It took over 2 years to film and produce, making it the second longest production timeframe in the US. Plus, Avatar was the first movie EVER to use the new 3D technology, which proved to pose many major difficulties during filming. Taking into account how difficult this dang thing was to film, it's a miracle this movie was even made.

There is 100 movies with the same story but everyone of them tells it in a different way. I mean the Avatar story is pretty original in its own way and the graphics and the 3d makes it that much better. When the movie ended I had the feeling like I was on Pandora and now I have to leave. This is the first movie in my life that has done that to me. Bravo James Cameron!!!

Actually, the story is the same as a LOT of movies. Titantic was a very similar story, as is Romeo and Juliet and a hundred other movies which have the same basic story but only the circumstances change. That doesn't make the film any less well done or worth watching. The point is to enjoy it.
