I remember riding my first roller coaster there when I was in the fifth grade...rode it twice. It was a rush since it was my first time. Really sad to see the Pavillion shut down, it was the "go to" place at one time.!!
I am so upset right now. One of my favorite movies was Shag and ever since I watched it i had always wanted to visit Myrtle Beach and see the pavillion in person and that was all taken away from me in 2006. Now I just watch the movie and dream of the day I would have made it their to have fun.
What the heak? I just learned that they tore down the Pavillion. I use to go to that Pavillion when I was a little kid, and my parents would take us to Myrlte Beach. I just got married and me and the hubby are supposed to be heading to Myrtle Beach this year and I was going to take him to that park since I had such great memories there. How sad that it is gone:(
Pavillion will always be better than the new hardrock park,Woopadedoo Hardrock park has a bigger ammount of people,Look at people now since the Pavillion is gone,EVERYONE I Know misses that place,And i do too,Its stupid that they took it out,and now all that land is just empty,When that land could be a happy place people can hangout at and ride rides,i want the pavillion back and not just that little bit of it and Broadway at the beach i want that empty land where the Pavillion use to be full!
this video made me cry myrtle beach is my hometown and the pavilion held some of my fondest memories and when they tore it down its like they tore down a piece of home
@BigMattMoney Nope. Myrtle Beach Pavilion was on Ocean Blvd, right by the Ripley's Believe It or Not (if you go there now, it's nothing but a large empty lot with "No Trespassing" signs on the perimeter). Hard Rock / Freestyle Music Park is about seven minutes away on Hwy 501 right by Medieval Times and the old Waccamaw shops.
This video made my heart sink. I've been going to the Pavilion since I was a child in the 1980's. (Remember the original haunted house with the huge skeleton head and slow moving fingers??) I'm going back home to NC in 4 days and we're going to spend a weekend in Myrtle Beach - I will CRY when I look at the barren land that once was the Pavilion. Thank you for this memorable video.

