... i can no longer have children :P if my mom had got me the help and support i needed i might have been able to have my own children someday
Thank you thank you. thank you! I think this needs to be aired as one of those "public service announcements" on TV. Then maybe people would finally understand and stop judging!
I really liked this, and oh so true. Unfortunately, I still think the Western world has more of its fair share of anorexics due most of the focus being on money making ventures, and distorted media, etc. Its not completely and totally a psychological disorder. In America, for the most part, food really is poison.
and thanks for number 3. I have "non purging" [restrictive] and it sucks because most people have no idea that bulimia ISN'T just about throwing up. and that there are so many unknown eating disorders.
im not sure how you can say how people who starve themselves don't drop low enough in weight to look like an anorexic. i've been struggling with anorexia for 5 years and was at one point 82 pounds. how i got there was not eating.
everybodys bodies are different, some people don't lose a ton of weight, some people do. Just like in recovery some girls gain faster then others...your body does amazing things to try and keep you healthy so you can be at a "normal" weight and be starving yourself
This is @ asdfghkjlena , (not to the video poster)
in response to her post:
"im not sure how you can say how people who starve themselves don't drop low enough in weight to look like an anorexic. i've been struggling with anorexia for 5 years and was at one point 82 pounds. how i got there was not eating."
I have a feeling she's not thin anymore, because very often we hit a low weight, then our metabolism turns on us -- which is why you can't always spot an ED by the person's weight.
so true. it really helped me alot. ive had problems with my weight since i was about 11. this taught me that i wasn't "different" or not the normal type.
This video is so true, I can't say how many people I have known who say that only girls have anorexia and the reason is all about weight and attention.
And another ED to add to the list of eating disorders is diabulimia where type one diabetics skip their insulin on purpose with the intention of losing weight. (There are probably other reasons for developing diabulimia but with my study on this one none of my sources have ever said it is about emotions, but that probably effects it too.)
Speaking as a recovered anorexic I think I might able ot shead some light on that. topic for you. Most likely the reason that orthorexia can be potentaly bad is because of the restrictive eating patterns involved with that "lifestyle" Orthorexic's only eat what they consider "heathly" foods and things that are not processed or refined. That said it is almost impossible for anyone to find food that has not been processed in some way or from these days. So the person starves. Just a thought..
@handsandleet Hi, i had anorexia / eating disorder not otherwise specified a few years ago, but began as orthorexia i think. ie i would only eat veg, fruit, boiled wholegrain rice and a bit of chicken each day as i only believed these were healthy foods. I was not trying to lose weight, i just didn't want to 'poison' my body with bad foods. I was not trying to starve myself or restrict the number of calories, i just couldn't eat enough quantity of 'healthy' food, so became underweight.

