LOLZ!!!! Perusing you-tube late at night for XTC songs; find a live recording I've never seen before and LOVE!!!! After viewing it twice I look up and lo and behold its on the channel of my my friend of over 33 years....I fucking love XTC but love you more Hardie.... :D
The three best XTC records, hands down are: Black Sea, English Settlement and The Big Express. My cave songs off of all three are: BS Respectable Street, ES Yacht Dance and TBE Sea Gulls Screaming Kiss Her, Kiss Her and I Bought Myself A Liarbird heck let cop to it, every song on all three records is gold!!! NOTE: English Settlement would be the import.
@chimptor50 Replace Big Express with Skylarking and we're on the same page. I only like about 4 songs from Big Express: All Of You Pretty Girls, Shake You Donkey Up, Seagulls, and Lyrebird. Skylarking, on the other hand, is pretty much flawless from start to finish, save for "Dying", which I never really dug.
Why the Talking Heads, with their tepid easy-does-it quirks that were substantially based on a Dick Tracy-esque jacket with rigid shoulder pads became a household name and these guys did not is the pinnacle of injustice
... or maybe not. The way I understand it, Andy Partridge was afflicted with 'crippling stage-fright'. I can relate! Anyway, no reason to bag on the heads, man!
I'm curious, do most people in Britain know XTC? Are they remembered for what an amazing band ther were/are? I'm a Yank and it will always bother me that they didn't become much much bigger in America. Obviously, refusing to continue touring didn't help their success but good God, what a truly great fucking band! I doubt Andy really even cares but they should have been huge!
In the recording session of this song, Andy was not capable to play the guitar and sing at the same time. But here he looks so happy. In the last week I have been playing all my XTC albums (yeah, vinyl, CDs and MP3) and I am in love again with this great band.
guys kids these days have George Bush, World wars, depopulation, pandemics, Britney Spears. Count yourselves lucky! You can play this to them and hopefully they're get inspired and give us a world to look forward too!
@Ganbareg No, You're just not hearing what's good today. Most good music today isn't really in the mainstream. Don't get me wrong because XTC were fantastic and are one of my favorites. And I didn't realize just how skilled Dave is at playing guitar, Check 2:54.

This is a pinnacle in pop history, like "Rocket from a bottle" Partridge has found a combination of unbridled joy in tune and words. Genius!

The Greatest Song, from the Greatest Band of all Time (IMHO)..... I was an outcast in the states for beating the XTC drum.
pixie4916 2 years ago
could be worse. You could be George Bush and Obama beating the drum for world when the rest of us just want to drink tea and write good songs!
