@Ladsch Just to note, the regular stabilization system on the XR520V uses an optical stabilization system, which theoretically shouldn't result in loss of image quality. The Active mode may use some digital stabilization in conjunction with OIS, however, so you may notice image degradation as a result.
@AlainHubert believe it or not, i have used both this camera and the Panasonic HDC-TM700, and ive tested both. Sony came out on top, not by much, but the stabilization and overall quality video and audio was better on the sony.

Too bad Sony has no plan on making consumer camcorder with 24p record mode...

@VTWHK: Get the Panasonic HDC-TM300. It has that (called "Cinema") and a viewfinder. It has better low light performance than Sony too.

This feature has pulled me through many shaky situations. I don't really use a tripod anymore becuase it works so good.

I must agree Sony's stabilization is amazing!

@fhatsumura
Yes it's quite good, but I think the Panasonic HDC-TM700 is even slightly superior...

that is... too powerful for consumer camcorders -_- Sony should consider make a better and card version of XR520.