It bothers me that you're wrong.
Misconception Number 1:
-You're right. But some anorexics do throw up too.
Misconception Number 3:
-"Restrictive" does not mean you throw up after. It means you RESTRICT what you eat. Throwing up to correct binging is called PURGING, not restricting. And "eating a whole lot" is called binge eating disorder, it isn't bulimia at all.
You misheard her. She said that there is a bulimia called restrictive bulimia where they ''eat a whole lot'' (binge)...then fast or 'restrict' in order to 'correct' the binge. Bulimia is not all about binging and purging by throwing up.
yes but EVERY bulimic knows that the term 'binge' or 'eating a whole lot' is relative. (And for those that don't know what 'relative' means...it means to each person, they see binging as a different amount. Some ppl see it as a cookie...some see it as 2000 cal...etc. But in literal, medical terms it means having a lot in a short period of time). So again I say....she is correct.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I'm talking medically here. If she's going to make a video about eating disorders, at least be medically correct. And the difference between overeating & binging is the loss of control you feel while binging. Not the amount.
I'm sorry hun, but you're just wrong when it comes to your definition of overeating. Overeating purely means you eat past the point of being full. If you shove it all in your mouth in 10 min or 10 hours....the end result is overeating. But eating it all in 10 min is likely to be considered a binge. And binging doesn't only mean food. You can binge on alcohol, drugs, water, etc. People who overeat usually have a lack of control...
DSM-IV bingeing are three or more of the following: 1. Eating faster than normal 2. Eating until feeling uncomfortably full 3. Eating large amounts of food when you are not physically hungry 4. Eating alone or hiding eating to avoid embarrassment 5. Feeling ashamed, disgusted, depressed, distressed or guilty about overeating
overeating simply is a x-mas dinner for some
and you can overeat over a long period
from a medical point of view you guys are both right and wrong
that's not my opinion, that's the consent opinion of the entire specialism of psychiatry as written down in they're guideline based on research
and every one of those points indicate a lack of control because they go against the individuals logical judgment and they act of a (temporary) desire that they'll regret later on
sooo... bit awkward cuz this is as scientific as you'll get in medicine
(somehow 5 pages of a paper don't really seem very much)
Simply eating faster than normal, until you're uncomfortably full, and eating large amounts of food do not qualify as an eating disorder. It's the honest lack of control you feel while doing it that qualifies it as a disorder.
1. Lots of people eat fast at times. Sometimes simply because the food tastes really good.
2. Eating until you're uncomfortably full-- Uh, hello? Thanksgiving. Tons of people do it.
3. Overeating. Happens all the time at restaurants & buffets.
And all I'm saying is that those first three things alone are not what makes a disorder a disorder. It's the last thing & the lack of control that qualifies it as a disorder and not simple overeating.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Read a book, you'll learn something. Or more specifically, read Eating Disorders by Pamela Keel. Page forty-nine, if you really want to know. Don't tell me I'm wrong. I'm sorry, did you write a five page research paper on eating disorders? Didn't think so.
No need to be rude because I haven't crossed that line with you, To imply that I HAVEN'T read a book is insulting. The book you may be referring to may differ from what I've read. People are still doing research about EDs so don't get your panties in a twist b/c someone disagrees with you. And hun, I don't have to write a research paper to know about EDs, boo I live it everyday. So get off your high horse cuz you're coming off as a catty bitch right now. Chill. It's a debate. Calm the hell down
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Oh, and calling me 'hun' ISN'T insulting? Right. How about you get off YOUR high horse because guess what? I've both researched and lived what I'm talking about. Fact isn't a matter of opinion, meaning it isn't a matter of disagreement. I am right in saying that the main difference between binging and overeating is control.
Most chicks would be more insulted by 'bitch' than 'hun' but to each his own. (btw, i call just about everyone hun). Oh well...you're getting hella silly for no reason. It's cool though.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Ahaha what the hell. I didn't call you a bitch. And calling someone hun is condescending. And I'M getting silly? No. You said it yourself, this is a debate. So until you show me evidence that what you said is true.. You know, a source or something. I'm right.
Jessicalala.. I just want to say that writing a research paper about Eating disorders while very helpful to others that want to understand more about these illnesses is only one side of the story. the fact is most of the people here that your having this "debate" with are currently suffering or are in "recovery: from there ED's. Having first hand knowledge about ED's you learn alot more about them. I am sorry but what Cat says in this video is absolutely correct. She did a wonderful job on this.
Right... do some research.. That is a laugh... I have done extensive research both during my battle and while I have been in recovery... While I am not an expert I do consider myself an authority on the subject...
Hahahah. Let's just have everyone hate me for correcting her. She IS wrong, though. The difference between binge eating and overeating is lack of control.
chewing and spitting isn't really a part of bulimia, is it just a disordered eating symptom that can really be part of anorexia, bulimia, ed-nos, etc..
Well done for the excellent, informative programme. To have someone explain so articulately about EDs is refreshing. Yes, there is still so much ignorance. Thank you for being so candid and I wish you well.
What a wonderful video. Thank you so much for making it. I wish that everybody who has these misconceptions could see this. It can (and I'm sure has) really open some eyes for those who don't understand what an ED is.
THANKYOU SO MUCH! my boyfriend loved this video and we just emailed it to my dad... I have been trying to put this into words my whole life and you just did it in under nine minutes. THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU!!!!!
Cintaku, Binging/purging can cause weight gain in the long run because 1. It is impossible to get EVERYTHING up from vomiting, and since most binges consist of high calorie/high fat foods, even if only a small portion gets digested, over time that adds up 2. Not everyone with bulimia throws up - laxatives, diuretics etc. won't make you lose weight so it's like compulsive overeating then dehydrating yourself, and
3. Like with anorexia, their metabolism will slow down considerably. Don't get me wrong, a lot of people with bulimia can be consistently skinny, but on average, a bulimic's weight will fluctuate
This video should be a requirement for the media, and those who know people w/ Eds....it makes me angry when people think I'm all better b/c they see me eating...thats another reason why I dont eat in front of people-I dont feel comfrotable eating in front of them AND b/c then ppl will think ur fine-when inside ur not.
Read Explaining colours to a blind man. Not only will it enlighten many as to what living with a mental illness and an eating disorder is like, it also gives comfort to those sufferers who think there is no hope and that they are alone. It is very informative, sometimes shocking but also very funny in parts. All in all, a good read and highly recommended.

