Shutter Island is real masterpiece - great acting, directing, producing, everything. Some moments were even scary. Leonardo DiCaprio is real master (Leo acts even better than Johnny Depp). Ben Kingsley and Mark Ruffalo were great as well but I don't understand why so many people found the ending unpredictable. I predicted the ending after first 20-30 minutes. This movie is masterpiece but not as unpredictable as The Others, The Game, Identity, Fight Club, Cube 2 or The Prestige

@jozrok weren't you listening at the end? the doctor said that they thought that if they played along with him and role played his fake story with him, they could explain reality to him and he might become sane again. he wasn't in chains, nobody told him, and he's not wearing the same clothes cause that would interfere with his story as a marshall. the reason he came through on a boat in the beginning was so he could live through his story and think that everything he's thinking is real.
if he really was insane why didnt they just show him his birth cirtificate or ask them to show them his birth cirtficate or to prove who his fathers are and where they live to prove he wasnt insane or sane

This was defiantly a great movie! I loved the ending, Chuck actually reminded me of Boston Rob from survivor for some reason which amused me even more :)

K so I read the book before seeing the movie and the director did a fantastic job taking the book and bringing it to real life. It was excellent, and kind of weird for me bc I knew what was going to happen, so i got to see it in a different perspective. I'd categorize it as a thriller.
Regarding this movie's genre, would it be considered Psychological? I personally don't like Horror/Suspense, so I just wanted a clarification in that area...
this movie was okay, maybe a 6/10 at the HIGHEST. you also forgot to mention that it is EXACTLY like the movie named THE UNINVITED, which was just made last year. and by the way, for all the people that do not know what happened in the end or are still confused, he knew he was crazy and didn't want to live with the fact that he had murdered his wife, so they let them scramble his brains, just clearing things up for you guys. also, watch THE UNINVITED and you will see that this movie is a ripoff.

at first i was so scared to see the movie...cause i just DON't DO scary movies, but my mom dragged me into it anyways(love her still!). I gotta say it definately wasn't as scary as I thought it would be...i just found the movie to be completely confuzing. My mom and I are completely puzzled by it nd were still discussing the plot of the movie trying to figure things out. Haha..yeah. It was portrayed as sort of being a horror movie. It was more a very deep psychological thriller. I had to pay a lot of attention to details to piece things together before the ending because, like you mentioned in your review, it's a pretty lengthy film. I also agree that Leonardo D. C. had an outstanding performance. I don't usually say that about celebs... but he made the plot very personal and believable. Overall I'd give it a 8.5 out of 10.
i really liked it. i was engaged the whole time but this is NOT a popcorn movie! you really have to concentrate cuz it takes u on some twists and turns!! i didnt feel like it was too long. i mean it was LONG but it didnt annoy me. leo was AMAZING!!! i wish this had come out in time for him to be nominated for awards!! the twist ending broke my heart. i absolutely did not see it coming. but i think im gonna watch it again and see what i missed in the first veiwing. overall id give it a 9/10!!

I was hoping youd do a poiler part of the movie for those of us who had seen it. I agree with the length being too long although i was captivated throughout it. a catch 22. however im not sure if the ending is made for us to believe that he was infact a patient or he just decided he couldnt fight controversey going on and sacrificed himself almost. Im researching it to death now like i did with paranormal activity but i though the film was brilliant. very good script.
the ending was strange to me too. in the book andrew (teddy) understands who he is and recovers...like in the movie...but then he becomes a resident at shutter island, basically living a normal life. I thought the ending in the movie was an interesting change and actually a lot cooler than the ending in the book. I think it speaks more about the character =))

I just saw it and I thought it was scary seriously. I was jumping out of my skin. I wasn't sure about the whole gorey-ness of it all tbh. But I must say the acting was top notch.

