@TheEnglishFlower64 Yup. A trial run for a network to get the thumbs up for an investment to start the actual show and put it on the telly. The pilot just shows off the main idea of where the show will go, it's plot, the characters, ect. That's why most of them are unaired and just featured somewhere on the DVD collection.

Oh! Nevermind. This is a pilot, a trial episode, so obviously some of the scenes are different. Sherlock is a bit more human in this version, I kind of like it, though I can see why they went with the smartly edited, cold and calculating approach.

@cecita26oc This is the pilot, not the first episode. The BBC wanted a pilot first. When the pilot got good reviews Moffat and Gatiss were okay-ed for the entire series. Networks don't want to invest in something that will tank, so they ask for pilots first to see what the writers and producers have in mind, before choosing to commission (or not) the eventual series.

It's a really good thing they redid Episode 1. This pilot has more of a sitcom feel to it. Sherlock looks more Hollywood to me.

Ah, so THIS is the unaired pilot. I must admit, I do like this one, but the way they designed 221B when they re-shot it does make it look better. The actors are great in anything, to be honest. I do like Benedict's shirt in the scene where he asks John to send a text :) I approve.

The direction in the pilot was draggy and Sherlock's attitude wasn't nearly as arrogant as he was when they reshot this as a 90 minute version with a new director and DP. Made such a difference.

I personally haven't seen their first pilot so I don't know how much is different (plot/acting wise).

These are the only scenes I've seen but yeah - Sherlock seems nicer or I don't know, more considerate. He certainly smiled more and he actually said 'please'.

Comparing this to the official episode there's just this weird cheap haze over it. Not that that's bad; I just appreciate their newer polished episode :)

I think that the reason why they didn't air this episode and made loads of changes, was because, to me, Sherlock was a little bit nicer and more human. I LOVE his face in the taxi when John gives him a compliment :D :D