They want acclaim.
chade1983 1 year ago
@chade1983 I've had anorexia for nine years and I have only told one person about it. I don't go around proclaiming that I have an eating disorder. I don't flaunt it in people's faces or brag about it. You are extremely ignorant to think that every single person with anorexia does it for attention. Attention to me is embarrassing. I would rather blend into the background than to have everyone focus on me. Stop trying to sound like a know it all when you don't know anything about EDs, ok?
TeaPartyParade 1 year ago
@TeaPartyParade Whatever. Eating disorders are nothing but a growing niche industry. The more people that start to say they have a certain problem the more money there is to be exchanged. Every issue gets a day and a group fighting for acknowledgement and funding. This issue is no different. Don't you think it's funny that in the country that has the most obese children there are other children who fear becoming obese? Do you think this is a coincidence? Do you know anything about human nature?
chade1983 1 year ago
@TeaPartyParade I suggest you start to see yourself as a human and stop thinking you are not a human. Humans eat food. They consume and reproduce. Due to the creation and success of the "society" expectations have been created for genders, races, religious people, and every other label you can attach to people. The society does this through selling products. The issuance of currency to the populace and the freedom of discretionary spending fuels the production of these expectations.
chade1983 1 year ago
@TeaPartyParade If you have anorexia you failed to realize any of this. You fell victim to it. Then after you realized it you probably felt worse because you missed it, which probably made you worse. People who are control freaks that become victimized by something beyond their reasoning ability have varied responses to the realization that they have in fact been led into something, all the while thinking they were leading the way.
chade1983 1 year ago
@TeaPartyParade How did you respond, did you realize any of this yet? Do you see life this way? Can you even imagine a life that does not involve carrying the burdens of yesterday? Are you able let your failures go and become a new person that doesn't just want to dissappear? When you physically do not have any power it is difficult to feel empowered. This whole issue is the byproduct of commercialism, which is only possible through the creation of societies and money. Everything else is static.
chade1983 1 year ago

I really liked this, and oh so true. Unfortunately, I still think the Western world has more of its fair share of anorexics due most of the focus being on money making ventures, and distorted media, etc. Its not completely and totally a psychological disorder. In America, for the most part, food really is poison.

everybodys bodies are different, some people don't lose a ton of weight, some people do. Just like in recovery some girls gain faster then others...your body does amazing things to try and keep you healthy so you can be at a "normal" weight and be starving yourself

I have a feeling she's not thin anymore, because very often we hit a low weight, then our metabolism turns on us -- which is why you can't always spot an ED by the person's weight.

This video is so true, I can't say how many people I have known who say that only girls have anorexia and the reason is all about weight and attention.
And another ED to add to the list of eating disorders is diabulimia where type one diabetics skip their insulin on purpose with the intention of losing weight. (There are probably other reasons for developing diabulimia but with my study on this one none of my sources have ever said it is about emotions, but that probably effects it too.)

im just wondering how orthorexia is a problem. can anyone explain this
handsandleet 2 years ago
Speaking as a recovered anorexic I think I might able ot shead some light on that. topic for you. Most likely the reason that orthorexia can be potentaly bad is because of the restrictive eating patterns involved with that "lifestyle" Orthorexic's only eat what they consider "heathly" foods and things that are not processed or refined. That said it is almost impossible for anyone to find food that has not been processed in some way or from these days. So the person starves. Just a thought..
Carpentersfan2003 2 years ago

