hmm someone is a lier he said he uses that hard drive to store all his photos then he says its a new hard drive and still needs to be formatted is he lies about a silly thing like that what els dose he lie about.. hmmmm.
Heck ya man, that's what I do at college. I run World of Warcraft off my external Hard Drive. You can even do it on a 32gb flash drive, but that's a bit more expensive.
i need help i have a harddrive that was used in a computer and i might buy one of these but do you have to formant if it was used in say a ps3? or is there a way i can make it so that i dont loss all my data when i format :( I NEED HELP!
say i go buy an external hard drive, could i install ...say windows xp, since windows is bootable from the hard drive anyway.
My coputer can boot from a usb flash drive, however that was linux on that flash drive. but i dont see why it cant boot from an external hard drive, and i would have to format fat32.
you probably may be able to do it but not with usb i think. you should be able to do it if it has a e-sata connection.
when you are installing the OS and you reach the "Hard Drive Disk" option screen, all you need to do is format it and the installing-OS will format the hdd to what ever file system it uses. However, some OS have additional things you have to do; Windows (just select the drive and format it), Ubuntu (format to ext journal 3 or 4 and create a swap portion of at least 1 GB), etc.
my laptop want show my hard drive in my computer it show in the hard drive in the hard ware device window what can i do to make my laptop show the hard drive so i can use it and my hard drive i new it was seal in the new bag i had to cut the bag
A brand new hard drive has to be formatted for either Windows or Mac. If it has already been used previously, it won't have to be formatted unless it's going to be used on a different OS.
Yeah somewhat correct, 3 Gigabit/S is merely the maximum transfer allowed by the SATA2 standard, in real world conditions a drive would never hit this, I would say results of around 80MB/S would be in the ballpark for a 7200rpm drive utilizing eSATA.
lol at the edit. he clicked quick format but then unchecked it so it wasn't actually doing a quick format. But the joys of non live video allowed for a cheaky cut/edit :d
No, quick format doesn't format the drive properly and so you don't end up with a good drive. The best way is to be patient and wait while the full format finishes.
This is simply not true, both options are as good as each other. A standard format takes a long time because it runs a disk check (chkdsk) before formatting. A quick format skips that disk check - if you know the drive works with no problems, there is no harm in doing a quick format. Saying 'you don't end up with a good drive' is a hallmark of someone that doesn't know what they are talking about.
That's what most people think. It makes sence thinking why, but it runs a dick checker that checks EVERY single byte on it. Even quick format for my 1.5 TB hard drive took minutes.
@xsonicbladex : USB(2.0) has a max. transfering-rate of 480 Mega-Bits(!) per Second, which are 60 Mega-Bytes(!) per Second (USB hardly ever reaches that maximum). eSata(2.0), which is equal to SATA(2.0) (only the plug is different due to the physical stability) has a max. transferring-rate of 3 Giga-Bits per Second, which means maximum rate of 384 Mega-Bytes per Second (but doesn't get over ca. 300 MB/s).
and every Harddrive you can buy is faster than USB, because the slowest (3,5 ") Harddrive you could buy has an IDE-Interface which transfers 133 MB per Second (so it makes no sense to put a SATA HDD in an USB-only case). It's obvious that USB is much slower than a harddrive (which is then called "bottleneck").
Ya Ya, I know, I just did not word that well. The bottleneck is actually the speed of the drive, unless it's a velociraptor or and SSD. Most hard drives don't do over 30 megs read/write.
Benchmarking of my Harddrives shows an average speed of ca. 100 MBytes/s (SATA) and 55 MBytes/s (IDE) ... so my HDDs are exceptions ? No, I don't think so: My IDE-harddrive is 5 years old (160 GB) and my SATA-harddrive is 2 years old (250 GB) - both from Samsung.
Yes..as long as the game are portable, this thing is like a flash drive but more bigger storage and ultra fast file transfer!! it is a hard drive inside your computer but just outside!
I've got a question. I know you said that it's plug 'n play with computers, but if I wanted to put videos, pictures or music on it, could it be pluged into an xbox, via usb, to play the media on the tv? Like with a usb pin drive.

I have a ridiculous 1,000,000 terabytes of memmory on my gigantic fake computer, & on my other computer I have a drunk Amy Winehouse who wont leave me alone. :/ I called a technician to see if he could somehow remove her from my computer. Yes, I would just like to recommend removing this video from youtube and definitely not hosting it on Tiger's main website Logan. The reason is you stated "300 Gbits" as the data speed possible. I am sure you misread the prompter or something, but SATA II transfers at rates of 300 Mbits or 3.0 Gbits.
;) Also, please recommend to use screws to the customers...
I have a hdd from my old desktop pc. I couldn't log on anymore cause it was saying i had a damaged or corrupted file in the windows32 folder.. I couldn't fix it, the pc doesn't boot up properly due to damaged IDE connector on the motherboard. I got a new desktop pc, I wanna recover the files from the hdd but can't seem to because the files were in folders on the desktop and not in other locations of the hard drive. Is there hope for me to recover those folders on the desktop?
the video didn't tell u that there is a fire risk of putting the hard drive a case without a fan. within an hour of a high capacity disk being used in one of these cases , it will burn and damage your disk , never buy one of these without a fan
Acually nice with a eSATA bracket, but the case seems to be in plastic(?). But these days an external drive is about the same price given a reasonable popular size. And the speed difference between (e)SATA and EIDE are negligible for 99% of the time and uses (long term storage). The Seagate FreeAgent Desktop USB 500GB (or Pro for eSATA) would be my quiet and cheap choice :)
are there any recommendations for portable cheap external hard drives

I like; that eSata is a nice feature. I HIGHLY recommend Ultra.
I should pick-up one of these things because I need some additional storage for my computer.
