@Macdeth1717 That was the perfect time to sing it. He's dedicated this song to Randy forever now and he still does it live. If you've ever seen Ozzy in concert his entire demeanor changes and a sadness comes over him when he performs this tribute to the great Randy Rhoads.
@80sjamming Wasn't "Goodbye To Romance" the first song Randy and Ozzy wrote together? I wouldn't be surprised if that would be why he acts a bit differently with this particular song live.
@evh5150hawaii Yes it was in fact the first song they wrote together. I believe Ozzy was humming the vocal melody and Randy came up with the chord progression for it there. Bob Daisley wrote most of the lyrics later on.
I was born in 1996 ( I wOS BOURNE in 1996) and i love music by old heavy metal bands.I have this DVD and i love this concert, but maybe would better with Randy Rhoads. R.I.P.
Ozzy says that more than any other song this reminds him of Randy every times he does it to this day and that it's Randy he sees when he's looks over to the guitarist. Sometimes there is an unseen, unbreakeable bond between certain people and I believe that was/is the case with him and Randy. All these years later and the sadness is still so obvious when he talks about Randy. Losing a friend - a REAL friend is hard. We all know it or will one day. The price for opening our hearts-saying Goodbye.
Hey Godd.!! If we give u Justin Bieber,Rihana,Lady Gaga and ALL the other crapy nowdays "singers" can u give us back Randy Rhoad,Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson and ALL the other Rock-Metal-Pop LEGENDS?
This tour was the reamaing shows of the Diary of a Madman tour after Randy's death. I saw it live on Feb. 3rd, 1982 in Houston Tx. Shortly before the tragic accident that claimed the life of the greatest guitarist to ever live. Ozzy recruited Nightranger guitarist Brad Gillis to complete the tour. While searching for a replacement, he recorded the live album Speak of the Devil, which only contained Sabbath music. Thanks for the videos. I have been searching for them ever since my VHS copy died.
Yeah Baby !!! RR At his best !! This song shows the intense word weavery that only a soul with a beautiful heart and the real romanticsm of art and love thru honor can acheive .. To be taken away so early is a great service to us !! Because the Lord requested of him and he has taken what his words are sent for !!. He will always talk to us thru his clever choice of words which to me define the SOUND OF A TRUE LOVING HEART WE GIVE HIM TO YOU LORD !!!!!..And thru this
Awesome performance. Ozzy's vocals are incredible on this one. The guitar solo sounds weak compared to Randy Rhodes' studio job, but that's not to say its bad - not by any stretch of the imagination.
On video you can actually see how sad is ozzy there. on 1:21 he looks to left side to guitarist. here ozzy really misses randy a lot. it was the same year when randy died. it was very hard to ozzy at that time to keep going on. I heard that leather vest jacket from randy rhoads that brad gillis weared on this tour was ozzy`s wish that he could feel that a part of randy rhoads was still with him on stage. Heavy Metal trully misses randy rhoads.
Randy Rhoads, R.I.P., we miss you, A GREAT LEGEND!
@paranoid214 Yeah, god it was hard to watch Ozzy make that quick turn to the left and then look back at the audience thinking "fuck mate, why did you have to leave?!" That was hard.
Yeah it's too bad he was a complete dumb ass though, don't you think? I mean crashing an airplane into your own tour bus is pretty fucking stupid. BTW I am a huge Randy Rhoads fan, just think he was a little too careless.
Hey crue , did'nt mean to hurt your feeling's .Stick to the motleys or better yet Night-Ranger.You can drool over Brad while you listen to Sister Christian.
@NickxdaxQuick Brad's cool. kicks ass on speak of the devil, I think. But, for someone to say Brad is great! in response to that video is poropostourous and absured. DAMM IT!!!!!!!!!
Brad made the tour manager's head tilt back(in the background) in bliss when he pinched that sweet harmonic at 2:14.(weeping)I spilt my cognac when that beautiful note was hatched!!!Damn you people that don't like this awesome version by Gillis.RIP Randy.Without Randy Ozzy would be playing in a Black Sabbath tribute band.
Ummm...You guys know that Ozzy doesn't write his own lyrics, right...You can think Bob Daisley for that...please do some research before making completely inaccurate comments...vocal melodies are all that Ozzy is capable of creatively.
