dog fighting is mostly dependent on the pilot my squdren of F/A-18 E's were all shot down in 20 min. by topgun pilots flying F-5 tiger sharks. (dog fighting training)
Where do people get into these dog fights and when. I don't know if they had this during the cold war but I doubt it. How did this guy get into this situation? Last time I checked we weren't at war with any country with fighter jets currently. Someone help.

Try that with a better trained pilot in an updated mig, the result would be different.

I really have not seen any special maneuvers from the raptor, mostly it is its powerful engines, not some OVT action. F22 is great in horizon fighting, there it has the advantage, but even then it needs to operate the radar and it gives away the position!
@killroy3959 tws or threat waring systems at least in f-16s detects radar and uses its identification system to give the pilot an idea what aircraft of sam is being detected. if a f-22 really has an undetectable radar it will be able to lock onto a target without that targets tws going off

@deckire the a10 is def a ground attack but it can carry aim 9 missles that gives it a chance in a close in dog fight plus the a10 can turn up its own ass so to speack si IF they can get in close the a10 is a deadly plane to other aircraft. but its best not to get in to that situation in the first place ;)

In the US, the Mig 29 is nothing new. Hell, we own a squadorn of them! Also in the US, a SU 27 can be bought in the private sector. People making the claim that the F22 is less capable are wrong. The Super Hornet and others have the updated capibility to deal with all the "new" Russian based fighters. But in truth, in a mission in saudi arabia or somewhere around the middle east, 4 F-15s fought against 4 Mig 33 Foxhounds and 4 Mig 29 Fulcrums. No F-15s were destroyed, 2 Mig 33 disangage from battle as the other two were shot down, and 3 Mig 29s were shot down except for one which accidently didn't check its altitude on it's hard turn and hit the ground.

However in that particular conflict the americans also had better pilots, awacs, strategies and all that good stuff so that helps alot. But i don't doubt the f-15 beats the MiG29 1v1 since the mig is made to be cheap and counter f16's. the F-18 is a Multirole fighter, the Mig-29 is a Air superiority figher, the F-18 is designed to be able to take out high value targets from ammo dumps to fuel stations and still be able to shoot down a Enemy cargo jet, the Mig-29 is designed to fight other fighters like the F-15 and F-22,
And the F-15 can climb higher, turn faster, go longer and kill more ;)

@Mattc23q not from the footage I've seen, one thing is to brag, the other to prove, even the experts agree nobody currently can win any show on maneuverability other that the Suhkoi or the Mig OVT.
I really have not seen any special maneuvers from the raptor, mostly it is its powerful engines, not some OVT action. F22 is great in horizon fighting, there it has the advantage, but even then it needs to operate the radar and it gives away the position!

In the US, the Mig 29 is nothing new. Hell, we own a squadorn of them! Also in the US, a SU 27 can be bought in the private sector. People making the claim that the F22 is less capable are wrong. The Super Hornet and others have the updated capibility to deal with all the "new" Russian based fighters. Don't forget we also have the F15C,D,etc. As for the vectored thrust and cannards of the SU35, we let the missle do the work. AIM9x. Whats new to you is old to US!!

The true king of the sky was the F-15, as it never been shot down in any sortie, and has gain air superiority many times, even when it was up against the more maneuverable jets like Su-27 or Mig-29.

@00je00 not sure of the Su-27, I believe they never fought against the them. So scratch that one out, my mistake. But in truth, in a mission in saudi arabia or somewhere around the middle east, 4 F-15s fought against 4 Mig 33 Foxhounds and 4 Mig 29 Fulcrums. No F-15s were destroyed, 2 Mig 33 disangage from battle as the other two were shot down, and 3 Mig 29s were shot down except for one which accidently didn't check its altitude on it's hard turn and hit the ground.

However in that particular conflict the americans also had better pilots, awacs, strategies and all that good stuff so that helps alot. But i don't doubt the f-15 beats the MiG29 1v1 since the mig is made to be cheap and counter f16's. Gets more interesting when you put the f15 vs the su27 tho, and i dont think that has ever happened irl.
