  • that guy at 0:33 is gonna dig a fire line?

  • Awesome video, could do without the cheese ass 80s music though.

  • Working for the forest service really sucks! I really want to get on a hot shot crew and make the big bucks!

  • @troth11 Why does it suck, because you get paid shit?

  • @rushin2 I realized that when I clicked the video. I wanted to get a lay of the land :P

  • i hate being the girlfriend of a wildland firefighter you guys have no idea how hard it is. especialy when he is in Minnaota and im in colorado. i hate only geting one call a day if that.some days i wish he would just quit. Iam i selfish for wishing that???

  • @rufusbum thanks that makes me so much better

  • @emogodesscici yes your selfish a.f

  • @emogodesscici yes but thats his duty and he's doing what he loves!

  • I never liked those type of helicopters at 0:36. Looks like something from Half-Life.

  • lol i'm the one in the yellow shirt

  • My brother and friend are on hot line right now. Wish I was with em. The sucky part is it's not even forty minutes away from me as I type this. I'm supposed to be out there too!!!!

  • @dingledorf1

"Video montage of Pics and video from Idaho in 2006 and 2007"

Unless you traveled back in time...

  • Be safe out their y'all from the Engine Strike Team of Utah AGCW

  • Some Good pictures man. Hope all my Brothers out there have a good and safe season, Maybe we'll have a good one one and ill see you there.

Be safe bros, From Oregon helitack crew 7

  • This is a badass video man good work..I just finished my FFT2 training, hoping to get some action this season. I always watch this video, it pumps me up! Hopefully see some of you out on the line. peace

  • phoeniox 23 must be a so called "hotshot". been doin this for 20+ years, as a contractor. now we have several IA crews. i would put my crew against a shot crew any f*cking day. not all contract crews are worthless( i know a lot are though). shots aren't what they used to be. still some good ones out there though. pretty good video, music did,nt quite fit, but you captured our lifestyle pretty good. see you all on the line. stay safe brothers(and sisters).

  • hopefully fatty mcfatterson @ 0.33 is IC and not a ground pounder

  • Love Satch in the background -

  • that was weird... when i was watching this, i smelled smoke...

  • im a wild land firefighter and i love my job its nothing like helping peaple and the wild

  • just had a phone interview today for a summer seasonal job..hopin to get a call back in a few weeks :) my dad did it and to do what he used to do would be awesome

  • Nice. We dont get much use for a Sikorsky in Jersey Just an H-1 or Blackhawk on a rare occasion

  • Braving the elements, walking into flames wildland firefighting looks awesome.

  • God Bless and be Safe, stay tight with the Black!

  • HELL YEAH... Some Metallica starting at 2:40 would kick it up a notch. Excellent vid

To all my fellow Dragon Slayerz out there...

  • I just got my certificate in wild land firefighting, the class was awsome!

  • God,We beg you, please, bless and keep these incredible people.

THANK YOU for all that you do.

  • Why did no one cut those trees down next to the houses @ 7:05? What part of Idaho was this?

  • good ol' S-64

  • what is the name of the music please replay!

  • @paintballer1231 wages start anywhere from $10-15 and goes up from there. A crew boss can make from $18-25. Depends on the location, organization and experience. And as firefighting is weather dependent, on a slow wet season there may not be much work. It's a great job but much depends on mother nature. Firefighters in the west pray for hot and dry with chance of thunderstorms.

  • @firespyder123 dry lightning storms.... a black forrest, means a green wallet. hahahaha

  • nice video like the sky crane. colorado river crew type 2

  • Comment removed

  • my tent

  • Guy @ :33 goot luck with the pack test.

  • hes probably a contracter:P

  • 24 years doin wildland in Az, love the job. Great video

  • what are the wages for this job?

  • @paintballer1231 idk about the US but in aus the wildfire firefighters are volounteer

  • wow this video is gay

  • I don't know if I could be a wildland firefighter or not.... It seems extremely challenging. You must need a whole hell of a lot of endurance to do it.

