Mickey Rourke is one of the greatest actors in history of Hollywood. Rourke had lost the passion for his profession in the 90s. That´s the reason he dont´t become a name like de Niro. A shame that he never won a Oscar.
Eric Roberts was also very good at this film. Roberts had also not the luck to be at top of Hollywood.
sweet, eric roberts and mickey rourke are in the expendables movie 2010, check it out with sylvester stallone, posting fan made videos about the stars from the movie on idea girl consulting word press, taking a trip down memory lane, LOVE the 80s :)
There have been 2 films starring Mickey Rourke based on novels I'd already read. This was one of them. The other is "Kill Shot" based on the Elmore Leonard novel of the same title. "Pope..." gave us young Mickey Rourke; "Kill Shot" the 'now' Mickey. It's like watching 2 different people but he was great in both of them. 20 yrs ago was the breezy, ultra-cool dude; now he's a perfect menacing 'heavy', the ultimate bad-ass. Watch "Kill Shot" and see what I mean. The guy is a great actor.
Great movie. Mickey said that the original director wanted to let Eric loose and Mickey went to the head guys and instead of letting Eric go, they canned the director. Awesome loyalty. Glad to see him back, go Mickey. Thanks for posting.
I saw this the other night, absolute classic and I can see where DeNiro got a lot of his ideas for Goodfellas. The way Mickey acts in this and the way DeNiro acts in Goodfellas is identical. 'What did I tel you? .What did I tell you? Wassa matter with you? Excuse me? Excuse me? What did you say to me?" ...Stuff like that, same lines and everything.
StChiara...celebrities ARE fair game. Why? Because when we make comments about them they're almost never actually TO them. Comments and observations are written to and read by US, not the celebrity. Come on now....making fun of this celebrity's many face lifts or that celebrity's overdoing the collagen and botox is American sport. But I still say you need to lay off the meth.
What are you too scared to reply to me? I knew I couldnt put that past you..Fair game,whatever..its whatever you want to call it alright? Changes nothing. The fact is, its just pure jealousy on your part. Not one of us out here struggling around the dimes knows what the fuck we'd do had we all we all the money and resources celebrities do. And you're so fucking full of shit if you think you're above ANY of it..Observation my ass, you wanna observe something? Try your own reflection first asshole.
Yeah. Definitely. It's the meth talking. I've responded to a lot of YouTube postings and you're probably in the top 5 out-of-control personalities I've seen. You should think about prescription meds and definitely get off that methamphetamine. You really seem to be in full-time tweak mode.
And that based on your experiance? I'll tell you whats been mine, people like you who start out attempting a point, get the book thrown at em, then attempt to save face much like you're doing now by going completely off of a topic at all and onto full-INSULT mode..let it go alright, you can still hold onto some dignity. Its a fact, you're done, let it go.
What are you talking about? I responded to you a long time ago, you just didn't like my answer. It's ridiculous to think that people who make remarks about celebrities do it because they're jealous. I do it because it's fun to set whackos like you off.
Yeah there goes the little tactic, that train's NEVER late. You didnt REPLY to me, you just posted a comment IN RESPONSE TO ME so that it'd look like I saw your comment and shit my pants and stayed silent (which is the only reason you're still talking, because you're desperate to save face) You just thought I was gonna sit back and wait for a reply alert.
Are you completely out of your fucking mind? Do you honestly think I care about saving face? You need meds, man. Think now...I don't know you from a hole in the ground. Why would I give a fat rat's rabid ass what you think? I'm just answering you because you seem so excitable that I'm hoping you may eventually do something really rash here. I'm kind of hoping for maybe slitting your wrists or you jumping out the window while tweaking on that meth you're obviously doing way too much of.
