Either Bernard Odum or Charles Sherrell. I lean more toward Bernard Odum. Although they had similar styles when playing with James, there is still a distinct difference in their attack. You have to listen really close to feel and hear the difference.
It's actually Charles Sherrell, as Odum had already left the band when this was recorded in late 1968. I think that the last hit that Odum played on was "I Got the Feelin'."
Another #1 hit for The Godfather of Soul on the Rhythm & Blues charts. This was the 190th #1 R&B song of the Rock Era. It also hit #15 on the Top 40 charts.
@xtabol1 Word. Most hip hop tunes are based on sped up drum grooves taken ( stolen ) from the great funk masters of the 70's. And no guys were ripped off more than James Brown's drummers ( Clyde Stubblefield and Jabo Starks, and many others ).
@IkeDyson71 Like I said " and many others " This drummer was a guy named Nate Jones, he originally created this drum groove. James used a lot of drummers.
Just seeing the label on this 45 takes me back to another place and time. Was it a kinder, gentler time, or does it just seem that way now? These records were like a window into another world.
@malcocreative - know what mean.....i was born mid 60,s and can remember taking over my big sisters record player(in a hard box, with hinged latchs, silver),and a lways looking for the plastic snap in thing.......
