Hi.. That is REALLY nice!. I am just learning claw hammer style on a regular open back. I played cello a long time ago, all through school. This has me convinced I want one of these! Thanks!
Awesome! Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing. It's clear that you are passionate about banjos... and your enthusiasm is contagious. You got me wanting a banjo now more than ever. I play guitar and I was wondering if you could recommend a banjo for a complete and total beginner (model, make and all that)? Please? I'd appreciate your help. Awesome.
@Thunderybeans Thanks for your comment. I'm not familiar enough with banjo models to make a recommendation for beginners. However, if you ask your question at the Banjo Hangout you'll get plenty of help.
I enjoyed meeting a new instrument, and seeing/hearing your playing, and you've got a great manner with it all too. If you're not already a teacher you should be. Enjoy your new acquisition, and long may the pot resound!
Cathy, this was great! My new CEB-5 will arrive in a couple of days (yay!)and your description of how you're approaching playing it was really helpful.
On the one I built, I ended up putting a small rag under the head, near the bridge. Enough to kill some of the echoy roundness, but not enough to kill the sustain or change the basic tone.
Its good to see the cello banjo on the rise. I love the sound.
Thanks for your feedback. I agree that the deep, dark sound of the cello has been missing for too long from the banjo mainstream. After I recorded the video, Paul Roberts suggested I tighten the head even more, which brightened up the first string and clarified things overall.
anyone else think of les claypools bass playing

@DominoDylan
I heard this tune referred to once as "Dick's Pig". I think that was in a book of Irish Mandolin tunes so maybe try that?
Lovin' this instrument BTW!

is this still clawhammer?
krimskrams 2 years ago
Yes, it's still clawhammer. You can use clawhammer technique on any size 5-string banjo, and some people use it on guitar and uke as well.

That is the coolest thing I have ever seen. I absolutely have to get one now lol.
