i think i read in melody maker that joe strummer (in 1980) said that he would only listen to the ramones if he was tied down to a chair. i guess he grew up a lot.
I watched Rudeboy the other night and could not believe the concert footage of the Clash from '77-'79 before coming to the states. Joe Strummer has to be one of the best frontman in R&R history. He had incredible stage presence.
Strummer was an articulate and intelligent guy as well as an important figure iin Rock n Roll hands down. It wasn't just rock with The Clash and the Ramones. It was true art.
@greenbay357 it sounds beyond "doped". 0:39, he really looks like he has some mental condition. It may be because of all the years of drug abuse and illness, I don't think he was just doped
The great Joe Strummer crammed alot into his short life.I've read a few books on Joe.He's my favorite Rock Star or Punk Rock Warlord.Warts and all Joe was a super talented sweetheart of a guy.Never let his fans down.My friend owns a restaurant in Manhattan.Joe used to come in quite often. My friend had a large vinyl collection.Joe signed every Clash album he had and told a story about each one.At the time i owned a club in Philly. Its a big regret of mine that i didnt get the chance to meet him.
Everyone, I have made a video about boy bands and the music buisness and talking about underground music. You TUbe have tried to dissable the sound but I put the text in the "Description" box under the screen. Please come and check it out! "Boy Band Video" it's called.
Joe the thinker...I'm surprised he never wrote books. Dee dee's great...shame he did so much ...stuff...we could all benefit from these two ppl still being around...not mummified ! aha aahaha
Dee Dee - funny as always, and for some reason it always surprises me how much sense he's always spoken, even during the days of his airhead act
Joe Strummer....brilliant, brilliant man, it's awesome to see someone like him be so humble and give credit where it's due...and his philosophising...makes me respect him even more...
The way joe Strummer speaks about playing rock and roll explains a lot about the terrific performances on stage by the Clash.
Listening to Dee Dee makes me sad. Being in a big band often sucks the life out a person. And there's so many examples of that... Makes us fans feel like we're the parasites.
Is so depressing that everyone in this video, and everyone they talked about is dead... I love these two, you can see how punk rock is really for everyone, the goofy big kid and the super smart political guy, both with a talent to get in peoples heads and become legends.
Joe is relating some good advice for bands to follow here. Get in get out quickly, nail your set and songs down, and show unity. he's relating some very congent observations about the power of a band and how to tap into it.
il parle de joe strummer, l'exacte opposé de ce poseur de dee dee ramone, junkie fini, dans tous les sens du terme!! legende incomprehensible du rock, et accent new yorkais à chier!! puis le grand joe, la classe des classe!!
Any band who says they are unable to compliment the Beatles are music history illiterate or liars. Joe knew the Beatles were influential and in some way or another made an impact on his career.
Though if that was a compliment, it wasn't an obvious one. :]
