Many aussies are born with bobbed tails. This is due to the fact that breeders through the years breed them for bobbed tails so they would not interfer with herding. Some are still born with tails however. Cute puppies. :)
I have an Australian/German Shepherd mixed dog. He has the cropped tail, the ears and body of the Aussie. His fur and coloring is that of the German Shepherd. He does have a white patch of fur on his chest. These pups are adorable.
I'm in the mood for remembrances so I came back to see how adorable Loca was at the age of couple weeks. Well, to be honest she's even more adorable nowadays :)
is this kennel in poland - if so, there standards differ than the american. I have an american aussie and would like my next aussie to have a tail - I just like the look of the tails that i have seen on aussies and will never work the dog beyond a hard days work chasing a tennis ball or frisbee
I like the tails docked! If you call them Aussies, that is breed standard, not only that but the reasoning is for a ranch working dog, it is for their own safety! I looked info the "cruelty" of this myself before i got an aussie, and it is safe as can be...if you have a reputable breeder..that makes the difference. cute puppies regardless
Oh! FINALLY!! I found a breeder who doesnt dock their pups' tails! I am so happy! Our soon-to-be Aussie's mom was bred yesterday, and I requested that she not dock our puppy's tail when he or she is born :D I am looking to get either a red merle or a black tri female, but if I get a red merle or black tri male I'll be happy too :D
BRAVO, aquilonis!!! Here come all the lunatics with their agenda for the Aussies we love, pushing animal cosmetic surgery, criticising beauty for the sake of being superior, and exuding a potent kind of snobbery, and espousing a distorted perfectionism that dooms a healthy breed of happy dogs to inbreeding for appearance and the profit of those who must have control--even of puppies. Beautiful pups you have. How does praise get perverted into negativity?
i have an australian sheperd her name is aggie. she isnt like this type those are mixed aggie is pure bred (short, shubby, tater tot tail) lol my lil' aggie waggie baby girl :)
I wont dock them. It's a stupidity if you don;t intend to use them for professional herding. So, no offence, but their tails are not a problem at all.
these aussies are cute like all aussies. But the problem is there tails.I no alot about aussies because i have books about them and i have 2.i would recomend to start docking there tail when they are still very little.some people dock them when they are only a day old.so please recomend this.
If you dont want to put them in shows or fancy stuff like that then you dont have to dock them but they would not cost as much and they are not tottaly purebreds.and im saying i no alot about them cause i have 2 and i hae books about them.
"I have books about them" so what? I have books about sailing. Does it make me an expert in sailing?
"I have 2" I have 4
"If you don't want to put them in shows" actually in Europe it's forbidden to dock tails so it would be illegal in many countries to show them like that.
"they are not tottaly purebreds" Oh yes, they are. Their father is ARES of Secret Key (after WAR DRUM of Imagineer) and their mother is Gearhart's FIRE OVER PACIFIC (Mistrettas and Gearharts). Eyes and hips clear, Pedigree etc.
I think that they look ridiculous with tails otherwise that was a nice looking litter. I note that your black tri has no tail. Perhaps you are in Europe where many countries do not allow the docking of tails. These are working dogs and for the type of work that they were developed to do, tails were/are a liability.
cute pups for sure. i have been looking into getting an aussie for a year or two now. thinking it is time now to find the right puppy for me, do you have any recemendations on a way to find a good pup in southern ca?..

To dock the tail to australian shepherd is an crime against this breed, I am totally in opposition to this practice.

To be clear, if it is a true australian shepherd it will be born with a naturally bobbed tail and as they get older their fur covers it up completly

isn't a real reason for docking tails! Beautiful Puppies!

i want an aussi i have beed looking but i don't really like that people have docked their taild what the point of that anyway
karaLUVEanime 3 years ago
1. To avoid tail damage, Aussies were bred to be working/herding dogs. The obvious logic, No Tail = No Tail Damage
2. Higene, Aussies have a very thick coat, and feathers around their butt area, they have high chances of getting feces on them.
3. To maintain breed standards
Margieline 3 years ago 2
SO even if it's a faimly pet you should cut the tail off?
Aggiesgigem 3 years ago
Yes, it makes them cleaner and look like an aussie. but should be done when a day to two days old.
birdjizz 3 years ago

you gotta do that if you want to show them.
Pl0wned 3 years ago
In Australia an Aussie can be shown with a tail of any length, due to the fact that it is now illegal to dock them.

cute definition of pure bred ;)
I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be mean. I just know the FCI definition of australian shepherds. And I have all the documents confirming that.

those are NOT pure bred. Sorry.
They are adorable, yes. Pure bred.. no.
It has nothing to do with their tails. It's their coloring and pattern that are off. I like it though. They are cute.

Wait, whats the purpose of docking a tail if not , as aquilonis said, used as a purebred or for actual herding?
I have a book about space, does that make me a NASA Scientist?
