Hans Zimmer definitely stole from this for the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack. Just saying. Oh, and I'm playing this in one of my orchestras. OH YEAH!!
Forget all your mangas, this is music with pure power! I personally DO like manga and anime and also Rhapsody of Fire, but why to put it here still and all around? Just let the music play, this is the original! Feel the energy it has. I bet that the conductor and musicians are all in trance when performing this piece.
oh my word. I played this symphony last year, and this movement came up in the background of One Piece! It bothered me cuz I couldn't remember the name D: i've been searching for this for a couple of hours, was so glad the top comment was a one piece reference XD now if only the composers in history actually named their music >_>
Out of all 'classical' music I listen to this is by far the best! The melody is awesomely catchy!!!! I can't help humming it under my breath!!! Yeah, people must think I'm crazy, but it's freaking AWESOME!!!!! People who don't appreciate it --> YOU SUCK!!!!
Yes Karel Ancerl was remarkable interpretation, really good and I listened it long time ago, but there is another of Enrrique Jorda on the seventies also remarkable, very good.
This performance is the most remarkable that I have listen in my entire life, powerful, clean, precise, strong, armonious, like a big storm, !!!Remarkable!!!, I listen other performances with Arturo Toscanini, Enrrique Jorda, Otto Klemperer.....etc, but this performance is the best.
!!!!Extraordinary!!! Mr Von Karajan extraordinary conductor+Wiener Philarmonic Orchestra+ Dvorak. Superb!!!!

he may have been a great conductor but in the mid 30s he joined the nazi party. when i learned that, i destroyed any music files/CDs and replaced them with other conductors and guess what? the others do a great job!
@stoneroo so? picasso beated his wife, he still is one of the greatest!, we should not take artist for who they are, or take them as roll models, we eould all end up cutting our ears to send them to our girlfriends or commiting suicide, we should take them for what they left for mankind. Besides you should do a little research, nazi ideals where not that far away from many others' including even if you dont like it, the USA, whichs racism is well known, they just took it to another level
@fvmb001 maybe you should commit suicide - making excuses for nazis? comparing them to picasso. you are an idiot. when other conductors fled germany, von karajan joined the nazis because he believed their trash and wanted to advance his career. among the worst of the worst as a person regardless of his talent as an artist.
@watermelon2014 - dvorak died - he wasn't a nazi - von karajan croaked in 1989
Karajan joined the Nazi Party in Salzburg on 8 April 1933; his membership number was 1,607,525. In June 1933, the Nazi Party was outlawed by the Austrian government. However, Karajan's membership was valid until 1939. In that year the former Austrian members were verified by the general office of the Nazi Party.
@stoneroo sorry, i read "composer" not "conductor" by accident. I reread your comment right after i posted mine and realized my mistake, so I deleted mine, hoping it wouldn't go through to you, but it did. :(
The Weiner Philharmonic is so incredible! I don't even know how they play with so much precision and skill. It is almost robotic, but they have so much expression! SImply one of the best orchestras and conductors ever!!
Dislike! Not because of Karajan (duh!), but because of the uploader! Where is the ending dude? Why not split the movement into two less-than-10min parts? What you did here is plain mean! It's such a shame :(
Does no-one care that this piece has been cut short? Drives me insane seeing as there doesn't seem to be a 'part 2' available here. Thankfully someone else has uploaded this movement as conducted by Karajan in its entirety. Beautiful piece, though!
@jaimegranada3 I refer you to my post down below on the comments section. It's in two parts, sadly, but it's complete in the sense that every drop of Dvorak goodness combined with Karajan conducting is there available for one to savour.
john williams uses alot of dvorak in his own music, to name a few, jaws (as previously mentioned), jurrasic park, but i personally would say the most distinctive use of sampling across the two composers would be between movement 4 of the 9th symphony and john williams throne room theme off the end of episode 4
for this piece, i think there should be as much brass as possible, which leads me to thinking how awesome it woulda been if karajan directed this piece with Gustav Holst's old orchestra. u guys know? the one that he directed Mars with?
@SeraphThanatos No kidding, he's got the parkinsons disease shaky hands going on! And since he just had a stroke he can't lift up his damn hands and conduct like this piece deserves!
@LordoftheHobbits You do understand that a good conductor does not mean that they can wave their arms around like nuts and sway back and forth right? A good conductor is one that encourages the orchestra to put their heart to the music, to express the emotions that they find in the piece, and to produce music (not notes. Music.) So honestly, even if Karajan can't move his hands so well, no one gives a crap. The music is still beautiful, and he's a brilliant conductor.
@timissuperamazing All I'm saying, is watch this piece by The Dublin Philharmonic. In my opinion, their conductor does a far better job. He clearly brings out the best, the passion and the intensity, that this symphony deserves.