  • @abzvinny318 ima hot shot for the us forest service its 40% physical and 70% mental. if you wanna fight fire dnt let anything hold you back.

  • My first wildfire as a Federal employee, was on my birthday, July 6, 1989, when a kid shot off a bottle rocket from the boat ramp, landing on a hilltop next to one of our campgrounds. I had fought two wildfires as a civilian prior to that. I asked to get red card certified, to be on the interangency fire team, but due to budget cuts in our division...NO. Got to participate in some intense control burns. We burnt off the face of Garrison Dam, a rolled earth dam, smoke was seen 100 miles off.

  • ima wildland firefighter from az F'YALL that think u knw our job! if u say u want 2 join shut up an do it! if not step aside u gota b serious nout this job b fit but 1st can u pass the pack test 45lbs pack walkng in under 45min or less so quit dissn the helitacks fire personal esp the type 2's an esp the hotshots, an smokejumpers respect the fire

  • Idaho Season 07 I was on the Poe Cabin, Rattlesnake, and a few others around the Grangeville area. Tonto NF Arizona!!!!

  • yoyomann86 it is obvious that you do not have "many years of experience" in the fire service. Quit making yourself look like an ass to all of us who can easily see through your crap okay?

  • This video should be called "So You Want To Be A Bagger" Whats up with all the bright yellow nomex and beer guts....

  • can't wait for this season!!!!!!

  • Nice vid, can't wait for this season, maybe see ya on the line!

  • @yoyomann86

you better get some years and experience under your belt before becoming a squad boss on any crew. as for the guy at :33 he is way to clean and big to be on a hand crew...must be an engine slug, the driver...

  • @sgtjpmartin how do you know how much experience I have bro? Like I said I have been in the fire service for many years now. I am a fire warden in my state. you guys keep thinking what you want. your fire service is alot different than ours. I did not say I was going to be a Squad boss this year out west.

  • i wish indiana had wild fires like this

  • @sergeantdiessel

why would you ever wish something like that??? your the typical pyro out there saying your a firefighter but not doing it for the reall reason to save the forest and homes. i bet you get off looking at fire you sick freak.

  • im soory i like to work and make living to support the people i love i wish indiana hadmore pronounced fires becuase thats where i live would it mean that my house could burn down or others sure it does but what is the difference between a california home getting burnt and an indiana home or my home getting burnt down

  • cal fire is a total drain of tax dollars and needs to be privatized

  • How did the guy @ .33 pack test

  • anyone who puts down CDF sure didn't learn anything. That is where i got my best lessons for life. Hate it when someone puts them down. I was in the CCC out of julian,ca. best training i got there. Its always been home to me.

  • i was there in 1992. One hell of a expierience

  • yea good video im working on getting certified now. im taking my s130 and s190 for starters and will be taking my squadboss and other tests as well.

  • Got a ways to go before you even start thinking of squadboss man. a LONG way

  • nah man its different out here on the east coast. Ive been in the fire service here as a volunteer since i could walk. Im just now taking the tests so i can get paid to do so. I will on the crew goin out west as well. But for the east coast it aint nothing like out west lol.

  • Sweet video. Is the guy @ 0:33 Pregers? Haha

  • Best 10 years of my life were spending long hours swinging a paulaski for a decent paycheck on terrain that would scare the crap out of a mountain goat. WOLF CREEK HOTSHOTS ROCK!

  • @hhtenke worked with you guys (and ladies) quite a bit over the years. i will have to say Wolf Creek is 1 of the few REAL shot crews around. i'm from Glide, so i would know.

  • Your best bet is DNR or starting with the USFS, you can start out of highschool and being an EMT helps but does not help that much over others... structure does not mean crap... sorry, you will start with everyone that is new... wildland fires are so much different..... get ready to HIKE if your on a handcrew!!! Best job ever... make about 20 grand in 3 1/2 months... not bad!

  • @topoutman: That's cool dude. I'll actually be 21 when I'm able to go. Am I too old?

