  • I find that this modern style painting goes so wonderfully with the almost modern interpretation of this piece.

  • Are you sure this is the Cleveland Quartet? They don't have this recording listed in their discography (only the quarter 76/5).

  • @r5cpt Yes, it says that on the LP sleeve and record label.

  • @bartje11 Thank you very much! That which you have is impossible to buy. I love how the Cleveland quartet plays these Haydn Op 76 quartets. I tried to search on their website, but they only seem to have the Op 76 No. 5 on CD. I searched far and wide, and could not find anything else. I like Kodály quartet's performance of the Op. 76, but this is better.

Take good care of that LP :)

By the way, in which year was it recorded? The Cleveland quartet went through 3 or 4 different reincarnations.

  • @r5cpt The LP comes from the Time-Life Series, Great Men of Music. It has 4 LP's in the box plus a quite nice booklet with extensive background info. The String Quartet is on Side Five (after Piano Sonata 50) , with Symphony No. 88 on the backside. It has been recorded and published in 1976 by Time-Life but recorded by RCA

  • @bartje11 I found this website listing the Time-life albums: (but I cannot put a link here, apparently). It seems it was a set of 120 records in total, with very detailed booklet for each composer. It seems like Time-Life invested a lot of effort in this series.

Sadly, it seems it has not been transitioned to CD format, like many other recordings that exist on LP only. Shame.

As I said, hold on to those records, for at least this Cleveland quartet recording is unique.

  • O_O i have to listen to this 4 theory, i cant tell which part is theme 1 or theme 2 or where the codetta is or any of the other parts!!! ~siggghhhh~

  • @katyluvstaylorl Just chill back with a doobie and let the music wash over your ears. The more you listen to it, the more you'll understand it.

  • @mightyafrowhitey haha my listening skillz r horrible

  • Utterly wicked! Fabulous Haydn and wonderful Cleveland.
