We are not even required to have affection for the Monarchy, what is required is that we value the institution. The word "nation" is lazily used to describe sovereign entities, but it is not technically a correct definition.

In that way Scotland is a nation; but not a state. It could also be argued that the United Kingdom is not a nation (a collection of nations) but a state.

Yes that is true. The point is regarding the colour. The Flag of St Andrew is the Saltire. It is used not just in Scotland, but in disparate places such as Croatia, Russia and Tenerife.

It is the colour that is wrong. Compare the blue of the Union Flag with the Blue of the Saltire. Dark blue and light blue respectively. The blue colour of the Saltire is stipulated as Pantone 300. The Blue of the Union flag is not that colour.

The people of Scotland need to change and grab their own future instead of, psychologically speaking, acting as if they are some sort of charity case to the UK. Even if there were some financial problems with independence, the UK is borrowing money to balance its budget at the moment.