Now that you have returned from MBSC, how did you feel? I was there last summer, and it broke my heart. I was there 4th of July weekend and didn't see a single "No Vacancy" sign. Not one. On the busiest weekend of the year. The boardwalk and Pavillion area, once bumper to bumper with cars and a**hole to elbow with pedestrians, was almost desolate.
I came here every year from 1978-1997. I miss old Myrtle!
Returned from MB 2 weeks ago and it was packed, and was somewhat hard to find an ocean view room for 3 nights. As lame as it sounds, my eyes teared up when we drove past the empty grassy lot that was the Pavilion. I went to Family Kingdom twice during my stay and it will just never compare. I had started going to the Pavilion in 1982 when I was 2 yrs old. I have pictures of me on the carousel, refusing to let go..I apparently rode all day. I'm with you - missing the old Myrtle.
this amusement park was my whold childhood. i went there every year that i went to myrtle beach and i loved it sooo much and now every summer when i go and see the ruins of this place it is SOOOO sad! i miss it sooo much!
I have so many pictures of being there every single year since I was born. Stuffed animals, pictures of my family. So much memories were made there and now-- Nothing.
Everything sucks now. So many great memories gone. We are losing our innocence and becoming a bunch of dumb, lazy, boring idiots who would rather sit on our fat asses and play video games than have an actual experience. I'm glad I grew up in the 70s and had a chance to experience the classic American childhood.
So many memories. As I was growing up, we spent a week in Long Beach North Carolina, and one day each year we'd set aside a day to go down to Myrtle Beach and enjoy the Pavilion and other attractions there. Happiest times of my life, and the memories in my mind of the fun I had with my family, and with members of my family no longer with me. Thanks for the memories, Pavilion, your rides will run forever in my heart.
Nicely done video, very sad. We drove from Canada to MB every March break as kids, then my brother and I brought our kids in 2002. Glad they got to see it before they tore it down. The reason for closing was economic (=too cold in the winter to run 12 months a year) so why did they open another park at Broadway at the Beach? Both sites (vacant Pavilion site and BATB) are owned by Burroughs & Chapin... now the new park closed too. MB gov. & investors could have stepped in to save the Pavilion
We went for my daughters birthday party the last weekend of operation. I couldn't help but to cry. I had the best time as a teenager working for Gene Hudson Life Guard Services. Taking different girls every night to the park and seeing SugarCreek at the Magic Attic.
And who remembers the short black lady at the kids ride "frogger" always blowing her whistle as the ride would be going up and down. :-)
the worst part is that when the pavilion went down they were originally going to build condos but the stupid people who developed the land did not check and the land was not suitable for condos so now that land sits empty all the happiness that was once there and is now gone is so sad i hate it so much
Oh my goodness! I didn't know they had closed it! Last time I was there in 2004. Had my first kiss there. Added many a wad of chewing gum to the log flume wall!!!
They closed on my birthday. :( I remember riding the wooden coaster with my Dad and he was physically hurting afterward....we decided to ride it again!!!! Good times.
Sorry, but your mom is incorrect. It's a popular misconception. The simple fact of the matter is the Pavilion wasn't bringing in the money. They shot themselves in the foot when they tried to go "pay one price" and they never recovered. The property was owned by a real estate company that believed they could make the spot more economically feasible, but that just wasn't the case.
After all, if the park made money why would they close it down in 2006 when Hard Rock didn't open until 2008?
Your absolutely right, but you have to understand this. They were making killer money, but the park grew so much in ride size that it made this little few-ride atraction on the beach (which requires per-ride fee's) an actual theme park. The owners realized this and decided to operate on the same basis an a massive theme park.
Now, family fun center, with the woodie roller costr and log flume will have to make the decision as well, giving they grow in rides.
@mulchpuppy ..I lived in Myrtle Beach from 1995 until 2001, & it was a known fact even as far back as the late 1990's that the Pavilion's time was limited. I believe Burroughs & Chapin owned the land(& most of MB) & they were lookin at putting up condos & hotels was the talk back then. I haven't been in a few years so I haven't seen what they actually put there, other than the boardwalk, which I've seen on youtube. Myrtle Beach will NEVER be the same without the Pavilion!!
@ThemeParkSushi .....well that sux out loud!! Before I moved there in 1995, we started goin to Myrtle Beach in 1986 & we always stayed 4 blocks south of the Pavillion & walked to it. Never went to the Magic Kingdom.....just the Pavillion. LOVED the Rainbow ride.....lookin out over the ocean. Such a shame that GREED took away one of the BEST things about Myrtle Beach.
I miss pavillion so much it hurts my heart! Everything was so great there! Did you hear there going to make condos in that area?? So sad right??? Check out my channel!! Also leave comments!!!
@Myrtlebeachmemories you kno what the sad thing is?? ...there isnt anything there except for a few palm trees!! ..no condos no nothing ..just a little sign telling about the pavilion like it was some ancient artifact
I grew up down there and it really hurts my heart that one of the death nails of the park was the "New Shiny" Hard Rock Park and then it died and became something else which is just as crappy and never really was developed into the correct replacement. Just gonna kinda stink when my Niece and Nephew grow up and they don't have something similar to go to.