This is REAL rock, there's no effects like today's stuff, you listen to ozzy or dio and they sound just like they do on there albums, long love great rock music
Not Randy at all! I forget the guys name but he was from Night Ranger! He was filling in after Randy passed! The he did a decent job from a guitar players stand point, the solo just lacked the feeling, but then solos are so personal that you couldn't possibly duplicate Randy Rhoads with the same feeling. There is only one, imitated but never duplicated. RIP Randy Rhoads.
@Jaypiracy, Brad Gillis wasn't trying to "duplicate" Rhoads.. Brad Gillis has his own style also Brad Gillis had only a few days to learn all of the songs for the tour... BTW- I didn't see anyone else with the balls to step in at that time...
Ozzy had the BEST rock voice of all time! Nobody compares.
Some tried to say Dio could sing better. But guess what, just like guitar playing, "high" notes alone does not make the singer. Ozzy's style was way way better than Dio's.
AND I guarantee you that if Ozzy was doing a show and dio doing one a block away, the OZZY SHOW would GET ALL THE PEOPLE and Dio would be left ALONE singing to EMPTY seats!
@90zosoman09 Hate to burst your bubble, but Ozzy didn't write anything. Bob Daisley wrote the first 4 Ozzy records. Geezer Butler did all the lyrics for Sabbath.
@pumarunner88 I'm from Brazil and Ozzy really has a bad reputation around here, most people here like brazilian country music, pop and funk. they think ozzy is crazy and his songs only talk about death. Cuz of media, brazilian people dont know the most of the best of Rock n Roll, like Ozzy, Led Z, Queen, Beatles, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Iron Maiden and a lot more
Few people around here enjoy this kind of music, and I'm one of them
@doutorstarwars I hear you. I was brought up in a fairly conservative environment, and I wouldn't have even guessed that Ozzy made songs like this before I went out and listened to him. I almost got to see him live last January, but my damn car broke down halfway on my trip to see him in Minneapolis... it truly ruined that day, and I cried. I never cry either, but dammit I wanted to see him so badly. Hopefully he tours again soon.
Ozzy sounded really good there...missing Randy though. This is one of those songs where the music that came out of Randy's expression, just brings shivers.
i was at this concert in '82 at the Boston Garden and Brad Gillis blew me away. It was like 10 days after Randy had passed, G-d bless his soul, and this guy literally saved the day with a heroic and memorable tribute to quite possibly THE toughest act to follow in rock and roll history. I had tears in my eyes, stoned, at age 15, and now at 43 I still do!!
@108vasudeva Are are very lucky. Brad was and still is a fantastic guitarist. But it coudln't have been 10 days later, sorry. After Randy died (R.I.P.), they got Bernie Torme from Gillan in, he toured for 6 weeks w. Ozzy, before he left, as he thought it was too difficult and uncomfortable standing up there trying to fill Randy's shoes. Sharon Osbourne had Bernie's hair cut like Randy's, and he had to wear clothes similar to those Randy had been wearing, during the tour, before he died.
@108vasudeva Brad replaced Bernie. Only a few pictures and some bootlegs exsists of Bernie's stint w. Ozzy. He did play the Madison Square Garden gig, that Randy had been looking so much forward to, though. Ozzy apparently called Bernie for Randy a few times during the tour, and I don't blame him, Bernie looked a lot like Randy, after Sharon's "makeover" on him. Bernie played a fender stratocaster, and Randy didn't. Brad here is fantastic, just got this gig on dvd. 'Speak Of The Devil LIVE'. \m/
gillis has some balls for sure. he had to learn about 37 songs in 2 weeks and then be expected to walk into the spot of rhoads had and he pulled it off with integrity and and a very large afro. hats off to him man.
This show never was meant to disrespect the memory of Randy. The songs, the way they are lovingly and though at times not exact on match with the originals, are meant as a homage to the spirit of Randy Rhoads.
good song ozzy

Wow-- this must have been the Diary of a Madman tour when Ozzy was limping along after Randy died. Super rare vid-- how the hell did you get this?

@jbernierjr I meant to say that you can hear sorrow in everyone's playing on this song...surely a tribute to the great loss of Randy Rhoades.

i was at this concert in '82 at the Boston Garden and Brad Gillis blew me away.

In Brad Gillis' defense, he only had 2 days to learn the set list before his first show with Ozzy. I thought he was pretty damn good.
