looked like they would've got 300 feet if they released earlier, and some people listed some better ideas of how to make it go even further, seems they should've looked more into it before wasting 50 bottles of coke :P. Anticlimactic is all Im saying :( . I expected a WOOOOSHHH
i once made a coke geyzer and it shot 16ft in the air no lie. i no cuz me n my fren were tryin to find out how far it wud go so we got an RC helicopter and stuck the tape measure in to the end and so we pulled t down and it wuz like 16ft sumthin inches
@entertainmentsteve no, they lauched it some seconds later to make the aceleration grown before it starts moving; and yes, objects can be acelerated without being in movement, but only instantanely
You'd get better distance if the mento's stream was directed against a turbine that drove the wheels instead of just against a wall, if you can produce a constant pressure stream you could get some good distance, use the rocket blast against the wall to get moving, then use the turbine stream to keep the momentum up, just something to think about ... ;-)
You are going to need exactly 5,750,000,000 (5 billion 750 million) mentos and 1,562,782,000 (1 billion 562 million) coke zero bottles to lift a human sized aircraft with the exaust pipe to the first layer of the atmosphere
well u would of have more feet because since the man was sitting on the car it apply pressure and that why it didn't go that far(i dont look like that far 2 me)
Yes! My son tried to make a small scale model car that used Coke+Mentos for propulsion as a science fair project last year. Didn't think about the backstop! (Sadly, his failed to move more than an inch or two; tried a single two-liter bottle and two one-liter bottles; both 'plain' (ingenious "drop mentos then let bottle flop backwards to be the rocket" mechanism,) as well as through a narrower nozzle. The backstop really would have helped.
Folks, this is going to change the world! No longer will we have to pay middle-eastern countries for their overpriced energy-inefficient oil! Our energy crisis is solved!
If they could have figured out a way to load those bottles horizontally they would have made more speed and more distance... they stripped a lot of power by using a manifold system. Still cool video.
What i find funny is the fact that the dude wore a helmet. Indeed i'm sure that handling a vehicle incorporating the use of Coke Zero-Mentos Solubility Propulsion Systems has a high probability of it's handler being prone to head trauma. Lulz.
Maybe should have opened bottles in "stages" instead of all at once... Power was lost waiting for the release lever. I bet it could farther... Really great job guys
Actually if you want to go on the moon like that you will need more pressure, and replace the diet coke by Champagne Dom Perignan. I hope you don't have wasted all your money in diet coke.
Does this make you feel better about $2.60/gallon gas right now? How much would it cost (in Mentos and Coke) to power a trip to California from Florida? Ohh the sticky streets we'd leave behind!

Why'd they pull it and then unhook it? They should of had the bike unhooked and then pulled it. They lost half of their forward force.
ThundaFrumDownUnda 1 year ago 3
@ThundaFrumDownUnda they were letting the pressure build in the tubes until the reaction was mostly under way.
it gets its "forward force" by the rods inside of the tubes pushing against the wall. it's technically not a rocket lol