I hate it when I see that ANOTHER traditional family park closes down...and let me tell you I have seen and read about many of them. In addition to what Rodneywrc8 said about the changing times, the fact is that more and more people are staying home with their big screen TVs, playing on the internet, playing with their PS2s and Wii's. So less people go to parks and the cost to run them increases. The 'sue happy' U.S. society doesn't help either.
So one by one all the old traditional parks are disappearing and many unique roller coasters go with them. If you want these parks, you are going to have to get up off your bum and support them. These parks need you. Otherwise, if this trend continues one day you will wake up and realize all these wonderful places will be gone and will only be memories. It is a sad shame.
This video just goes to show what direction our country is heading in, poor economy, loss of jobs, companies closing up and going over seas and across the boarder. Businesses like these and many others will go the way of the buffalo, it truly is sad.
WASHINGTON WAKE UP!! Bring jobs back to our country, stop giving our nation away, put people back to work so we can a good life once more.
Wow! I can't believe it took over two years for someone to figure out exactly what we were trying to say with this video!! Good job! I thought the message was too subtle, but I guess I was wrong.
@rodneywrc8 NO MONEY spent on foreign goods. Our national salvation will be people working in home shops designing the things America needs instead of putting what little we have into foreign pockets. How many people in your neighborhood can't even come up with a simple idea for better tools made in local machineshops. We can do it we only have to redesign everyday items for sale. You may have to begin in a local Flea Mkt/farmers mkt; large, multiple yard sales. We CAN recover. You are the way!
@aellarex If things truly improve in the USA some day it will most likely have to be a grass-roots movement for sure, because our lying ass politicians won't do a damn thing to try and bring back our jobs. It's time for a revolt....
This video almost makes me cry every time I watch it.....me and my brother went here every year from the time we were 4 till it's destruction in 06....this is an awesome video and I want to give a huge thumbs up to the creator
I miss this place SO very much! It was a true staple of Myrtle Beach. Although I still love Myrtle Beach I feel something deep in my heart is missing! THIS VIDEO EXPLAINS THAT feeling better than any other pavilion tribute! You did an EXCELLENT job! A++++++
Sadly, this was the last weekend that the Pavillion was open. There were so many memories of not only my childhood, but the memories that I have with my daughter at this wonderful place. The only sad thing about growing older is living through the changes that our eyes see during our lifetime. Thank you for this video.
they have the big pirate ship a little pirate ship tea cups 2 lil' truck rides a lil' boat ride the merry go round the cattapillar and the wave swinger ride it's 3 dollars per ticket and each ride is one ticket or for 20 dollars 9 tickets thats what i allways get
It still hurts that the P is not there anymore. The corkscrew was my first upside down rollercoaster with my father holding me. It's surprising how a small moment in time, and mean so much some 20 years later.
im just glad ive gotten 2 go there once but it is sad though i was little so could only ride the little ride any one who went there could love tht park
i didnt almost cry, i did cry, cuz i work on that bulivard, they should rename it from ocean bulivard to bulivard of broken dreams, cuz everytime i look down that street, all i see is this big empty space, and i feel an empty space in my heart R.I.P pavillion, july 5 around 6:30 to 7:00 pm, i will b standing in the middle of that open field were the pavilion used to be to remember the good times that the pavillion used to bring. if anyone cares to join me, i will be standing there for 5 miniutes
OMG this vid brought tears to my eyes 21 yrs. going everyyyyyyy summer.. having a sunburn from going to the beach.. wacthing the cockroaches on the organ things!!!! old timey cars... Funnel cakes.. SOO Many memories
Man....I've been going to myrtle beach now for 25 years and it sux the pavilion is not there anymore. I was there 1 month before they tore it down and I still look for it every year coming in on 501. :(
THANK YOU!! I got to see my favorite place in the world one last time....I didn't even know they had torn it down. I'm from Mighigan-1st generation-my grandparents, parents, and I grew up going to the Pavilion-and my son went in2005....that's 4 generations!!!! It will be in our hearts always:)
It is - "Who Wants to Live Forever," made famous from its usage in the first Highlander film. You can get it on the "Classic Queen" CD, which really should be required by law to own.
nice vid. but wow how sad growin up and loving this place, and then see it just leave, man i just cant get over it, how dumb could the owner have been to shut it down, ill never froget the pavilion, but Myrtle Beach just wont ever be just the same.
Thank you for this video. I would love a copy! My 73 year old father who remembers the pavilion opening in 1948, broke down when he watched this! All the memories of his childhood, honeymoon and my childhood. Memories that my little girl, will never know. How sad. Myrtle Beach is still a wonderful place....but there is a little less magic on ocean blvd now.
This is an amazing video. I cry when I see it. I think of the wonderful memories that I have of being a small child, having fun with my parents. Then, all of the fun my daughter and I had at the Pavilion. It's so sad to know it's gone. I am so lucky to have some wonderful videos made throughout my daughter's 11 years. We will never forget the Pavilion, and all of the magical memories it has given us.
Although Hard Rock Park and The Pavilion were not "related" how ironic that at the time Hard Park was a twinkle in the eyes of our planners and the developers, that twinkle was a tear in the eyes of those watching the Pavilion succumb to demolition. And now 1-1/2 years later, Hard Rock Park, as we know it, is gone forever, and so is the Pavilion. Who went out with a mightier, more magnificent display of splendor? Which will live on in our memories forever?
