that's what happened with mine twice:
they broke when I wanted them off my head, and I stretched them too far.
both times they broke on the same spot, just above the metal on the inside above where you can adjust them.

you are very careful and overcautious with these headphones that's why they are good for you
but i would rather have headphones that can be tossed around just in case you get that one accidental drop. u kno?
