I bet all of you out there who do drills in training are not top swimmers? Drills are simply an excuse for not doing hard work. It's an easy option. Any swimmer will tell you this. Get real!!
@Veronique000Cadora You're funny. So you don't agree with this? Fine. But i.o. coming with an argument, you decided making fun of millions of people who do agree that drills are important, is the way to get your point across. Makes you look like a 14 year old punk who think he knows it all.
high elbow recovery doesn't offer any advantage besides making the stroke more beautiful, what is really important is mantaining high elbow during the pulling phase...underwater...
i dont mean to sound sarcastic, im just really curious. whats the point of those drills? cuz u dont really swim like that. how does that improve your stroke? please respond, im curious! ^_^
well thats what my coach called it..freestyle but you leave one hand extended, and the other hand does the stroke and with the extended hand you keep it extended till the hand which did the stroke extends then you do the stroke with the hand that was extended first...get it? you basically do freestyle really slow and it helps you work on your technique
@HitmonTee iunno but i think our coach said that to make it more interesting because we had different groups age ranging from 7-18, but name means nothing really =] just how the exercise is done
It breaks your stroke into "segments" to help you to pay more atention to certains aspects of the stroke...when you master one dill, you will insert the correct tecnique in your full stroke automatically..
Generally what they teach is for you to exhale as you swim and come up for the breath. This allows maximum air to be taken on on your breath as you don't waste time breathing out. Also try to train your lungs, i.e 2 lenghts breathe every second stroke, increase that to every third stroke, fourth, and then work your way back down. You'll find what works for you! I'm liking every fourth stroke right now, but sometimes 2nd or 6th works :D
The music was dope!!!

when you lift your elbow up the sky you don't contract your forearm. This way you don't get easily tired

@GMZTORP I agree

yup I did both of these drills almost daily when I was on my high school D1 swim team

Yep these are brilliant :) Going to have to try these tomorrow!
Also try touching your shoulder and then your head before your pull. Helps to stretch out the stroke too. Similar to the shark-fin in timing.

I also have the same problem. Smoothswim talks about the Breath, buble, buble, and breath technique but I find it hard to follow.

maby you need to roll more over..and if you breath on the left side then you exhale hard under water whit your nose when you pull whit the left arm