Wow - a great video and great choice for the music - I, too, started getting teary-eyed watching the transition to demolition. It's been almost 2 years and I still get angry every time I ride by and see those vacant lots.
Still can't understand how it had to be destroyed? If I have financial difficulty do I burn down my house? The town of Myrtle Beach should never have allowed this major landmark to be destroyed. I wonder what corporate wheels were turning in the back in the back ground to have this park destroyed? Who benefited from this disaster? What a loss for Myrtle Beach. Just another loss for our nation, when will we wake up?
WOW i WAS JUST UP THERE IN 08 AND THEY STILL HAVENT DONE ANYTHING TO REPLACE THAT. IT WAS MY FIRST TIME THERE AND I WISH THEY WOULD HAVE LEFT IT THERE CAUSE I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO VISIT. I REALLY MISSED SOMETHING GREAT. PEOPLE OF MYRTLE BEACH MAKE THEM PUT ANOTHER PLACE LIKE THAT UP. IT'S A SWEET TOUCH TO MYRTLE BEACH. AND YOU GUY'S ARE THE BEST THERE THE PEOPLE ARE REALLY NICE!
Great job with the video! You did some very good editing here. I remember going to the Pavillion twice, only when I was little. I haven't been since. Did not realize they had torn it down.
wow, I actually got a little teary watching this. I started going to Myrtle Beach and The Pavilion when still in my mothers womb. I am almost 30 and not a year has gone by that I haven't gone for a week every summer.
I honestly never thought about a time when it wouldn't be around. It is so sad to me that I won't be able to share such an amazing place with my children. I will never be able to give them the kinds of memories The Pavilion gave me. I think that makes me the saddest.
I agree because hum.. its way better then hard rock park i didnt like hard rock park that well... and the funny thing is now that hard rock park might get shut down for good.. lol
yeah it relle did horrible, it was only open for like 2 months, and it had 2 file for chapter 11 bankruptcy. im sorry but i like in nj 45 minutes away from six flags. on my vacation id rather go to something like the pavillion, which holds 58 years of memories. o well =(
I was there this past summer and was at a time share presentation. They said they were part of the Pavillion being destroyed. They said that it was hardly used in it's last years and the crime rate rose, but if you talk to the "Real" people of Myrtle Beach, they said it didn't go down-hill untill they tore the Pavillion down. They just wanted to room so they could build their greedy condo's and crap, which they still haven't done, the lot is still empty!
I can't believe people actually believe that the two events are related. The closing of the Pavilion was a business decision that had absolutely nothing to do with Hard Rock Park.
Nice video. Sorry you guys lost your park. We just lost Geauga Lake up here. Whats going on with all these places closing? Soon there won't be any park to visit except the overpriced Cedar Fair & Six Flags parks.
the pavilion was the most fun in MB im from asheville and every year when we were down there we made a trip there, it was if not The exciting thing to do.
I agree. I can't believe the Pavilion is gone. I spent a lot of time in there as a kid and also after I graduated from high school. And, it was also fun to ride past the Pavilion at night in the car and see it all lit up and beautiful!
i miss the pavillon omg i can't belive it me and my cousin my grandma and gradpa went there a went to the pavilion im not from SC i cant belive it it was so funn
That was a very well put together video. Living here, I never got there much, but do share some good memories. The history there was great, but what bugged me is the hype they had over the new Rollercoaster "Hurricane: Category 5 ", in function for about 5 years I think, and its all gone now.
Funny little side note, most of the parts not put in the Nostalgia Park at Broadway at the Beach or sold at auction, is stored behind Nascar Speedpark
MB has enough apartments and hotels! They didnt need to close the Pavilion for that crap! Who ever is incharge of building the new condos should be ashamed!
Mann... i went there when i was around 11 pavilion everything and now 14 yrs old we had a basketball tournament and all it was down there was all scrap and metal just big junk field it was sad but atleast i went to the pavilion for one time
i remeber goin there every holiday or weekend and just driving from our house on the beach to the pavillion and then when i rode the hurricane for the last time i cried i hade my first kiss last year when i was eleven there! i cry when i pass by it but now when we go to broadway at the beach i get on the rides and funnel cakes and try not to cry! please dont go is what i thought when tthey tore it down. all i have is my memories and those who havent ben there missed a treat!
i'll sure miss the hurricane. i've probably ridden it 100+ times. i was there like 2 days before it closed for good, i bought a shirt :( im sad to see it gone
For sure, made me real sad-feeling inside. With the Hurricane gone, it's like it was, well, somewhat when the CorkScrew sat there all of those years. Do some of you remember the CorkScrew?, it went upside down 2 times over the entrance. I rode it 30 times in a row one summer afternoon before sunset. After the 30th time, i was getting a bit nausiated from the 2 loops it had.
im i 14 years old and i would have to say that brought tears to my eyes. i was going on thoes rides since i was a young boy, the last time i went there they were taking apart the ride that i always went on. i cant believe that they are puting condos in there, i will never forget thoes times i will make a video(s) when i go in march 08, i go every year.
We've been to the beach a few times since the Pavilion was shut down. We're going back over the Thanksgiving Holidays but it's just not the same without the Pavilion! It used to be the first thing we see when we get into Myrtle Beach! We miss it!
i remember this place...it was paradise, when i saw them tear it down,i cried.
they have recently said they might build a zipline at the old site.
they may as well rebuild the whole place.i really hope they do.

