@jippyjester You want to know the difference? Listen for a strong bassline; there's not any nowadays. Listen to so called "R&B" today and find a bassline. Music without a bassline is mostly considered "Pop" music. One of the beauties of Soul music was there was a strong bassline to compliment the artistry and that distinctive sound of that vocalist.
Yes,Al was real high on the BET awards and Cherrelle knew it.Poor fellow, his life has been so disastrous and rough. He was so high,Cherrelle told him to take his time to ge the words out.But I love Al music and he from my home state of MISS or the Sipp.Al,Jimmy Jam,and Terry Lewis all got fired by Prince. So,they got together with their other producers, called'The Secret' to put Al album out.The rest is history. His new cd bangin'!!!!'Its on youtube.Keep supporting this brotha!!!
Did anyone catch Alex last week at the BET Awards? Dude looked cracked out and has managed to ruin one of the greatest voices of 80s R&B. The **** was heartbreaking yo.
This is a FLIGHT! I grew up listening to the 80`s music. Alexander was an all time favorite at my house, family & friends house. My mom use to throw card parties & all the grown people be like HAAAAAYYYYY!
@victornewman06 Sad, I know. I'm always running behind the bus, but I catch it eventually - LOL! Actually I have a lot of his songs already. Now I just gotta fill in the cracks.
I remember when I first heard this song...18 years old, just got in the Air Force, away from home, and my roommate introduced this album to me. Forever grateful for those times, memories, and this album. THANK YOU Alexander O'Neal for this gift!
I heard a song from him on the radio recently called "You're Gonna Miss Me" Anybody know if it's new or not? I thought I had all of his songs, but this one was incredible and I can't find it on anything.
you can't really get mad at people who dislike songs. Not all music is for everyone. Thats why there is a variety. Not everyone has a passion for soul like us. I have a true appreciation for older R&B. Like most of us.
This is still a jam. He performed this in concert back in February at club 572 and it was off the chain. I love all of his songs especially Crying Over Time. I would love to see him in concert again.
I can't lie, this song helped heal my heart, cause my ex broke it to pieces.I never been so hurt 3 years ago.I am careful to let someone close to my heart again.
I needed to hear this .... I will not let my ex husband back in my life....he like other men who just live for the moment...while I'd rather have someone who thinks for the long term.....
I remember a guy taking me to a sweetheart's dance when this song came out. I was supposed to got with this other guy originally, but at the last minute, he decided to take another girl so a friend of his wound up taking me and rented a stretch limo and he bought me some nice, expensive roses. How is that for a Valentine's day?
@cairns65 Still alive. Married and doing well. If you put his name in here on youtube, there is current footage of him> i dont think he performs as much as he use to.
Oh yeah!! This is my favorite Alexander O'Neal song!! I love everything about this song from the lyrics to the melody. This song is great from beginning to end!!
♫ And maybe I'll fall in love , if you catch my fall and you never break my hear baby ♫ WOOOOOOOOOO I LOOOOVE THIS SONGGGG ! MY FAVORITE OF HIS HANDS DOOOWWWWNNN
a few commenters have mentioned that today's male artists sound too feminine. i dont totally disagree, but this condition is just one of the side effects of trying to create the perfect entity. you gotta give the ladies what they want. they wanted good looking, vulnerable, polished male singers. when they get too polished, the ladies want'em back dirty again.
I had this album and almost wore this song out! Love it!!!! Thank you for posting it! I can't find it on itunes. Brings back so many memories. Sure wish I could go back ;)
@David19225: I am so glad you made that comment because i said it on another video and got several hateful emails. I just agree 1,000% that alot of these guys today sound too femenine for my taste. You made my day when i came to this video to see that i am not the only one who picked up on that. It is good to hear a man's voice sound like one and not like a man trying to sound like a female because that is so annoying to me.
I love this song. I wish I was born earlier to enjoy this music when it first came out. This song kinda sounds like a slow version of Prince's 17 Days.
@userman21350 It's OK. It's good that it's still available to hear. Each generation has their own memories. Just make new memories with the old. It is good to know that young peopleappreciate this.
Apologies to all if I've said this before but this particular track reminds me of the invention of the "Sony Walkman" and my West Indies and Florida trip whilst in the British Royal Navy in 1986. God Bless you Alex and all who sail with you in your fabulous soul music gift!!

Classic...still sounds good after all these years. This is from a time when a person had to know how to sing to make money. Now, even people who started off singing sound like T-Pain.
Very very soothing........ when this song came out , I was very heartbroke, in a dark place.... and I heard this song, :( and it was soothing... It helped!
Song many songs, so many HITS!!!! But this will always be my favorite by Alex. Even over the great classic "Sunshine". This song is very unique because it has emotion that can relate without missing a beat, to men & women equaly. Most songs seems to relate to one gender over the other. Classic 80's!!!!!!!!
@David19225 ....Alexander also had a masculine voice and it was so clear...he should have never left Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis..smh.. Definitely one of the best 80's male singer voices.
I wasnt even born when this song came out but my daddy always listens to ol skool music so I became a big fun. He has a very nice and natural voice. One of my fav songs.
I have 16 years when i listen this track in the album to AON.The B side is the bests tracks! This music never end and never dies in my heart Wonderfull.Tks.

Even though this song came out before I was born, I love Alexander O'Neal's music. He's so soulful and the music is just wonderful to listen to!!

I like the fact that even though he is talking about having a broken heart, he still sounds like a MAN, not some whiny punk.

@David19225 ....Alexander also had a masculine voice and it was so clear...he should have never left Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis..smh.. Definitely one of the best 80's male singer voices.
