This game is pretty strange to me. I wanted a cool mechgame well this is... dont know. Its very bland, the stages the enemys, its not fun to play like (never played REAL mechgames before - can only compare non-mechgames) Zone of the Enders or like the VS in Lost Planet 1 - 2. I only play the missions to get credits and spend hours in menus to upgrade and tune the AC. Well maybe because its a simgame... dont know.

Although I've played most of the previous games, my field of knowledge is mostly limited to AC4. If however, you decide to play that, there are several simple but ambiguous tricks that make piloting easier.
@daredevil12131 The pilots of the NEXTs are in hydro-chambers filled with water, to completely reduce the G-force of moving at over 1000km/h, and the Normals... I'm not sure. the MTs are drones.
@daredevil12131 MTs are the abbreviations for Muscle Tracers. this technology is also used for the Armored Cores, it's just that MTs are less armored, and armed, and customization isn't as great as Armored Cores, but aspiring Ravens, I assume, must pilot an MT of a sort. The reason "You" start off as a Raven from the start of the AC games is because every person has their own skills, and MTs only go so far.
@daredevil12131 if your question meant "how are MTs piloted" then it depends on the model. The ones in the above video are GARQ9's and are autonomous drones, but the most common ones in game are MAMLUKs and have a small crew like a tank.
@MP3videos I think the main reason the player starts as a Raven is because the game is called "Armored Core" not "Muscle Tracer." The staple of an AC is its core and modular construction, which MT's generally lack. Besides, the only reason the player is a Raven in this game is because he used to pilot Normals
@Release890 What I posted was in terms of storyline reasons. Yeah, I know that the game's called Armored Core, and that's what you pilot, but I stated in-game storyline aspects of why you start off as a Raven.
@MP3videos i wasn't criticising your answer, its hard to convey tone through text. The reason you start as a Raven (gameplay wise) is because its called AC not MT. The reason story wise is because the player character used to pilot Normals before becoming a LINX
@Release890 I haven't played 4, or 4A yet, so my knowladge was as far as the AC3-Last Raven games. TBQH, I think the new Armored Core games are beautiful, but my piloting skills are worse than a newb piloting an MT. No joke.
@MP3videos that could be because of the new control systems, or because piloting a NEXT is more about rapid finger work and fast reaction times rather than strategy. The first time I played, my first instinct was to modify the controls the make the bumpers the fire buttons. DON'T. It was so much easier just leaving them as the default Config A (not Simple A)... Unless you were talking about ur piloting skills for a Normal AC.
@Release890 My piloting skills for the Normal ACs. If I were to be in control of an MT, I'd be out of a job, and any chance of becoming a Raven. Unless I'm more like Eclair (AC3:Silent Line) And I do better with bladed ACs. One of my Raven AC models is a Reverse-Joint dual blade mech that has the Noblesse' back parts. (After all, can't call it a Raven without their wings) which I call "Spirit Raven"
Anyways, I'm practicing against Nineball Seraph in AC2AA, practicing on highly mobile units.
@SilverKing56 its only fan speculation that NEXT pilots are in hydro-chambers to reduce G-forces. Another theory is that the AMS itself possesses some sort of enertial dampener. But most likely, its just creative licence and real physics are ignored.

Aah, the great NEXT brought down by 'you' in Armored Core 4. It's pilot, Berlioz, with his NEXT, Supplice, Armed with a 051ANNR rifle, (Right Handed Rifle) and a 04-Marve (Left Handed Assault Rifle). Grenade Cannon on its left back, Ogoto, and flares by BFF on his shoulders. A heavy, and energy consuming indeed, but very affective.

04-MARVE is cool because of two things. To the uninitiated, it looks like a Gunblade (not the FF one, but a general sword+gun thing). To AC fans, it looks like a heavily modified KARASAWA, except in Assault Rifle form.
My only complaint, why oh why does it have so little ammo? :<

@MP3videos I think the main reason the player starts as a Raven is because the game is called "Armored Core" not "Muscle Tracer." The staple of an AC is its core and modular construction, which MT's generally lack. Besides, the only reason the player is a Raven in this game is because he used to pilot Normals

@Release890 What I posted was in terms of storyline reasons. Yeah, I know that the game's called Armored Core, and that's what you pilot, but I stated in-game storyline aspects of why you start off as a Raven.

@MP3videos i wasn't criticising your answer, its hard to convey tone through text. The reason you start as a Raven (gameplay wise) is because its called AC not MT. The reason story wise is because the player character used to pilot Normals before becoming a LINX

@Release890 I haven't played 4, or 4A yet, so my knowladge was as far as the AC3-Last Raven games. TBQH, I think the new Armored Core games are beautiful, but my piloting skills are worse than a newb piloting an MT. No joke.

@MP3videos that could be because of the new control systems, or because piloting a NEXT is more about rapid finger work and fast reaction times rather than strategy. The first time I played, my first instinct was to modify the controls the make the bumpers the fire buttons. DON'T. It was so much easier just leaving them as the default Config A (not Simple A)... Unless you were talking about ur piloting skills for a Normal AC.

@Release890 My piloting skills for the Normal ACs. If I were to be in control of an MT, I'd be out of a job, and any chance of becoming a Raven. Unless I'm more like Eclair (AC3:Silent Line) And I do better with bladed ACs. One of my Raven AC models is a Reverse-Joint dual blade mech that has the Noblesse' back parts. (After all, can't call it a Raven without their wings) which I call "Spirit Raven"
Anyways, I'm practicing against Nineball Seraph in AC2AA, practicing on highly mobile units.

@SilverKing56 its only fan speculation that NEXT pilots are in hydro-chambers to reduce G-forces. Another theory is that the AMS itself possesses some sort of enertial dampener. But most likely, its just creative licence and real physics are ignored.

@SilverKing56 and if you're not sure about the Normals, you can look at previous games in the series. In the opening of AC2 you can see the interior of a normal AC, as well as in the opening of AC3

Judging from previous comments / questions, people seem to be confused about whats happening in this scene (or the story overall) but if anyone's actually interested I can clear up just about any misunderstandings about this game. Seriously, I have enough geek-power to tell you the names of each of the enemy MT's and such. Tremble before my encyclopedic knowledge of Armored Core 4!

Aah, the great NEXT brought down by 'you' in Armored Core 4. It's pilot, Berlioz, with his NEXT, Supplice, Armed with a 051ANNR rifle, (Right Handed Rifle) and a 04-Marve (Left Handed Assault Rifle). Grenade Cannon on its left back, Ogoto, and flares by BFF on his shoulders. A heavy, and energy consuming indeed, but very affective.
Btw, anyone notice the blood splatter at 2:31 ?
Look at his Marve, the blood violently flows through his weapon.

04-MARVE is cool because of two things. To the uninitiated, it looks like a Gunblade (not the FF one, but a general sword+gun thing). To AC fans, it looks like a heavily modified KARASAWA, except in Assault Rifle form.
My only complaint, why oh why does it have so little ammo? :<

I do however play for Answer and there are quite some design doctrine differences between the two.
