yes abs is perfect it happened with me before many times i was driving 120 kilometers and a car stopped infront of me on the traffic signal so i press brake and changed my lane to the rigth track if this is without abs then
There are at least three studies which show that drivers' response to antilock brakes is to drive faster, follow closer and brake later, accounting for the failure of ABS to result in any measurable improvement in road safety. The studies were performed in Canada, Denmark and Germany. Search for "Risk Compensation"
Theres another thing. In your simulation at 4:00 you have to go with a lot of speed for that long breaking, ABS has never failed me i that situation. BTW. Cool video. in my place i preffer ABS its like you say, its not flawless. Cool video and sorru about my english
@wj0102 No. Because they want to have as much breaking force as possible. Not to mention with their skill they don't need it so it becomes extra weight.
so, you consider yourself to be such a "pilot" that you can react in such a way in an emergency lasting 1-2": realize the incoming danger, react, slamming the brakes, realize that you are skidding, slowly release the brakes until you reach the non-skidding threshold. I dont know about american cars, but in european when the abs is engaged, if you release slightly the brake so that the braking force does not lock the wheels, there is no longer any use of the abs since there is no lockage!
@Rotemetoot "Hit"* And you´re right, but if I had mentioned that the only option was to hit the cars instead of a kid I would have even more close minded comments (not yours, I mean the others) nagging me about how much they love they car and a kid would damage less their car and they dont care about a child. Tnx for watching + commenting!
Actually ABS ain't that special...all ABS does is pump brakes faster than any man...but "pumping brakes" is an old technique used on old cars that had brakes based on flawed materials (copper and such). With robust modern brakes you don't need to pump anything, just threshold brake and you'll do fine...
its not natural to let up on your brake when your about to kill someone. this all happens within a second. soo if a kid runs out. you bet your ass your gettin get on them brAkes and not let up until your car is stopped.
@BowtieLS6 That´s panic braking and if that´s your reaction you´re better on ABS. Again I don´t like ABS so I dont use it. I would keep on commenting about why and stuff... but all these videos get a lot of comments of very narow-minded people (I don´t mean you) and I´m tired of always saying the same stuff over and over hehe. Thnx for commenting
If the car is equiped with EBD(which applies brake pressure to the wheels that need it the most) slamming the brake with abs should result in a faster stopping rather than hard breaking without abs
This vid is misleading. In *most* (including dry) situations, ABS will consistently outbrake a non-abs vehicle... Here's why... ABS allows each (all 4) wheels to generate maximum braking force, therefore shortest distances. Without ABS, most brake systems are calibrated such that you lock the front wheels, before the rear. This is done for stability. However, it leaves the rear brakes *UNDERUTILIZED*, that is, they do NOT generate maximum stopping power. ABS uses each tire to full capacity.
@Thakidd22 not really misleading, they do perform better than a full lock, feel free to watch the other videos I´ve uploaded about this and read some of the comments, lots of dicussion about this, tnx for watching
@julesTEO A vehicle equipped with ABS will always have a shorter stopping distance than a car without ABS. This video here is animation, not showing real cars in real life. So this is not real scientific information. ABS also allows a person to steer around an object on the road while hard on the brakes. There is a reason why every new cars these days have ABS, including sports cars that need to stop quick.

@957jamz Look at the 4th episode I did (/watch?v=ly62FoZH_Dc). It was me on my car, real life test, no animations, I would tell you more, but everything is on the video. You´re right, its not scientific information, just my opinion based on my own experience. Tnx for commenting!
@lfsracer79 Excaclty. The issue is that most people beleive that ABS will handle everything for the driver, but the solutions is to drive accordingly to the situation (defensive driving) and not relying on your car "safety equipment". tnx 4 commenting!
what if ur in panic and u press the brakes praying to god u won hit the kid but u dont have ABS and u got your licence yesterday so today if your first day whithout instructor in a car
@Ostrid1 that´s why on my first video I mentioned "experienced drivers might find non ABS more reliable". If someone is driving for the first time without instructor then I would fear that driver, also having an instructor wouldnt help since this reactions take seconds, and even if someone told you what to do (or how to brake in this case) before they finished the sentence you might have already hit something hehe
yeah, it is POSSIBLE to stop a non ABS car in that situation, but there's left one comparisson, Kid running sudenly, Car with ABS, Car withouth ABS and a Outstanding Driver and Car without ABS and a common driver...
I can tell you, the third driver could just block the wheels and SMASH so hard on the kid. the ABS driver on the video could just hit the kid, but a common driver without ABS could kill him.
On this situation, I would smash on the parked cars... a kid is less expensive than that.
@setsunaes you´r right, I should´ve included the fully locked non abs car, but that´s why I included almost at the end the reminder that a fully locked car will take even longer to stop.
your test is wrong, abs IS NOT made to apply the brakes and crash into what your looking at, it specifically makes it so you can turn without locking and sliding.
hey stupid jaime001254!! this place ti share our opinion, and not to mention all kind of stupid word like 'shit'.. go away from this forum, stupid jaime001254!!
yo no hablo d nada de bosch, no digo que el abs sea malo, pero igual que todo tiene pros y contras solo ilustro aqui UNO de los contras, y no digo que al tener panico uno bloque las llantas, creo que no entiendes bien el punto del video, saludos!
no ABS can brake on shorter distance but as in the other vid, locking wheels on non abs will have a lager distance, i´ll make some other scenarios when i have the time, tnx for subscribing!

Thats the reason why racing cars are not equiped with ABS as they want to brake as late as possible

I only want to comment on 0:34
"With no where to steer (other than into parked cars) the only option is to keep your foot firm on the pedal"
When you are about to hid a CHILD the only option is to steer into parked cars.
So that line doesn't make sense at all.