The end.
jesssicalala 2 years ago
on #3:
You misheard her. She said that there is a bulimia called restrictive bulimia where they ''eat a whole lot'' (binge)...then fast or 'restrict' in order to 'correct' the binge. Bulimia is not all about binging and purging by throwing up.
lastingoptions 2 years ago 4
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Even then, restricting does not mean you binge. Restricting is simply restricting what you eat. It has nothing to do with binges.
And I know that.
jesssicalala 2 years ago
yes but EVERY bulimic knows that the term 'binge' or 'eating a whole lot' is relative. (And for those that don't know what 'relative' means...it means to each person, they see binging as a different amount. Some ppl see it as a cookie...some see it as 2000 cal...etc. But in literal, medical terms it means having a lot in a short period of time). So again I say....she is correct.
lastingoptions 2 years ago 3
This comment has received too many negative votes show
I'm talking medically here. If she's going to make a video about eating disorders, at least be medically correct. And the difference between overeating & binging is the loss of control you feel while binging. Not the amount.
jesssicalala 2 years ago
Overeating = eating past the point of satiety.
Binging = eating a lot of food in a short period of time.
lastingoptions 2 years ago 5
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Overeating = eating a lot of food in a short period of time, too.
I'm telling you it's the lack of control that makes the real difference between binging and overeating. Would you like a source? Sheesh.
jesssicalala 2 years ago
I'm sorry hun, but you're just wrong when it comes to your definition of overeating. Overeating purely means you eat past the point of being full. If you shove it all in your mouth in 10 min or 10 hours....the end result is overeating. But eating it all in 10 min is likely to be considered a binge. And binging doesn't only mean food. You can binge on alcohol, drugs, water, etc. People who overeat usually have a lack of control...
lastingoptions 2 years ago 4
DSM-IV bingeing are three or more of the following: 1. Eating faster than normal 2. Eating until feeling uncomfortably full 3. Eating large amounts of food when you are not physically hungry 4. Eating alone or hiding eating to avoid embarrassment 5. Feeling ashamed, disgusted, depressed, distressed or guilty about overeating
overeating simply is a x-mas dinner for some
and you can overeat over a long period
from a medical point of view you guys are both right and wrong
ro0ske 2 years ago
1. Eating faster than normal is not a disorder.
2. Until until you feel uncomfortably full is OVEREATING.
3. Eating large amounts of food when you are not physically hungry is again, overeating.
4. Eating alone/hiding when you eat to avoid embarrassment IS a disorder, but is not binge eating disorder.
5. Feeling ashamed etc. is part of every eating disorder.
You are wrong, I'm sorry. The difference between binging and overeating is the lack of control a person feels while binging.
jesssicalala 2 years ago
2. Eating until*
jesssicalala 2 years ago
uhm from a scientific point of view:
that's not my opinion, that's the consent opinion of the entire specialism of psychiatry as written down in they're guideline based on research
and every one of those points indicate a lack of control because they go against the individuals logical judgment and they act of a (temporary) desire that they'll regret later on
sooo... bit awkward cuz this is as scientific as you'll get in medicine
(somehow 5 pages of a paper don't really seem very much)
ro0ske 2 years ago
This has been flagged as spam show
Simply eating faster than normal, until you're uncomfortably full, and eating large amounts of food do not qualify as an eating disorder.
3. Overeating. Happens all the time at restaurants & buffets.
jesssicalala 2 years ago
all i said is that's part of the DSM-IV (the classification psychiatrists use)
so if you don't agree, do some scientific research (maybe a RCT or 2) and take it up with them :)
ro0ske 2 years ago
And all I'm saying is that those first three things alone are not what makes a disorder a disorder. It's the last thing & the lack of control that qualifies it as a disorder and not simple overeating.

Fact isn't a matter of opinion, meaning it isn't a matter of disagreement. I am right in saying that the main difference between binging and overeating is control.

jesssicalala 2 years ago
Jessicalala.. I just want to say that writing a research paper about Eating disorders while very helpful to others that want to understand more about these illnesses is only one side of the story. the fact is most of the people here that your having this "debate" with are currently suffering or are in "recovery: from there ED's. Having first hand knowledge about ED's you learn alot more about them. I am sorry but what Cat says in this video is absolutely correct. She did a wonderful job on this.

I'm wondering why binging and purging causes you to gain weight in the long run?
Cintaku78 2 years ago
Cintaku, Binging/purging can cause weight gain in the long run because 1. It is impossible to get EVERYTHING up from vomiting, and since most binges consist of high calorie/high fat foods, even if only a small portion gets digested, over time that adds up 2. Not everyone with bulimia throws up - laxatives, diuretics etc. won't make you lose weight so it's like compulsive overeating then dehydrating yourself, and
squazzer 2 years ago
3. Like with anorexia, their metabolism will slow down considerably. Don't get me wrong, a lot of people with bulimia can be consistently skinny, but on average, a bulimic's weight will fluctuate
