@gravedigr12 Thanks I will...are you being funny? lol ...I am Jeff MacKay of Captain Jack's Pirate Hats, as well as The Pirate Trading Co. I used to be one of the first Captain Jack Impersonators back in 2003. You can see pix and vids of me around. Type in Captain Jacks pirate hats in the youtube search.
Most of these were used past the age of piracy. Stock some doglocks, Dutch pistols, French and Spanish in order to portray an accurate persona. The golden era of piracy was between 1680-1720 *cir)
@KeiPyn24 You did catch me saying Golden age of Pyracy and yes you are correct, in that respect. Though the majority of pirate reenactors, such as myself, portray pirate personas from more of the 1700-1770 period. And that is who my videos are marketed to. I would have to disagree that the age of piracy was past by 1720. Piracy continued on and flourished though the Seven years War and The American Revolution and these weapons were actively used for these purposes during that period.
whowants.... Sorry it took awhile to answer. You can load the blunderbuss either way, you can use premeasured cartridges as the British did with their muskets, or you can pour powder from a powder horn and then a ball with a patch or shot and a wad. Ram, prime cock fire...
I've seen 3 rounds shot within 40 seconds. That was at a range and under perfect conditions. Realistically for boarding ships and ship to ship melees you would only shoot once, and turn the pistol into a clubbing weapon. Or to use as a main gauche or to parry a cutlass attack, so as to open the enemy up for your own blade. If you wanted to shoot more than one round in this type of situation, you would carry more than one loaded pistol. It is said that Blackbeard wore a brace of at least six .
Assuming someone's using pre-measured disposable powder vials and pre-wrapped slugs, theoretically, how fast could someone very well trained with one of these pistols load them?
Great video. And greqat job with the pirate trading co. Its nice that somebody is selling high quality items, as they should be. BTW, i cant seem to find the song used in this video on the score soundtrack that Klaus Badelt worked on.
Thanks. We're glad you enjoy our video's, our site and our products. The Musical Piece is called "Skull and Crossbones" and is on Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl" soundtrack.
Funny you should ask, I actually mis-spoke on the Germanic Dragoon. That baby is actually just over 22" long (not 19"). In comparison the British Heavy Dragoon Pistol which is 19"
Oh, wow! Excellent! I plan to purchase the British Dragoon in the near future. I'm not a very big guy, though, so I may want to get one of the smaller pistols.
I love all things pirate and truely believe I was one in a past life. Glad I stumbled across your channel

I got a question, when you hang your flintlock in your chestbelt, is it still ready to go, so no reloading because all of the powder fell out?
firebirdcas 1 year ago
@firebirdcas Not if the frizzen rests tight to the pan, the powder shouldn't fall out.
PirateTradingCo 1 year ago
@firebirdcas the "chestbelt" is called a Baldric
