Why do people say that Hong Kongers and Macau folks care? Like Chinese people don't care who controls them. If everyone has a place to live and a table with food, nobody cares. When I went to Hong Kong, Hong Kong was the same exact Hong Kong, except there are no Union Jack flags. For Macau, it is a totally different story. What interest do the Portuguese have in Macau? They never had much interest in the place when they ran it - if the Movimento de Forças Armadas had had its way, Macau would have been handed back to China in 1975!

Most Macanese didn't speak Portuguese then and they certainly don't speak it now. If the Portuguese interest in Macau were that great, TAP would still have direct flights from Lisbon, discontinued after two years due to lack of demand.