YOU dont care about saving face.okay, maybe I've just beenIMAGINING all your responses and your veering off topic and off of a point you never had and onto nothing but little reaching insults. YOU DONT KNOW ME FROM A HOLE IN THE GROUND YET THAT LITTLE METH INSULT OF YOURS IS SUPPOSED TO DRAW SOME SORT OF APPRECIATION? This isnt about what I think asshole and no one with half a brain is stupid enough to NOT know that...a point is a point no matter who's mouth is comes outta.
rickcee, why dont you go google my screename and find all the little spats I've been into on youtube, you'll find that you're nothing clever, guy...you operate the same way as everyone else, you burned all your bases here pal your little last resort is the same as everyone elses , saying this is just fun for you, that you're KICKING your feet up and laughing while I'm worked up, yet meanwhile its so fun for you that you waste no time in keeping an eye on the argument and replying yourself.
I don't have to keep an eye on anything. I get a Google alert that it's in my email. Easy enough to monitor. Are you feeling like jumping out that window yet? Come on...do just a little more crystal. I'm sure you'll feel like flying in a minute or two. Open the window. That's it. Now, keep telling yourself, "I CAN FLY!!!"
Same desperation, only you're getting no funnier. Yeah and you know WHY you're getting alerts? Because I'm no big cat like you are, you big PUSSY...when I got something to say to you, I LET YOU KNOW ABOUT IT..You're telling me that with your persistance that if I did what you did and just posted a reply IN RESPONSE to you, that you wouldnt be back here to check just to save some face?LOL,sure guy..that makes perfect sense, you've put yourself in a bit of a corner that doesnt allow that to be so.
What a transformation, huh? That pretty face to the monster who played Ram in the Wrestler. Whoa...just incredible what drugs, booze, steroids will do to ya'.
You are a very angry person. I was just sayin'.... why would you take it personally? Celebrities are fair game. I'd never insult a "real" person. But you have to admit he's been through some kind of otherworldly transformation. Oh, and StChiara....you really should knock off the crystal meth. It'll make you less angry.
What were you expecting? Hugs and kisses from all the Mickey Rourke fans?Celebrities are fair game? I guess their envious lifestyles, otherwise 'humanly' vices, and struggles displayed for the world under lense and spotlight make them such. With how good they have it why, we just DESERVE to take cheap shots at them from behind a computer screen, right? Btw, all that mess prior to the 'crystal meth' joke attempt wouldve sufficed, your last sentance makes you sound like a child.
Rourke is great. Never trusted his own ability and intelligence enough which is echoed in this film trailer. Nobody ever did much for him either. Hes just quite a hero really.
A true classic ....most under rated movie ever -- LOVE when Mickey Rourke says to Burt Young " You may the priest of this Chapel -- but I'M the Pope of Greenwhich Village ".......ALL time favorite movie !
They were praising this film on the Howard Stern show this morning. They said it is cinematic genius. I can't believe I've never seen it. I'm a huge film freak and I'm buying this today!!!!!!!
"Charlie, I Own a Piece of a Thoroughbred, Horses Can Have Babies By Artificial Insperation Too, Man!"....LoL! To Me, It Is One Of The Greatest Movies Ever Made. It Told You a Story, and as a Male, You can Relate to these Characters. Being The "Pope" Has its Advantages!
no ,the book was the best ever .the movie was a bit disappointing. but cause of the recent mickey rourke comeback i want to see the movie again for nostaliga
was watching this last night. My favorite part is the goombas in their suites playing stick ball in that playground with "Summer Wind" playing in the background. LOL
One of our "all time favorites" as well....they should "definitely" do another movie together.....sorry, I have to repeat that classic line...."Chaaaaaaarlie - they took my thumb" .........hope to see more of Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts in the future...how about a new version of the Sopranos?.....did notice that some of the Soprano actors were in the "Pope......"Summer Wind" great song...
Sinatra's "The Summer Wind" has never been put to better use than it was in the opening and closing credits of this film, and Mickey Rourke was every bit as cool as Frank's voice.
Outstanding job by Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts -- two of my favorite actors since the 1980's. Thanks for the memories, and congrats to Mickey Rourke for the recognition that was long overdue.
i can't believe that trailor didn't show the part where he kicks that guy in the ass in front of OTB after he offered him a job as a waiter...that was great !!

Loved to see a remake. Though with the right actors. Rourke is brilliant, Roberts is okay. But it could have been more.
