The Meaning of Good Friday

The Messiah kept the Passover with His disciples the night before His death

(Luke 22:15). He died on the cross the next afternoon, which was still Passover (the 14th of Abib or Nisan ,according to the Hebrew Calendar (Leviticus 23:5). Leviticus 23:6-7 shows that the next day, beginning the evening after His crucifixion, was not a weekly Sabbath, but an annual Sabbath (The first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread).

A correction. There are no Masses celebrated on Good Friday. There are Holy Communion Services with the Eucharist from Holy Thursday's Mass of the Lord's Supper and Veneration of the Cross, but no Masses on Good Friday.

Reading Daniel 9:25 we know that in Daniel 9:27 the end of all sacrifices and offerings (which is the death of The Christ) was in the "middle" of the week. Reading it is as plain as day light. And we know Daniel always counted the Sabbath day at the sun set of the 6th day to the sun set of the 7th day or the Roman calendars saturday. That means The Christ died during the eve of a third day, or a Roman wednesday. John 20:1 a dark saturday eve Mary notice The Christ was gone. So Y claim friday?

I think a Thursday

The Jews went by a lunar calendar, we go by a solar calendar.

Their days started at around sundown of our days (it's weird, but cool)

The way I understand it is that Jesus was in the ground:

Thursday night-Friday morning- Friday night- Saturday morning- Saturday night- Sunday morning

That is 3 days and 3 nights

Our solar Thursday night is the beginning of their lunar Friday morning

I just learned about the lunar calender, that is why I re said what other people are saying

Common Species, i don't know what bible you have, but in mine there is no Mark 28:1. Mark only has 16 Chapters. It is my understanding that in the time and place of Jesus' death, days began at sundown. Therefore, day one was when he died on good friday, day two (saturday) was the sabbath, and then sunday was easter.

That is not a day of light. The begining of His time IN the grave is night, the first night. I can't count 3 days AND 3 nights doing it your way. Matt.28:1 the first morning of the week(sunday) He is has risen. Even if you count the whole day friday and saturday till sunday morning that is not 3 days and 3 nights.

i think your just miss under stading it. the reason they call it "Good Friday" is because he was crucified to save all humans. he bore the sin of all man kind when he was crucified and he went to hell and defeated Satan and rose again on the third day, "Easter". that is why it is called "good Friday".
