  • Thanks. I often think about the lyrics of this song and I'm still wondering if RJ intended this as a serious song or tongue-in-cheek humour. As the years go by, I'm favouring the latter. I'd be glad to know what others think....

  • nice. getting ready to record a version of this piece of American history myself. i was planning on adding blues harp and some piano so this helps a lot. you were spot on my friend. thanks for the inspiration and keep posting vids.

  • @MRCALIfornyay Thanks for your generous comment! Yes, we know for sure that RJ died in 1938. His friend, Honeyboy Edwards, who is still alive and lucid, was there at the time.

  • U'r welcome Bob! It stil isnt enough credit. Wich tunning is that? An open D?

    Groetjes daar ;) Frans.

  • Hi Frans, No, it's standard tuning in the key of A, using D7 shapes

    Cheers, Bob

  • Then i presume the harp is in d? Open tunnings are difficult to play man! Honors for you my friend . You sing play harp and guitar, ahwell gives me a goal to rach for ;) thanks and nice hat. I have the same hahaha greetz ;)

  • Hi Frans. Yes it's a D harp. I like playing open tunings, especially open G. If you look at my youtube video of Maggie Campbell Blues you will see me playing open G

    Best wishes, Bob

  • I used to play it in standard, key of A for a long time, but these days I'm really not so sure anymore. See my video response for an open G tuning interpretation of the guitar part.

  • Is that a Gibson L1?

  • No, it's an LG2

    Best wishes, Bob

  • That was great, thanks for sharing. (love the hat)

  • Thanks....I love playing the blues...

  • You play basss string E only in first part??

  • No, in the first 4 bars my thumb is hitting the A string
