Ok, if you know about Smokey then you know his pedigree...Straight FIRE!...EVERYTHING this man touched was BANANAS!...Shout out to Smokey Rob!...Shout out to the Original Hit Factory!
Great! Love the old school music.Their is no talent today like back then.I practice all the old school music on my guitar, specially the Temps, Marvin Gay, Four Tops, the list goes on. jray1951@att.net
The MIRACLES have more GRAMMY HALL OF FAME inducted songs than ANY other MOTOWN group. More than The SUPREMES, TEMPTS, TOPS, J-5, ...ALL OF THEM.
Also, over 50 of their songs have been covered by literally SCORES of other artists...in EVERY MAJOR MUSICAL GENRE. POP, ROCK, COUNTRY,REGGAE, JAZZ, MOR/EASY LISTENING, RAP/HIP-HOP, & ACAPELLA , as well as SOUL/R&B. No other Motown group even comes CLOSE. And , they were ALL writers...not just Smokey.
Thanks so much for posting this video! When this song first came out, I loved it instantly...but it seemed to come and go so quickly from the charts, and I couldn't believe such a great song didn't make "Number One" back then!
Hadn't heard (or even thought about) this song for years, but suddenly have been singing it to myself the last few days and longed to hear Smokey singing it again. Feels like a gentle rain falling on a wilted flower! And I agree with you - it IS a "forgotten gem!."
Hey does anybody have Smokey Robinsons song "love so fine" that was on the "cruising" album... I'm so surprised its not on youtube, unless that's not the name, I used to play it every day though..
One of THE MIRACLES' biggest hits, BABY BABY DON'T CRY was a million-selling Top 10 smash from Spring , 1969. It reached # 8 on the Billboard Pop Chart, and # 3 on it's R&B Chart that year.
i'm younger and i grew up outside philly and a dj named harvey holiday put me on to a lot of this shit. he had a motown show and a soul show on thursdays (he had a doo wop show on sundays too but i can only take so much of that)
i go back home, and it's now a clear channel bullshit 80s pop-as-oldies station, and harvey holiday is giving away journey tickets
@luvmebabynow >> OMG > Smokey put on one of the best shows I've ever seen > Smokey tore the house up when he did > THE TRACKS OF MY TEARS > TAKE SOMEONE YOU LOVE WITH YOU > IT WILL MAKE FOR A GOODNIGHT > ( SMILE & ENJOY ) <<
The MIRACLES' Baby Baby Don't Cry WAS a big hit. It reached the Billboard Pop AND R&B Top 10 , and sold over a million copies in Spring, 1969. Check out Miracles member Pete Moore's corporate website at Google: " WBMM Enterprises" - for details.
A truly beautiful song, haunting in a way. This song has always touch a deep nerve with me- it's another of those Motown songs that demonstrates that the company wasn't just about creating good dance tunes, but could create emotionally honest songs as well. The whole song is brilliant, but when it hits that break and modulates up a key, I almost always loose it. A Masterpiece.
@joehancock01 Claudette Robinson was an original member of The Miracles. She retired from live performances in 1964 for health reasons, but continued recording with the group until 1972, when her husband, Smokey, left.
This song is so smouldering and sexy.......truly in the "Smokey" tradition.
