@MrPartyZombie Some. Pua uses a pee pad in the closet to pee but that was one of her favorite spots anyway and I just put a pad where she likes to poop but there will always be some marking/accidents.
@d1v4dPwnz I rarely wash her now. I used to wash her every month or two at first as I was allergic to her but seem to have gotten used to her. She doesn't seem to really need one that often.
I just stick her in the tub and use the shower head to hose her down like with the dogs.
@holyshitbmth I'm not sure. You'd really have to check the requirements of each state. Some people have them in banned states by special permit so don't assume a state is okay just because someone has one their either. Most laws can by found by typing state name and code into google then look for animal and exotic laws.
@TheAdrenalineEffect They can be imported but only from the USA. Check with the Boarder Service Agency. They inspect them at the boarder. You also need to check city and providence laws.
What are the risks of Anteater's as pets? I've heard some good things, but I'm sure theres some negatives to it as well. Such as if they often attack/scratch or what?
@hippaul Google anteater FAQ and anteater care sheet and those will help you. You do need to file or trim their claws for safety but they are non-aggressive will just defend themselves when scared.
Yes. You can search for one og my videos "anteater love" and see Pua spending some bonding time with me but unlike most dogs she wont stay unless she's in the mood to.
Kind of. Pua knows her name but she wont come just because you call. I did train her to come to a squeaker but she only comes to it inside. Outside is more exciting to explore than to come for a treat.
Pua is the one drinking wine in the video and she can walk on two legs. I even have video of it in the Target training videos. Stewie was more out going and flamboyant and would climb and hang from door frames.
i never thought of an anteater as an affectionate creature, but they look like dogs wrestling here. are they generally friendly? shy or skittish around strangers?
Yes they are friendly and like to play and cuddle but they do so on their terms. They wont stay when they want to run around. Pua doesn't care about strangers. Stewie was friendly with everyone, but Pua is a momma's girl and Stewie wasn't as clinging or affectionate with me as she is.

there pretty cute but there dogs not anteaters but i understand that you done that to get more views so i can only 3* this as the title is missleading
Pua came from Guyana but had to be nursed back to health. She was a failure at wild living. Stewie was born at a facility in Florida but the family that got him rehomed him with me due to health problems in the family.
It'll be a while before I even consider this sort of pet; I want to get familiar with exotics starting with a fennec fox and genet. However, what I would like to know is, are they litter trainable or do they just pee anywhere? Since their pee stinks so bad. Also, do you know if they are legal in Texas?
I think they are currently legal in Texas but a lot of the counties and cities will ban exotics so you need to check those too.
Pretty trainable but need reminders because they want to pee or poop somewhere to mark. They do dribble pee around, like having a giant mouse that way.
What about doggy diapers? I wonder if they would even keep those on while roaming around the house. Here is a question I hadn't seen yet. What is their poop like? [Not to be disgusting] I mean, their diet is so much different, so is it firm or rather hard to clean, like mush?
They are CITES II but that only effects the import/export of them. It is very limited but allowed. State to state transport and ownership is not effected. However each state, county and city may have laws against exotics in general. If they were actually endangered then it would effect state to state movements and cross country trade stopped. They are tied with monkeys as most often killed as a nuisance animal in the wild so the limited trade is better for them as it spares their lives.
I bought them and learned how to care for them. Laws depend on the state, county and city. Many places don't allow it some places you can get permits for them.

I have always wanted an Anteater ( in particular a tamandua) but I appreciate that they are hard to attain and take care of.
Its best to be experienced in taking care of other species in this family.
But eventually I hope to have one of these cute buggers

It is like dog poop in consistency. They aren't really shaped right for diapers. I would also worry about them being wet constantly.

Don't you have to have a license or something to possess that animal?? I think it is listed as "threatened" on the wild life preservation roster.
