the real answer is...

normal gearbox is using helical gears hence was more quiter than race gearbox/tranny...this is because race tranny utilizing straight-cut gear inside...noisy but more efficient...

Gearboxes with tight meshes whine like that. Since a tight mesh is a good one most(read: all I've seen) racing transmissions will whine.

They were quick but they weren't that quick. F1 cars of that era were the turbo cars which had up to 1600bhp.

Only BMW M12 engine produced 1300 Bhp in One qualification session.

1986 M12 engine was said to produce about 1,300 bhp (969 kW) in qualifying.

But in Race is produced 900Bhp...About 200-300Bhp more than Competitors

Ford DFR 3.5 L V8 producing 585 Bhp (436 kW) at 11000 rpm.

Honda RA168E turbo V6 producing 685 Bhp (511 kW) at 12500 rpm in qualification.

The argument remains that F1 cars of that era ran more than 750bhp as quoted by fnordist.

I read only for 1300Bhp in ONE qulifaing session,but i think that 1500Hp is also possible...M12 is great engine.

M10 block is good but old,and heavy.Diference between M10 and M12,also S14(M3 e 30) are quite Small if we talk about Block architecture,and Totally different if we compare internals and heads...also other stuff's are different.

M12 Is fantastic...I agree 100% with you,best of from Europe...Pure German engineering !
