  • if this doesn't make kids want t o learn the alphabet i don't know what will.

  • sooo groovvvyyy... awww!!! thanks for sharing... :)

  • Best alphabet song I ever heard! RIP Lena Horne

  • NOTE: The Fat Blue Muppet is NOT Mr. Johnson from the Waiter Grover sketches. Mr. Johnson was voiced by Jerry Nelson; this Fat Blue was voiced by Jim Henson.

  • I love it! Every time I see this woman my heart just swells. Now ths is the real Muppet that I'm used to seeing.

  • RIP, Lena!

  • RIP LENA HORNE

  • I think this time period was before they started adding annoying puppets to the show, like Elmo for example. I know he wasn't on there when I was a kid, not that I remember. He really gets on my nerves! One of my favorites has always been The Count!

  • Furthermore, you can tell the time is the 70's cause the muppets have a groovy look to them. I like the orange dude with the pink nose and the blue guy. lol I was born in the early 80's but as i got older i fell in love with the style and feel of the 70's.

  • This is the funkiest version of the ABCs I've ever heard. Oldschool is the truth!! RIP Ms. Horne. You helped me teach my children the ABCs. Than you up above from down below. :D

  • taught my daughter her alphabet by mimicking Lena - gotta love it...

  • Nothing tops Old school Sesame Street!

    Elmo can go to hell.

  • I take it the pumpkin muppet along with the lavender woman muppet were played by Frank Oz?

  • how can some one 'dislike' this video?

  • I love Ms. Horne.

  • Is that Danny on drums?

  • Wow, she was a class act. Love Lena, love Sesame Street. Great combination and a classic clip!

  • My 2 year young daughter loves and learns from this, just as I did back in the 1970s.

  • she's beautiful

  • I can't stop smiling at this:) I love her:)

  • This is Groovy !

  • Modulated from Bb to C. Nice touch.

  • Let me see if I can identify the cast... I am good at this....

    Jim Henson- fat blue

Frank Oz-Pumpkin Orange AM, Magenta little girl, Mother

Jerry Nelson-Green Little Boy, Magenta Boy

  • I remember this on a video I used to have: "Learning About Letters."

  • is that a Dr. Phil muppet?

  • Dr. Phil wasn't even around then!

  • he's almost 60 years old so he was around but back then, he was probably just Regular Phil.

  • @NEUDude Dr. Philll might have been a baby himself back then.

  • @NEUDude Dr. Philll might have been a baby himself back then.

  • that website (mp4ify) is actually very awesome for ripping mp3s and mp4s from youtube videos like this

  • Lena Horne is so cute!

  • Who could say that woman was 58 in that moment? ABSOLUTELY NOBODY!!!!!!

  • I can to it's Jim Henson's voice. It's too bad he is no longer with us, but I'm glad Sesame Street is around, and I hope Disney figures out that The Muppets were made for adults, unlike SS. Bohemian Rhapsody was great. Pleas keep working with Disney and with Sesame Workshop, and Long live Muppets!

  • a suggestion I read for handwashing the proper length of time is to sing the alphabet song while doing it...this is the version i sing lol..

  • lol, who is john calhoun? lmbo!!

  • lena horne was so good and the characters were jsut so funny i grew up on this it was aroung 1975 76 somewhere in there id watch it everyday this really takes me back so funny this is when sesame street was really good the original great video abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz now i know my abcs wont you come and sing with me ? whhooo hooooo soooo funn lol

  • This is just plain AWSOME!!! I remember this clip was even mentioned when Lena Horne guest starred on The Cosby Show.

  • did yal know she is a descendent of the president john calhoun?

  • There was no president named John Calhoun

  • @jrock428 She's referring to Vice President John Calhoun who served under President John Adams

  • @Mishie715 you mean Vice President John Calhoun.

  • Lena Horne is on top with Patti Labelle, Lena song this song perfect, any child listen to this can learn their alphabets. Thanks Lena Horne

  • This and Patti Labelle are the best so far.....

  • Ahh, the memories.... :)

  • This song is also seen on the video "Learning About Letters".

  • I love this song. Lena makes this her own. She has pretty shiny brown eyes that sparkle which make her and her performances extra special. Lena is a rreally good entertainer to. I wish I could meet Lena. She has a woderful beaming smile and a cute laugh. I hope I can see her in concert in Hull soon so she can sing this song, It's Not Easy Being Green and How Do You Do. She should reliase them as singles and put them on her new album if she's bringing on our. Lena is my favourite ever singer.

  • highly educational

  • Lena Horne and The Muppets certainly did a great job of singing the Alphabet together, don't you think?

  • That's great!

  • I love Lena Horne, but she kinda scares me sometime

  • Why is that?

  • omg this was how i learnt the alphabet! i had this on video and i used to get told off cause i said "zee" instead of "zed" - its automatic i still do it!

  • yes

  • isn't this the guy that grover always makes angry in the diner? I love those waiter sketches.

  • Yes, that's Fat Blue himself - those sketches were favorites of mine as well!

  • That's his twin brother.

  • @freddyfan62

I don't think that's Mr. Johnson; the voice is different.

  • very old. Theire in their 35th season already.

  • Try nearly 40

  • .. cool song... how old is this show?

  • This was probably from 1975 or before. I can remember seeing this when I was about two or three years old and that was in 1975/76.

  • 40 years old last November 10, 2009. (the show).