Truckerfun01 9 months ago
@Truckerfun01 Unfortunately, that's the ultimate joke. The Pavilion site is still nothing but a vacant lot surrounded by NO TRESPASSING signs.
ThemeParkSushi 9 months ago
@ThemeParkSushi .....well that sux out loud!! Before I moved there in 1995, we started goin to Myrtle Beach in 1986 & we always stayed 4 blocks south of the Pavillion & walked to it. Never went to the Magic Kingdom.....just the Pavillion. LOVED the Rainbow ride.....lookin out over the ocean. Such a shame that GREED took away one of the BEST things about Myrtle Beach.
Truckerfun01 9 months ago
I miss pavillion so much it hurts my heart! Everything was so great there! Did you hear there going to make condos in that area?? So sad right??? Check out my channel!! Also leave comments!!!

shelleyjeffers14 1 year ago
@Myrtlebeachmemories you kno what the sad thing is?? ...there isnt anything there except for a few palm trees!! ..no condos no nothing ..just a little sign telling about the pavilion like it was some ancient artifact
SpaceDetergentPM 2 days ago

The 'sue happy' U.S. society doesn't help either.
jukingeo 2 years ago

What so you?
rodneywrc8 2 years ago 7
Wow! I can't believe it took over two years for someone to figure out exactly what we were trying to say with this video!! Good job! I thought the message was too subtle, but I guess I was wrong.
(seriously, dude. Switch to decaf)
mulchpuppy 2 years ago
@rodneywrc8 NO MONEY spent on foreign goods. Our national salvation will be people working in home shops designing the things America needs instead of putting what little we have into foreign pockets. How many people in your neighborhood can't even come up with a simple idea for better tools made in local machineshops. We can do it we only have to redesign everyday items for sale. You may have to begin in a local Flea Mkt/farmers mkt; large, multiple yard sales. We CAN recover. You are the way!
aellarex 1 year ago
@aellarex If things truly improve in the USA some day it will most likely have to be a grass-roots movement for sure, because our lying ass politicians won't do a damn thing to try and bring back our jobs. It's time for a revolt....

BTW...NO OFFENSE...Hard Rock Park sucks Balls compared to the wonderful amazing memorable HISTORIC (demolished) Pavilion.

Sadly, this was the last weekend that the Pavillion was open. There were so many memories of not only my childhood, but the memories that I have with my daughter at this wonderful place. The only sad thing about growing older is living through the changes that our eyes see during our lifetime. Thank you for this video.

nice vid. but wow how sad growin up and loving this place, and then see it just leave, man i just cant get over it, how dumb could the owner have been to shut it down, ill never froget the pavilion, but Myrtle Beach just wont ever be just the same.

We will never forget the Pavilion, and all of the magical memories it has given us.
jbolton1969 2 years ago
Although Hard Rock Park and The Pavilion were not "related" how ironic that at the time Hard Park was a twinkle in the eyes of our planners and the developers, that twinkle was a tear in the eyes of those watching the Pavilion succumb to demolition. And now 1-1/2 years later, Hard Rock Park, as we know it, is gone forever, and so is the Pavilion. Who went out with a mightier, more magnificent display of splendor? Which will live on in our memories forever?
lilseaster1955 2 years ago
Wow - a great video and great choice for the music - I, too, started getting teary-eyed watching the transition to demolition. It's been almost 2 years and I still get angry every time I ride by and see those vacant lots.

Still can't understand how it had to be destroyed? If I have financial difficulty do I burn down my house? The town of Myrtle Beach should never have allowed this major landmark to be destroyed. I wonder what corporate wheels were turning in the back in the back ground to have this park destroyed? Who benefited from this disaster? What a loss for Myrtle Beach. Just another loss for our nation, when will we wake up?
jonequest82 3 years ago
AND YOU GUY'S ARE THE BEST THERE THE PEOPLE ARE REALLY NICE!

maybe something like it, but nothing can replace it. ever. it's gone forever and that really saddens me.
oh, by the way FUCK YOU MYRTLE BEACH FOR LETTING THEM TEAR IT DOWN!!!
gamingfan1989 2 years ago 2
Great job with the video! You did some very good editing here. I remember going to the Pavillion twice, only when I was little. I haven't been since. Did not realize they had torn it down.
normharris 3 years ago
wow, I actually got a little teary watching this.

IF you visited Myrtle Beach, that was a huge part of the experience. We need to get a new Pavillion in it's place.
larrystarstruck 3 years ago
I was there this past summer and was at a time share presentation. They said they were part of the Pavillion being destroyed. They said that it was hardly used in it's last years and the crime rate rose, but if you talk to the "Real" people of Myrtle Beach, they said it didn't go down-hill untill they tore the Pavillion down. They just wanted to room so they could build their greedy condo's and crap, which they still haven't done, the lot is still empty!