  • I"m 20. I will hopefully be leaving in May for the fire season. But I'm not with any Wildland agency. I spent 2 years as a structural firefighter and I've been an EMT for almost 2 years. What agency will I most likely be able to get with? And at 20, am I too young to get into it as a starter?

  • Is it possible to get into this right out of high school with no college experience?

  • yeah it is. i was 18 when i took the 40 hour training with the bear divide hot shots.

and after that i was clear to go.

  • 2:58 WOW.....or photoshoped?

  • Real !

  • Comment removed

  • @Polskmofo Cal-Fire pilots are the best in the world, i wouldn't doubt for a minute that that is real.

  • Why no photo's of your CREW BOSS ? Not the ones on the beach either.

  • whoa ran out of yellow material

  • learn to cook

  • We have a free forum for First Responders to discuss issues related to such. Also, non-First Responders are also welcome to join and get a better understand of what it means/takes to be a First Responder; ooliticfiredepartmentDOT(you know the end)com

  • i start my cert course next sat and cant wait to do it

  • smoke jumpers don't actually put out forest fires. your right, it is natures way of redoing itself. they bring the fire to a controlable, safe state.

  • WOW u know nothing! haha Have u ever even talked or worked with one... did not think so, stop posting crap

  • they should just let california burn

  • lol

  • lol the beggining looks like a bunch ov guys sitting around watching a fire. jk i hav a lot of respect 4 wat they do

  • let them burn....its natures way of redoing it self. old dead stuff its burnt up furtalizing the ground and putting nutrients into the soil. has anyone ever seen what a hill side or what ever looks like after a fire. in a few years a beautiful green medow. so just let it burn.

  • You don't get it.

If you let something like a wildfire burn and don't stop it, then it will just keep burning. It'll always find more fuel.

  • Maybe yoyur local fire department has a wildland s130 and s190 course you could enquire about but it isnt' about want to do it it is about learn not just fire behaviour but the command sytem and a hell of allot of other variable and elements. So get with it and get your red card then you may be able to get with a agency or contractor and hopefully you will get on a serious team. Hoodland Fire Dept Oregon

  • this is my first year and i love it looking forward to many more years ahead

  • I've already taken my Wildland training and I'm considering working for the Bureau of Land Management during the summer in Wyoming or Idaho, maybe California. If I don't go with them, I'll probably go for a private agency like Firestorm Fire Suppression. Anybody know of any good agencies to work for? I'm not looking for a Hotshot or Smokejumper job. Type 2 would be good.

  • @HurfinDurfin Us Forest Service has the most jobs probably available. go to Region 5 (california) and get a couple seasons on an engine crew first, reason i say that is engines arent used as much and as widely in other regions. Other places it's more of a crew show.

  • @HurfinDurfin there's all kinds of private type 2 hand crews and engine crews all over regions 1 and 6. Private crews do a lot of firefighting in these areas as well as in other regions. Large contractors in OR, such as Ferguson Mngmt Co, Grayback Forestry, PatRick Corp, etc all hire tons of individuals every year. I run a private engine out of MT, and have traveled all over the west fighting fire. You don't need to work for a government agency to fight wild fires.

  • Give me a Job, I CAN WORK! I WANT TO DO THIS!!!

  • HEY i was at this FIRE!!! this is when IC burned over!!

  • hi! i am looking for a job as wildland firefighter if anyone could give me a good website where i could join that would be great thanks

  • Most of the training is done, unless you have your red card already from the S-130 and S-190, you may have to wait until next season. This will probably be one of the harder years for rookies, because of the High Heat and Low Rain, makeing the R.H extremely low, and the fires extremely dangerous, especially in the West, with the Olympics, around Oregon, and California again, as if last year wasnt bad enough

  • ok im gunna do this and ive heard that its back breaking hard ass work... but this whole video has no working going on just standing around so what the fuck exactly is it that you do

  • Its obvious that you have no clue about wildland firefighting or firefighting in general.

