@giovanyid thank you for the nice comment about my daughter. Covering them with water would be boiling them which would make the meat stick to the inside of the crab shell. Steaming them is better.
There's a lot of meat... you just need to know how to eat them, I agree with hodges710. I see a lot of people throw away a lot of good meat under the body.
@rollervm King Crab has a larger ratio of meat compared to other types of crab. Also, King Crab sold at the store is already cooked and gutted for storage purposes. King Crab compared to Snow Crab is like comparing salmon to cod in terms of flavor. King Crab meat is the best tasting meat.
No, I decided to to have a house instead after my two story igloo melted down ...we had the abominable snow man over for dinner so I cooked up a lot of crab. Cooking too much crab caused a lot of heat. :)
im so sad that myorignal attempt to move to alaska did not go thru, any suggetions or me on what i could do if i am to move to alaska? I so long to be there. how is the governments policies affecting oyu out there?
It depends on what you want to do... career wise. Living in Alaska is expensive but wages are higher than lower 48. We don't seem to be affected by the U.S. economy crash, though it'll probably reach us in a couple of years. I've notice friends in the lower 48 being laid off or losing jobs and returning/coming to Alaska for work.
Rinsing with cold water, because the crab is hot when it comes out of the pot, I'm kinda sorta blanching it so the crab meat doesn't stick to the shell, this is so when the legs are broken at the joints the meat comes out in one piece. The crab also has to be really fresh (alive) when cooking. And no, no flavor is washed away. The crabs were steamed... where as I believe boiling takes away flavor and also is a huge factor to crab sticking to shell.
Yes, these are real Alaskan King Crab, I should know, I live here, and I'm the one that caught them! And yes, thank you, my wife and daughter ARE very beautiful, thank you for noticing... We caught them with about 3' round crab pots through ice that was almost 4 feet thick. A lot of work, but well worth it! We would pull in about 1-2 dozen keepers every few days, and on the last day we caught one that is easily twice as big as anything you see here on the video. It was a monster!
Nome is a small town, so for privacy sake I'm not going to post where we work. We both have good paying professional jobs. Nome is a gold mining town and with gold prices going up we get a lot of visitors during the summer either working for the local gold mining company or panning for gold out on the beach.
Yea, i have seen other videos of Nome and saw how small it was. I always thought it would be an adventure not to just live in small town, but to live in one in Alaska. Is it easy to get on with the gold mining companies?
Ok.. I am jealous of this man.His wife and his daughter are both beautiful. Best of all, his wife is a crab queen. Those are indeed kings, a smaller species common in Alaska, If you have been there you would know, but you have not. Safeway sells what they import and that's it. You wouldn't know. I know the crabs they are using and believe me, they are way tasty.
i think u guys are really lucky to buy live king crab over here where i live it is already cooked and it must cost a little bit cheaper

Ahhhh, so beautiful that girl. And by the way the pot has to little water, that is a slow death. You should cover them all with water.

Is a stove often common in Alaska?
Chouldentfindanygood 3 years ago
Haha let me rephrase that.
Do a stove in the state of Alaska often use gas instead of electricity or is it the other way around?
Chouldentfindanygood 3 years ago
I think it's about equal depends on personal preferences. No natural gas this far north we use propane.