I agree that the movie was pretty fantastic, it keep me thinking the whole time. I also did feel that it was a bit long, but i believe that added on to the suspense and mystery to the movie. I loved all the acting i felt that it was a prefect cast. Great movie over all, Better then I expeceted :)

K so I read the book before seeing the movie and the director did a fantastic job taking the book and bringing it to real life. It was excellent, and kind of weird for me bc I knew what was going to happen, so i got to see it in a different perspective. I'd categorize it as a thriller.

this movie was okay, maybe a 6/10 at the HIGHEST. you also forgot to mention that it is EXACTLY like the movie named THE UNINVITED, which was just made last year. and by the way, for all the people that do not know what happened in the end or are still confused, he knew he was crazy and didn't want to live with the fact that he had murdered his wife, so they let them scramble his brains, just clearing things up for you guys. also, watch THE UNINVITED and you will see that this movie is a ripoff.

I cant decide whether it WAS actually real that he actually did kill his wife and was actually crazy, OR if he really WAS a detective and he WASN'T insane?!?! I still don't know. And what was with the end with the lighthouse shot? SO confusing! I kinda wish for some reason that he wasn't crazy and that he actually was a detective but that would mean that he got tricked and died even when he was right...sorry for my rant. ...spectacular, especially the part in the lighthouse with his partner and the creepy doctor, and he has the gun and he's like, "Dont move, dont move!!" That was awesome!! I was so into it. Wow im writing alot. Love Leo and I thought it was an awesome movie that I will definitely have to see again!! :D

at first i was so scared to see the movie...cause i just DON't DO scary movies, but my mom dragged me into it anyways(love her still!). I gotta say it definately wasn't as scary as I thought it would be...i just found the movie to be completely confuzing. My mom and I are completely puzzled by it nd were still discussing the plot of the movie trying to figure things out. Haha..yeah. Leonardo did a GREAT job for the role that he had, however, and i completly agree with that.

It was portrayed as sort of being a horror movie. It was more a very deep psychological thriller. I had to pay a lot of attention to details to piece things together before the ending because, like you mentioned in your review, it's a pretty lengthy film. I also agree that Leonardo D. C. had an outstanding performance. I don't usually say that about celebs... but he made the plot very personal and believable. Overall I'd give it a 8.5 out of 10.

i really liked it. i was engaged the whole time but this is NOT a popcorn movie! you really have to concentrate cuz it takes u on some twists and turns!! i didnt feel like it was too long. i mean it was LONG but it didnt annoy me. leo was AMAZING!!! i wish this had come out in time for him to be nominated for awards!! the twist ending broke my heart. i absolutely did not see it coming. but i think im gonna watch it again and see what i missed in the first veiwing. overall id give it a 9/10!!

the editing was bad at some parts but it didn't really stick out during the entire film... i guess you can say the plot was scattered, but that's really what makes the movie work...like if the plot wasn't scattered then the ending wouldn't have made any sense...and im probably not making any sense to you unless you've seen it

boring movie and I was so excited. Not really much anxiety. think the sixth sense meets identity. Thats about it....It was well done but kinda dull it looked good but you dont really care. Its close to cape fear without being able to relate to the characters.

yah i agree. i also saw a special screening of the movie because i have a good friend who's father works on movies, and her father did shutter island.
overall i thought it was pretty good, but i don't think something i would see again. yes and it was too long and kind of dull at points.

i LOVED this movie! yes it wasnt extremely scary....but i LOVED the twist! as confusing as it was..i thought that was amazing how it all tied together! if you like mysteries it would definitely be a great movie but if u dont like thinking about things then its not really for u.

I was hoping youd do a poiler part of the movie for those of us who had seen it. I agree with the length being too long although i was captivated throughout it. a catch 22. however im not sure if the ending is made for us to believe that he was infact a patient or he just decided he couldnt fight controversey going on and sacrificed himself almost. Im researching it to death now like i did with paranormal activity but i though the film was brilliant. very good script.

the ending was strange to me too. in the book andrew (teddy) understands who he is and recovers...like in the movie...but then he becomes a resident at shutter island, basically living a normal life. I thought the ending in the movie was an interesting change and actually a lot cooler than the ending in the book. I think it speaks more about the character =))