  • @dylansdrunkenmonkey because when you're working, you can't be sitting there filming, it's too dangerous and hard to film when you're running a chain saw, swinging a tool, or putting in a hoselay on an engine crew......usually you only get a chance to take pics if you're holding or burning out. I've been on an engine for 4 years and am currently on hotshot crew in socal

  • Awsome video, I been a willand firefighter 24 years now and it never gets old. Glad to see others love it like I do. Keep it up, stay safe

  • I love wildland firefighting. i worked with Navajo Scouts out of Arizona. Best Type II Handcrew around. Worked some of the best ground pounders there. Enjoyed the hard work, the smell of the smoke, and sack lunches were shytty but the evening dinner was the bomb. Being female didn't make it any easier for me, but i loved every second of it, boring or not.

  • It is good to let others know that females are allowed in this profession. I'm getting ready to take S-490 after that I'm heading out west to find work. :) This is by far the best job in the world! :D

  • what about people who have one eye.

WIll they allow them, because this is the job I want.

  • I believe so, as long as you can follow LCES (Lookouts, Communications, Escape routes, Safety zones). If you have a glass eye that will be one less eye you have to worry about burning like crazy after you've been in the smoke for a day.

And who the hell gave me a thumbs down on my last comment?!

  • Cool video man... good to see other people passionate about wildland firefighting. Check out the new blog BumpAndLickdotWordPressdotcom :P

  • this video sucks!!!!

  • So which fire in Idaho in 07 did you film? case around 1:26...that looked like the Poe Cabin...then there were times when it looked like you were on the Chimmeny Complex...i happened to be on that one.

  • are you a wildland firefighter? If so could you gemme more information about what they do? Right now im a volunteer firefighter however I am interested in being a firefighter as a career and im looking at all the types of firefighting...

  • Well ive fought wildland fire for the past two summers...im looking at it career wise but it is definately a fun job!! You should apply to your local forrestry disctric and get on the crew...or apply anywhere..im sure the hiring process is already complete for this year but just look online. they are pretty easy to find.

  • Buddy o' mine @ 1:07

  • yep thats firefighting, the ICs stand around and talk, and the Type IIs do all the work;) actually i saw alot of good ol, "hurry up and wait" first year is amazing, after that its pretty boring crap. Unless your with a really good crew, than its the time of your life.

  • I work for a rural department...we do anything that comes our way. We have a huge initial attack area, and work closely with USFS, fish&feathers, and CalFire. In fact, we have several seasonals who are from these departments that work for us in the winter. They are all outstanding individuals, as are their fellows at their home stations. I'd fight fire with any of them any day. Every department has slackers. Don't tarnish them all for it.

  • cdf is Cant Do Fire or now CAL fire

    Cant Attack Live Fire

  • Actually it's the 3 lowest grades you can get in school. Just kidding Cal Fire. I know thats why you changed your name.-JS

  • What is CDF?

  • California Dept. of Forestry

  • preciate it man. i thought they were talking about municipal firefighters.

  • I've seen CDF EngineSlugs sit in thier trucks all day, hit up the tiniest smokers you can find, then roll around in the ashes and come to camp like their the baddest MFs around... Give me a break...

  • hear hear on the CDF shit. They are the biggest baggers in the world. Dont do shit. they get paid twice as much as us FS folks, and do less work. They sit at a house and wait for the fire to come to them. While we are out busting our asses for 16 plus hrs a day, hell 90% of the time the fires dont reach the houses they are at. No wonder california is broke as a mother F$%^&*. Just junk CDF.

  • hey martin2145 if you are with the usfs I hope to god you are on a shot crew or smoke jumper or on a helitack crew. I'm on a handcrew through OR a saw team, lead sawyer, and I have worked with my fair share of forest service engine slugs

  • Dont forget about the Inmate fire crews! The California Department of Corrections have their fire crews too.. Their called Conservation Camps and they do alot of the Grunt work for all Firefighters. They run circles around all of the firefighting groups!! I know. I did five years for them and that was the toughest job I have ever had. God Bless those who are out there on the line. Siempre Fideles

  • CDF=cum dripping faggots, chickens dodging fire, cant defeat fires, and the three worst grades you can get in school.Got anymore?HOORAH TO THE REAL FIREFIGHTERS ON THE LINE.

