  • t5e2@funny, beautyfull

  • Rainie is so cuteeee! haha !!

  • @t5e2 thank you!

  • I know this may sound stupid but

Do people in Taiwan speak mostly

    Taiwanese or Mandarin?

  • @102tobi most people in Taiwan can understand and speak Mandarin because the language is forced upon them in school.

85% of people in Taiwan can understand Taiwanese because it's their mother tongue, but only about 70% speak it on a daily basis.

Hakka and aborigine languages are also spoken, but much fewer speakers.

Rainie Yang speaks fluent Japanese and Cantonese in addition to Mandarin, but she is a poor Taiwanese speaker.

  • feel bad for her profession as a cutie

  • this makes me thirsty

  • kawaii is japanese

    可爱 is chinese.

she is Taiwanese and her people speak Chinese, not Japanese. Kawaii is inappropriate here.

  • @XinBiDe Sorry , it should be 愛 and do not pretend that you

know much about Taiwan , Thx.

  • @WuBingWay The 愛 i used at that time was simplified because my computer at the time could only type simplified Chinese.

I never claimed to be a Taiwan expert, but for the record, my fiancé is Taiwanese, and I have been living in Taiwan for the last 2 years. I'm doing my MA in Taiwan at NCCU in China Studies, and I'm learning both Mandarin and Taiwanese...

At least give me credit for knowing more than the average laowai hahaha.

Also, I still hate when idiots call Taiwanese girls "kawaii".

  • @XinBiDe Actually 80% of the population in Taiwan older than 75 speak Japanese.

  • @Taipei2Tokyo Is she older than 75? Also, that statistic is pretty misleading. They speak Japanese like high school kids in America speak Spanish. For sure, plenty of them are fluent, but that is simply because they were occupied by the Japanese prior to 1949. It has no bearing as an excuse to call a Taiwanese girl "kawaii".

  • @XinBiDe They absolutely do not speak like American high school kids that took 3 years of Spanish. They completed compulsory education and speak very fluently, albeit with a strange sort of time-warped Japanese that was used 60 years ago. I figure, they can call a Taiwanese girl "ku-ai" "kawaii" or "cute" in any language they choose.

  • @Taipei2Tokyo Just looked at your profile. You're the wrong fuckin' Taiwanese person to bump into on a topic like this. Listen, I live in Taipei, like you, and all I know is that no self-respecting Taiwanese that I know of (aside from yourself) would ever call a Taiwanese girl "kawaii". When I see Westerners pretending they know something about Asian cultures by calling a Chinese girl "kawaii", it makes me vomit in my mouth a bit. Agree to disagree, man.

  • @XinBiDe 有吧=.=我認識的人裡面有用かわいい來稱讚台灣女生的,在部落格裡有時也會用到,沒那麼common就是了,還是以"可愛"或者"古錐"為主,沒必要那麼生氣啦:P
