i live in münich and the reason y the bear isnt just so expensive but also so famous is because it 1liter and 14% alc and i say abfer 3 u cant feel mutch :P
The men's restrooms have "troughs" so the men can line up and pee at the same time. It is very efficient. People who are "pee shy" sometimes go into culture shock. But we have "troughs" here in Texas too at the old dance halls, so we are used to it.
lol, what do they have for the women?..one big hole in the bathroom floor with a screen over top?..so they can all line up and squat lol..there's an idea
lol Well it's not ALL troughs. There are also many individual stalls, if you are pee shy or if you have to do a number 2, you can use one of those. The women don't have troughs of course, and have individual stalls, but their lines are longer and move more slowly, just like they do here.
Are the lines to bathrooms miles long? How do you not have to piss every 30 minutes while downing steins left and right? How are the places where you can just pitch a tent and camp around there? (I'm a poor college student) I dont think I could afford a hotel room. How much are the beers?
The lines are rather short for the men, because the men's toilets are rather... simple. But you'll get used to it pretty soon and won't need to go that often. (You just sweat it out...)
There's no way you can pitch a tent on the Oktoberfest itself. A hotel room is expensive, but there are also cheap rooms ("Easy Hotel" and hostels), but they're booked by now, I guess. The beers are rather outrageously expensive, this yeat the official beer price is between 8.10 and 8.60 Euros per Litre-Jug.
julian. 8.10 and 8.60 for a liter of good beer would be considered a bargain here. When you go to a festival here in Texas or the USA, you pay $4.00 - $5.00 for a little plastic cup of beer, that is maybe 1/3 of a liter.
That's shocking! I've been told the exact same thing by an American relative of mine on the Oktoberfest, too. On the other hand, half a litre of beer is about 70 to 80 cents in the supermarket, which gives a Maß (1 Litre) on the Oktoberfest roughly a 7 Euro margin.
Yes that is quite a high markup margin at the Oktoberfest compared to the supermarket. I was at the Oktoberfest in 2005 and 2006 and I wish I was there this year too. Maybe next year, if there is money by then. We have Oktoberfest in various towns around Texas, I guess I'll have to settle for that, but it is nothing like Germany of course.
If it were, it'd be on our radar for sure... :-) Try to come 2010, it'll be the 200th anniversary and they say there's going to be a horse race again (the Oktoberfest used to be a race). Until then, I will raise my stein once in your honor when I go (again) on thursday.
I want to go so bad in the Oktoberfest!!! Ich lerne Deutsch und am Dienstag werde ich über das Oktoberfest einen Vortrag machen. I hope to be in Germany next year!!!
i was at löwenbräu too but outside coze it was packed, that was great craic, we couldn't feel the cold thanks to the beer!!next year, same place but with a tent booking :)!!!
they waited that long because it was the first day. Munich's Major Christian Ude, will always open up the first barrel of beer at 12.00 pm and yell: "O'zapft is!" (english: "it's tapped!"). Then all the tents are allowed to serve beer on the Oktoberfest :)
Fun video. Thanks for sharing. I was there in 1990. You guys look like you're having a great time.