  • I met a hotshot crew, and they thought they were invincible. 2 days later they got trapped in a slop-over, and one of them was seriously injured. Never overestimate your abilities, or underestimate fire behavior.

  • I could use some advice on how to get my foot in the door on one of these crews.

    Any advice is appreciated.

  • go to any local forest service office. or try an Department of natural recourses, thats what i did and just keep goin back and back get ur red card and ur set

  • Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it!

  • I know a few hotshot crews and some of them are very very stuck up people. But others are just some of the greastest people i have talk to.

  • baggers

  • great joe satriani song here- awsome vid -

  • this video gets me pumped to work for Cal fire/CDF and fight some serious wildland blszes

  • cal fire doesnt fight serious fires, they still in hotels and protect homes and get all the glory........baggers

  • well fuckin said..i work for blm and i see them sitting in lawn chairs doing structure protection while were out on the line..yet they are the ones on the news

  • HA CDF just sits around. They don't do shit. BLM, FS, fin & feather, park service They fight the fires. CDF just gets in the way.

  • what are you talking about Cal Fire is out there busting there balls just like every other crew.

  • No sorry, Cal fire is a joke in the fire world. Over paid and under worked. I've been on many fires with CDF there. I was most surprised by a 3 hour lunch break 1 hour away from the fire. We ate MRE's and kept working. CDF managed fires are the worst. Talk about cluster F*&k. They do have the best camp food though I will give them that prisoners make some good grub.

  • this vid is so cool it even got the Top Gun music in it!

  • My Dream Job

  • i love this job and have found that saskatchewan initial attack and emergency firefighters are the best out there ive worked in lots of provinces and states to know this.

  • You must not know any hotshot crews

  • i agree with ThriceTPF

specially with Bear Divide Hot Shots from California.

  • i want to be a wildland firefighter but there is a problem i am not from USA i´m from Slovenia (EU). if is possible to becom a wildland firefighter in USA?? could you help me whit this answer

  • You have to be a US citizen. I heard the EU has a wildland firefighter program(I may have heard things). But like, I Know that China has firefighters in Cali and around parts around their, Greece MAY still have some there, Russia does, and I'm not sure about anywhere else.

  • No thank you! I will stick with structural firefighting, you can have wildland. I did it once and enjoyed it, but never want to do it again.

  • by ground or air?

  • fighting fire is one thing but lighting fire is a whole other world. check out FAIRHOLME PRESCRIBED BURN.

    Canadian burning... good video.

  • Pause at 33 seconds... I'm not positive but I think that guy is prego.. no offense just observation. The rest of the work shown is great! Love what you guys do

  • I wouldnt trust him to have in front of the line.

  • Man you should show some credits. I took a few of those pictures. I love the video but give credit.

  • i like the part at 2:57

  • man, sesech was crazy too, my friggin tent was melted on my pillow, i was with the Targhee type 2 team

  • Great video....Love the adventure

  • Nothin like an ICP burnover...Cascade Complex '07 that was pretty crazy. Did you see the burnt up garbage truck? lol

  • DAMN NICE!!!

  • Nice video shots of the 'burn by' and the rest of the sweet fire behavior. Email me so I can use your footage for the DVD fund raiser for the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.

  • Yea Man, It truely is a life style. Gotta love it! From IA to ooops, lost it, to T3-T1, then 14/21+ in the dirt. Nothing but fun! God Bless the ground pounders and all their support.

  • I was at that camp with WIC-6. The funniest thing in the video is all the non-fireline qualified folk that are standing around during the camp burnaround.

  • GREAT VIDEO. Its true its not a job its a life style.

  • Love it, i was on that fire but left 2 days before the fire camp burnover.

  • not bad - pretty good
